Colin Denham 8 May 1933 to 24 October 2017 Please accept my sincere thanks for the loving messages and support so many people in Corscombe have given me during the long illness Colin suffered and since his death. It seems he will be missed by many people.

The ‘Celebration of his Life’ was well attended; there were approximately 125 people at Higher Ground Meadow. The Rev. Daniel Ingles took the service, reading memories of Colin from his three children and me. Jo, from Higher Ground, Stoodley Funerals, the Rev. Daniel and our friend Darren (who read verses); all contributed to make it a very special event. Howard Goringe played melodeon with Henry Lovegrove on violin. Christopher Denham provided lovely photographs relayed onto a screen.

The love and support I received from Marie Curie nurses, Reablement carers, Weldmar Hospice and Bridport Hospital was second to none. People at the service donated money for Marie Curie, and Weldmar Hospice. People can still donate and cheques can be sent to Stoodley Funerals, Crewkerne , Marie Curie or Weldmar Hospice - in memory of Colin - or given to me at ‘Lindisfarne’.

Thank you to everyone including The Fox Inn for putting on a good spread of food and drink for the guests.

Stamps for Weldmar Hospice Care Trust [Joseph Weld] our local hospice in Dorchester. Thank you to everyone who has given their used stamps this past year; many more than usual. Please remember to keep them coming. There is a plastic bag pinned on wall inside the paper shed, or drop off at Lower Farm (they may be left in the letter box or the porch.) It is helpful if they are trimmed leaving a small margin of 1-2cms, otherwise I will do it before I deliver them . Thank you

Sallie Else St Mary's Corscombe Harvest Supper 2017

The Village Harvest Supper was celebrated in the traditional way with prayers, food, and Dorset folk songs - including community singing. Thank you everyone who came and especially to our new village residents and from our friends who joined us from neighbouring villages. Thank you also to those who gave their time and talent in helping to make the Harvest Supper such a wonderful evening.

Fete de la Soupe Success

A huge thank you to everyone from First Responders for organising the fete de la Soupe in October, particularly Jan and Geoff Williams for the idea and initiative. It was a very jolly evening . 16 different soups had been created and all the ones I tasted were delicious. No need for any further supper that night! The live music in a decorated hall really added to the atmosphere, as did the bar.. The soups were professionally judged by Mandy Craddock, Susie Turaga and Jan Williams. The winner in that category was Penny Whittingham with her Moroccan soup, with Lesley Chapman runner up with her carrot and Coriander soup. The "people's vote " went to Deb Childs for the Spinach Pea and Mint soup with Heather Starkings as runner up for Celeriac, Celery and Lovage soup. I hope the evening will be repeated in the future. It raised £250 For First Responders, and was a great opportunity to thank and support the team.

Barbara Darnley Corscombe & Halstock Community First Responders Thank you to all who supported our Fete de la Soupe evening. Thank you to our lovely soup makers: Heather and Brian Starkings, Lesley Chapman, Jane Allen, Dot and Charles Gaskell, Claire and Chris Higdon, Jenny Thorne, Liz and Mike North, Deborah Childs, Liz and Paul Rendell, Julie

First Aid Top of the month:

Asthma Attack • Sit the person down in an upright position and re-

assure the person so they stay calm • Get the person to take one puff of their inhaler

(usually blue) and repeat at 30 to 60 second intervals, up to a maximum of 10 puffs

• If the person feels worse at any point or does not feel better after 10 puffs, call 999 for an ambulance

• If the ambulance is taking longer than 15 minutes, then suggest further use of the inhaler, with one puff every 30-60 seconds, up to a maximum of 10 puffs

• If the person has an inhaler that is not blue, or has a written asthma action plan, then use this plan to advise the patient. If you are unsure, then call 999 for advice and/or to call an ambulance

Recruitment

We are a small team of 8 active responders. We work together so no individual responder is over-committed. We would like more volunteers to join us. Training is provided by the South West Ambulance Service, and we are fully supported by them. Why not consider finding out more? Call Dick Thorne on 01935 891847 or Chris Chapman on 01935 891015 for an informal chat without obligation.

Bridport News Reporter for Corscombe I have been sending weekly Corscombe News for The Community page of The Bridport News for a few years.

Is there anyone who would like to take this on? I am no longer able to take part fully in Village events and not receiving news from anyone.

I was allowed 400 words and enjoyed very much putting Corscombe on the map, and attracting not only Corscombe people, but also people from further afield to our Village. I can assist anyone that is interested.

"Think of England". The war office have employed Bette and Vera to travel the country hosting tea dances to boost morale in rural communities and RAF personnel. But how will the locals react when they discover the women's real purpose : to send the young men off to fight having experienced all of life's pleasures? Join the ladies at your local hall for an unforgettable dance, a rousing song and real-life, wartime scandal that threatens to destroy the women's lives, shame your community and tear apart one already splintered RAF crew. Can you save the night?

The show was commissioned by Live and Local Touring in the midlands, and developed specifically for rural village halls. Suitable 12+ with adults, sexual references and mild swearing.
