Student feedback mechanism on Institutional Governance/faculty performance

With the expansion of the college, the concerns with quality and the growing ‘consumerism’

education there has been a significant growth of, and sophistication in, process designed to

collect views from students.

We collect some type of feedback from students about their experience of education.

‘Feedback’ in this sense refers to the expressed opinions of students about the service they

receive as students. This may include perceptions about the learning and teaching, the

learning support facilities (such as, libraries, computing facilities), the learning environment,

(lecture rooms, laboratories, social space and university buildings), support facilities

(refectories, student accommodation, health facilities, student services) and external

aspects of being a student (such as finance, transport infrastructure).

Student views are usually collected in form of ‘Student’ feedback. Sometimes there are

specific attempts to obtain student views on how to improve specific aspects of provision or

on their views about potential or intended future developments but this is less usual.

It is not always clear how views collected from students fit into institutional quality

improvement policies and processes. To be effective in quality improvement, data collected

from surveys and peer reviews are transformed into information that is used within our

institution to have effect change.

To make an effective contribution to internal improvement processes, the views of students

are integrated into a regular and continuous cycle of analysis, reporting, action and

feedback (figure 1)

Grievance redressal mechanism for faculty, staff and students

A committee is responsible for handling, management and redressal of all the genuine

grievances of both faculties and students. The aggrieved student or faculty shall represent

his/ her grievances in person. The faculties and students have the complete rights to

register their complaints/grievances. The students and faculties grievances are collected

from the sources of feedback. The suggestion boxes are kept in the appropriate places to

post the complaints/grievances which can be utilized by them.

A structured system is laid down to meet the college’s redressal mechanism to be more

meaningful and effective. The system ensures that the redressal sought is handled in just

and fair manner and is enabled through a set of framework of rules and regulations.
