Children’s Church application questions: Daniel 6:1-23 1. Share about a time you felt alone and afraid? 2. Read Proverbs 3:5, what does it mean to “trust in the Lord with all your heart?” Home Communities What is a Home Community (HC)? A Home Community is a base of operations and support group, like a family, to serve with you and pray for you as you become missionaries to your various oikos networks. Why the Book of Acts? Acts is called “Acts of the Apostles” or “Acts of the Holy Spirit” because it describes what the leaders of the early Church did in concert with the Holy Spirit to spread the Gospel and make disciple-makers through- out the Mediterranean world. Our desire is that the book of Acts will inspire you to live the gospel together with other Christians who live near you in a HC. Read Acts 17:10-15 – 1. Observation: what stands out to you in this passage and why? 2. Interpretation: what does it mean that the Bereans “received the word with all eagerness, examining the Scriptures daily to see if these things were so”? (see v. 11) 3. Application: Describe what it looks like, in your life, when you receive the word with eagerness and examined the Scriptures to see if the sermon was so. Have you had this experience? What was happening in your life? Do you remember the passage or what was happening in your life at the time? 4. So What!?! Who cares? The purpose of this statement is to motivate us to become like the Bereans and dive into the word. Prepare our hearts for Sunday so that we are desperate for God’s word. And then follow up in the word so God can speak to you...to us. The Bereans: Acts 17:10 The brothers immediately sent Paul and Silas away by night to Berea, and when they arrived they went into the Jewish synagogue. 11 Now these Jews were more noble than those in Thessalonica; they received the word with all eagerness, examining the Scriptures daily to see if these things were so. 12 Many of them therefore believed, with not a few Greek women of high standing as well as men. 13 But when the Jews from Thessalonica learned that the word of God was proclaimed by Paul at Berea also, they came there too, agitating and stirring up the crowds. 14 Then the brothers immediately sent Paul off on his way to the sea, but Silas and Timothy remained there. 15 Those who conducted Paul brought him as far as Athens, and after receiving a command for Silas and Timothy to come to him as soon as possible, they departed. What is a Home Community (HC)? A Home Community is a base of operations and support group, like a family, to serve with you and pray for you as you become missionaries to your various oikos networks. Why the Book of Acts? Acts is called “Acts of the Apostles” or “Acts of the Holy Spirit” because it describes what the leaders of the early Church did in concert with the Holy Spirit to spread the Gospel and make disciple-makers through-out the Mediterranean world. Our desire is that the book of Acts will inspire you to live the gospel together with other Christians who live near you in a HC.

Read Acts 17:10-15 –

1. Observation: what stands out to you in this passage and why? 2. Interpretation: what does it mean that the Bereans “received the word

with all eagerness, examining the Scriptures daily to see if these things were so”? (see v. 11)

The Bereans:

Acts 17:10 The brothers immediately sent Paul and Silas away by night to Berea,

and when they arrived they went into the Jewish synagogue.11 Now these

Jews were more noble than those in Thessalonica; they received the word

with all eagerness, examining the Scriptures daily to see if these things

were so. 12 Many of them therefore believed, with not a few Greek women

of high standing as well as men. 13 But when the Jews from Thessalonica

learned that the word of God was proclaimed by Paul at Berea also, they

came there too, agitating and stirring up the crowds. 14 Then the brothers

immediately sent Paul off on his way to the sea, but Silas and Timothy

remained there. 15 Those who conducted Paul brought him as far as

Athens, and after receiving a command for Silas and Timothy to come to

him as soon as possible, they departed.

CHILDREN’S MINISTRY UPDATE We have made a few changes heading

into the Fall that we want you to be

aware of. We have promoted Victoria

Scott from Children’s Admin. Assistant

to Children’s Administrator. We will be

using AWANA curriculum for both

Sunday morning Children’s Church and

Sunday evening AWANA Youth DNA.

Victoria will be working hard to recruit

and prepare for AWANA on Sunday

nights and Sunday morning Children’s

Education between now and the Fall

Kick-off on Sept 17. We need

volunteers, so let her know if you are

interested in helping out or if you have

any questions.

JR HIGH UPDATE Our Youth Pastor Lucas Fennell is

excited about ministry in the Fall. As a

reminder, 6th -12th grade Youth Group

is now combined on Sunday, 6:30-8pm

for the Summer. Starting Sept 17, the

Middle School will have their own

Youth Group time during AWANA

Youth DNA from 5:30-7:00pm in the

Crowded House.

SR HIGH UPDATE High Schoolers, Pastor Lucas needs

your help. During AWANA Youth DNA,

he needs you to assist with the younger

kids. This is a great opportunity for you

to take what you have learned and help

invest in the next generation. Then,

every Sunday (beginning Sept 17), after

AWANA Youth DNA, Sr High ONLY

Youth Group will meet around 7pm in

the Crowded House. Questions?

Connect with Victoria or Pastor Lucas.
