A brand new event in 2015, Career Quest will be an industry exploration day for students in the Kent ISD. As collaboration with Michigan Works!, the event will feature four industries – one being construction – for students to interact with and learn about. The HBAGGR will be working as part of the Construction Workforce Development Alliance (CWDA) to feature the construction industry and the opportunities in our industry, in a big way.

Seeking members to construct exhibits showcasing the industry, seeking volunteers to support the event, and seeking sponsors to underwrite our industry feature.

PARADE OF HOMESSpring and Fall 2015

The Parade of Homes is a unique marketing program centered around the annual new and remodeled homes showcase event. HBAGGR builder members showcase their craftsmanship while promoting future home sales. It is also a unique venue for member suppliers to present their products and services to nearly 200,000 visitors. The Spring Parade begins May 28 - June 6 and the Fall Parade runs October 2 - 17.

Within the event there are various partnership opportunities including Signature Event Sponsor, Map, Guide, and Ticket Sponsor.

ARCHITECTURAL HOMES TOURAugust 2015

A boutique home tour, the Architectural Home Tour will be a two day showcase of homes in the Greater Grand Rapids area, featuring a variety of exceptional design from Grand Rapids’ local designers, architects and builders.

Homes on the tour will be chosen by a selection committee, and will be chosen based on features and unique characteristics, with preference given to new and newly renovated homes.

CONTINUING EDUCATION

One of the many reasons our members belong to the HBAGGR is to keep up with the latest in the building industry.

We conduct year round education programs designed to keep our members informed about the latest in safety, technology, legal and building code issues as well as industry specific topis (i.e. Green Building, remodeling etc.) Members earn continuing education credits by attending these courses.

BUILDER LICENSING COURSES

Both in-classroom and online, the HBA partners with key educators to deliver some of the best pre-license courses in the area. Those looking to obtain their Michigan Residential Builders License can choose to either take the course with a small group offering a one-on-one connection with the instructor; or take advantage of the convenience of the online course.

Nationally recognized curriculum, right here in your backyard! NAHB’s University of Housing offers many designation programs to help you improve your skills and advance your career. NEXT GENERATION PARTNERSHIPS

CONSTRUCTION WORKFORCE DEVELOPMENT ALLIANCECWDA was formed by three organizations the Associated Builders and Contractors, Inc. of West Michigan (ABCWM), American Subcontractors Association of Michigan (ASAM), and the Home Builders Association of Greater Grand Rapids (HBAGGR), to encourage talented young people to put their minds and hands to work in the field of construction. The CWDA will; host Career Quest 2015 and other events, develop a digital presence to reach out to students, parents and guidance counselors and educate school counselors on the advantages of a career in construction.

OUTREACH EVENTSThe HBAGGR will take to the road to reach educators, counselors and potential students to tell “the real story of construction”. Visit events such as the Michigan Construction Teachers Association annual conference, events with Grand Rapids Community College, and take advantage of classroom and in-school opportunities. The goal is to help to build the next generation of our home building industry.

Seeking one underwriter and member support. Need members willing to travel and be present at events throughout the year, to share their story and tell “the real story of construction.”

STUDENT CHAPTEREach day, students in construction programs are learning skills to prepare for the exciting opportunities within this industry.

The HBAGGR is seeking to re-establish a local student chapter with either a high-school program, or a 2 or 4 year program. The chapter will be dedicated to enriching students’ educational experience and offers first-hand exposure to the real world of the building industry through membership, educational programming, and networking opportunities.

Seeking underwriters to support the membership dues for up to 25 students in the chapter.

STUDENT COMPETITIONThe NAHB Student Chapters Residential Construction Management Competition (RCMC) is one of the highlights of the annual International Builders’ Show. The competition gives students the opportunity to apply skills learned in the classroom to a real construction company by completing a management project/proposal. The local student chapter submits proposals to a group of construction company executives who act as judges. During the convention, students defend their proposals to the judges in front of an audience.
