FIBRE COMPOSITION REGULATIONS
Please reference - Regulation (EU) No 1007/2011 – fibre names labelling and the marking of the
fibre composition of textile products
All bulk fabrics must be tested for fibre composition at a UKAS accredited 3rd party lab. For
continuity products, this test must be repeated at least once per year.
Fibre composition of blended fabrics MUST, BY UK LAW:
a. be listed with the highest percentage first and then in order according to next highest
percentage and so on e.g. 60% Cotton is listed before 25% Viscose which is listed before
15% Polyester.
60% Cotton
25% Viscose
15% Polyester
b. The total percentage of all fibres listed must always add up to 100%.
c. Always use whole rounded numbers. E.g. 60% not 59.5%.
Only legally recognized fibre definitions are permitted for use when stating the fibre composition
on the care label. See page 12-13 for textile generic name guideline details.
