Dear friends of God,
The other day I participated in an afternoon
meditation and reflection supported by the World
Community for Christian Meditation. It was
sponsored by a meditation center in London,
England and led by a monk in France. And I was
participating in Pinconning. It reminded me that our
world is quite small and that we are not alone in
these challenging times. There is an important
unity in our human family and in our common home
that we call the earth. The talk began with the
sharing of what is known as the World Peace
Prayer.
Lead me from death to life,
from falsehood to truth;
lead me from despair to hope,
from fear to trust;
lead me from hate to love,
from war to peace.
Let peace fill our heart,
our world, our universe.
These words are as powerful and significant as
they were when they were first composed
thousands of years ago in the Hindu religion.
These poetic words are now known as the World
Peace Prayer. It speaks to our universal heart. It
gives voice to our human longing for peace. This
prayer has been prayed and sung by many diverse
people in the “tossed salad” that we are as a
human family with the variety of tastes and spices
that make up God’s creation. These words have
been spoken by the holiest of holy people such as
Mother Teresa of Calcutta, in parish churches
around the world, as well as by holy Hindu seekers.
These words have been placed upon the human
heart by God himself. There is a practice around
the world to pray these words at noon. It might be
a good idea to give this a try while we are home
and even beyond this time.
We are in a world that seems fueled by falsehood
when God calls us to truth. There are many on all
sides of our partisan divide who use falsehood to
further divide God’s children from one another.
People of faith will easily see the truth that there is a
dark force in our polarization. God leads us from
falsehood to truth, while Satan thrives on division.
God never abandons us. He is leading us even while
some would distract us from the path of life. The
Good News of Jesus Christ is that Jesus is with us
“…always, until the end of the age” (Matthew 28:20).
This is why we can say with hope that it is our God
that leads us to compassion, love and peace. It is
God who transforms our hearts. It is our Resurrected
God who leads us from death to true life.
This weekend we celebrate the feast of the
Ascension of the Lord. For much of the life of the
Church, this feast was celebrated on a Thursday
around the time of the 40th day of the Easter
Season. A number of years ago, some areas in the
world began to celebrate this day on a Sunday. On
this day, our first reading is from the beginning of the
Acts of the Apostles. In it, we hear the author of Acts
refer to his first writing, the Gospel of Luke. “In the
first book, Theophilus, I dealt with all that Jesus did
and taught until the day he was taken up, after giving
instructions through the holy Spirit to the apostles
whom he had chosen.” The name Theophilus is
translated as “lover of God.” We might say that the
Acts of the Apostles was written for all of us who
desire to be lovers of God, those of us who are so
fond of God and want to model our lives on his Son,
Jesus Christ. We believe that on our journey to God,
Jesus is always with us. Even though he has
ascended to the Father, he is still in our midst leading
the way to the Father.
We will begin to have Masses again soon. Bishop
Gruss will be giving us direction on how this will
happen. It will look a bit different for a time, and we
all need to be patient with one another. Even though
I have been celebrating Mass consistently during
these weeks, it will be very good to once again hear
the responses to the prayers and the Mass.
Let the Church say Amen!
Much love,
HOLY TRINITY NEWS

SPIRITUAL COMMUION During these difficult times when we cannot attend
Mass and receive Christ’s Body and blood, an Act of
Spiritual Communion may give us some consolation.
It might help us to read the scripture
readings for the day and then to pray a
prayer such as this one written by St.
Alphonsus Liguori in the 18th century:
My Jesus, I believe that you
are present in the most Blessed Sacrament. I
love You above all things and I desire to
receive You into my soul. Since I cannot now
receive You sacramentally, come at least
spiritually into my heart. I embrace You as if
You were already there, and unite myself
wholly to You. Never permit me to be
separated from You. Amen.
Together let us walk in the steps of Christ with
compassion, faith, charity and justice.

HONORING OUR GRADUATES!
In honor of our 2020 Graduates, Holy Trinity Youth
Ministry is planning a special online video to recognize
and celebrate their achievements. Traditionally, we
have held a Graduation Mass and still plan for this
special blessing when masses resume. In
the meantime, we want to acknowledge how
proud our parish is by honoring them in a
non-traditional way! We invite members of
the parish that are 8th grade graduates, high
school seniors, and college graduates to be
a part of our online slideshow dedications.
Please submit your full name; up to three (3)
photos (cap and gown encouraged if you
have one); the name of the school or college you're
graduating from; and plans for the future you’d like to
share: college, grad school, etc. to
[email protected] by May 25th. We look
forward to the photos and our ability to honor them, in
this small way, until we can hold our annual Graduation
Mass. Any questions, please contact Melissa Ratajczak
989-326-1181 or Lana Bauer 989-313-7938.
THANK YOU!
Holy Trinity Parish would like to say “THANK YOU”
to all of our parishioners who are sending in their
weekly collection envelopes (by mail or using the
dropbox located by the office door) or are using
the online giving option. Our bills need to be paid
even when our Masses are cancelled. Thank you
again!
In your kindness and prayers please remember the souls of
Thomas Schumann Michael (Mick) Veitengruber
May they enjoy the great blessings of
eternal life.

PROMISE TO PROTECT/PLEDGE TO HEAL
During the past month we have invited people to pray
for the healing of those who have been mistreated by
those in authority, family or friends. Be aware of the
behavior of the people around you, how they act
toward others-not just our youth but also adults.
Continue praying for the abused.
The diocese has a program that all people who
volunteer or work with our youth is required to take.
The VIRTUS Protecting God’s Children for Adults
training sessions are held throughout the diocese
several times during the year. For more information on
the Virtus program, please contact the office 879-2141
or the Office of Child and Youth Protection 989-797-
6669.
On September 14, 2020, Bishop Gruss will celebrate a
Mass of Atonement at the Cathedral of Mary of the
Assumption at 6 p.m. Watch the bulletin for more
information.
STEWARDSHIP MESSAGE
May 24, 2020 Seventh Sunday of Easter (The
Ascension of the Lord) “I pray for them; I pray not
for the world, but for them …” -- John 17:9
Prayer is the foundation of our faith. In the past weeks
and months, we have been reminded of the need for
prayer in bad situations. But, we must remember that
prayer is not always a plea. We must pray for those
who we love and those who we may not. We also must
pray to praise and thank God. We also should pray
that God helps us to recognize the gifts He has given
to us and how we can best use them for His glory.
A MEMORIAL DAY PRAYER
O God,
by whose mercy the faithful
departed find rest,
look kindly on your departed
veterans who gave their lives in
the service of their country,
Grant that through the passion, death, and
resurrection of your Son
they may share in the joy of your heavenly kingdom
and rejoice in you with your saints forever. We ask
this through Christ our Lord.
Common Prayer for the
5th
anniversary of Laudato Si’
Loving God,
Creator of heaven and earth and all that is in them,
You created us in your own image and made us
stewards of all your creation.
You blessed us with the sun, water and bountiful land
So that all might be nourished.
Open our minds and touch our hearts,
So that we may attend to your gift of creation.
Help us to be conscious that our common home
belongs not only to us, but to all of your creatures and
to all future generations, and that it is our responsibility
to preserve it.
May we help each person secure the food and
resources that they need.
Be present to those in need in these trying times,
especially the poorest and those most at risk of being
left behind.
Transform our fear and feelings of isolation into hope
and fraternity so that we may experience a true
conversion of the heart.
Help us to show creative solidarity in addressing the
consequences of this global pandemic,
Make us courageous to embrace the changes that are
needed in search of the common good,
now more than ever may we feel that we are all
interconnected and interdependent,
Enable us to listen and respond to the cry of the earth
and the cry of the poor.
May the present sufferings be the birth pangs of a
more fraternal and sustainable world.
Under the loving gaze of Mary Help of Christians, we
make this prayer through Christ our Lord. Amen.

TEACHING & LEARNING
Our teachers have been diligently teaching both online
and some paper copies. The majority of students are
participating daily and seem to be settling into a
pattern. This is a whole new way of learning. Thank you
for your continued prayers and support during this
unique time, for our students, families and staff.

EDUCATION/FAITH FORMATION Family Talk Time Celebrating Sunday for Catholic Families -
Sara McGinnis Lee Jesus left his followers in the care of
the Holy Spirit. How de we feel in the presence of the
Spirit today?
Living the Word: In their last earthly encounter with
Jesus, we hear that the disciples worshipped, but
they doubted. How could the disciples worship Jesus
and at the same time doubt the truth of his identity?
But Jesus is not concerned with their doubt, just as he
was not concerned with their betrayal in Jerusalem.
He encourages them to make disciples of all nations.
Even when we, like the disciples, doubt and deny and
are imperfect, we are still called to be missionaries of
His Good News.
Images are important reminders of people we love.
That is why we carry photos in wallets, phones or
place them on our dressers or living room walls. The
presence of religious art in the home can be a way of
remembering our relationship to God. Look for
images that speak of your family and display them in
your prayer space or in your children’s rooms.
