Hello and Welcome to our
Autumn Newsletter.
I can hardly believe after such
a glorious summer that we are
now in the process of arranging
Christmas celebrations.
Those of you that visit Marriott’s
regularly will notice that our ongoing renovations
are still marching on, we have had new windows
and doors fitted along the main corridor, and it
has all been redecorated in preparation for the
new carpet to be laid throughout the ground
floor communal areas. This will be a welcome
addition to compliment the work that has been
completed in the dining room.
I hope you will also join me in welcoming Marie
Forrester who is my new deputy, Information
about Marie and many other articles can be
found inside….
Please enjoy!

Her role at Marriott House & Lodge is to support the General Manager Theresa, and to ensure
the high quality nursing care that our residents receive is maintained.
The well-being of our residents is extremely important to her and for them to feel happy and safe here at Marriott’s, as this is their home, will always be her priority. We also Welcome Sindhu and Lydia , registered nurses and Conor who is
working in our Kitchens to our Marriott’s Family, we wish them all the success and look forward to getting to know them well in the coming months.
PROMOTIONS In other news we are delighted to announce
promotion within the Marriott’s team, Beckie Napier-Raikes joined the company 6 months ago as a hostess in Marriott Lodge. She quickly developed
excellent relationships with the residents in the lodge and we recognised that she had more to offer,
so Beckie is our new Activity Coordinator in the lodge and she is over the moon. This does mean that Justine has also moved on, Justine has been
promoted to Head of Activities and Marketing, and is working with Beckie and Kim in the house
ensuring that all residents have a great time here at Marriott House and Lodge.

Summer Fete On Saturday 6th September we held our
Annual Summer Fete. This year we decided to
have a 1940s theme.
We were blessed with the weather and
entertained by Becki Short who sang all the
1940’s hits and came dressed as an American
service woman.
The afternoon was very well attended and
we raised over £775.00, which will be used to
finish a wheelchair access vegetable garden.
CHARITY EVENTS We are always keen to be involved in Charity Events. Over the summer we are sure you were aware of the ‘Ice Bucket Challenge’ to raise money for the Motor Neurons Disease charity. We never to do anything by halves at Marriott House and Lodge so Staff decided to take part in a huge Ice Bucket Challenge and raised over £40 for the cause.
In September we once again participated in the Annual Macmillan Coffee morning. residents, relatives and visitors joined us for a morning or fundraising, we raised over £75.00 for Macmillan.
Thank you to everyone that supported us with these events.

Centenarians glam it up for David Bailey
photo shoot
Stylish centenarian, Emily, 103, lives at
Barchester’s Cheverton Lodge Care Home. Emily
and her sister, Edith, 106, were delighted when
they heard they had been invited to be
photographed by David Bailey, the famous
fashion and portrait photographer.
They spent a day at his studio, posing for the
photos and talking to a journalist about their lives.
The pictures were used in a Guardian Weekend
piece celebrating nine amazing centenarians.
CHARLIE DIMMOCK TO UNEARTH
GREAT CARE HOME GARDENERS
Care homes across the UK are waiting eagerly to
hear who is the cream of the crop of this year’s
Barchester in Bloom competition.
There are so many talented gardeners living and
working at Barchester homes across the country
and the competition rewards the best of the best in
six different categories.
This year's winners will be announced at an awards
ceremony on 6th November in Birmingham. The
day will be hosted by celebrity gardener, Charlie
Dimmock.
Your Care Rating survey
Thank you to everyone who took the time to
assist in the completion of the Your Care Rating
survey, which helps Barchester assess the quality
of its services.
Look out for the Relatives’ Survey, which goes
live this autumn and gives relatives of residents
the chance to let us know what we are doing well
and where we could make improvements.
John Sergeant to host Older People in
the Media Awards 2014
Independent Age and Barchester Healthcare are
thrilled to announce that renowned journalist
and broadcaster, John Sergeant, will be hosting
this year’s Older People in the Media Awards.
The awards are to be held on the 13th November
in London. They seek to shine a light on
coverage which has either positively portrayed
older people or sensitively highlighted the
issues they face.
John Sergeant, said of the awards: “Older
people are not a homogenous group, and no
one, including the media, should make
assumptions about them based solely on their
age.
“I am proud to be a part of this year’s Media
Awards, which recognise those in the media
who are working so hard to highlight just how
astonishing older people can be, and who,
through their work, are recognising the
importance of the issues they face.”
