Letter to Parishioners
Dear Friends,
This is my final opportunity to contribute to the parish magazine as my internship comes to an end on the 18th June. It only seems like yesterday since I came to Holy Trinity, and just as I feel that I am
beginning to get to know everyone it is time for me to move on.
Andrea and I have really enjoyed the fellowship we have experienced in our time here. Everyone really went out of their way to provide support and encouragement to us from our first day. I feel very privileged to have had my ministry develop with such a supportive and nurturing body of believers. I have been truly humbled by the faith and courage which I have witnessed from many individuals and families facing massive challenges in life. The ability of people to carry on displaying unshakable faith in adverse circumstances has been an inspiration. I feel very fortunate to have been allowed into the lives of people who daily battle with illness and adversity, yet whose concern is not for themselves but for others.
I have witnessed first-hand the deep inner strength, provided by the ‘Spirit’ to believers, who do not live in fear, but possess the ‘Spirit’ spoken of by the Apostle Paul in Romans chapter 8:15. These extraordinary individuals have truly grasped that their present sufferings are not worth comparing with the glory that will be revealed in us (Romans 8:18). This Spirit, so apparent within these
HOLYTRINITYCARRICKFERGUS
4 June2017
individuals is their inheritance guarantee as heirs of the kingdom (Galatians 4). It has been wonderful, yet very moving to see the real faith of believers in action against extreme adversity, yet secure in their assurance that Christ has won the victory forever.
So many people within the body of the church work tirelessly to spread to others the hope we have in the gospel of Christ. Helpers and leaders in all our organisations, within Holy Trinity demonstrate a humble willingness to persevere in their unique ministries to spread the message of the gospel.
It has been tremendous to see so many people keen to share the gospel using whatever talents and skills they possess. I am acutely aware or the many spiritual gifts God has given to the body of believers within Holy trinity. In his wisdom the Holy Spirit has distributed these gifts throughout the members of the church so that we all continue to have to rely on each other. I pray that during the forthcoming Uganda mission the team would go out in the power of the Holy Spirit. It is always encouraging when faith leads to action for the sake of the gospel. Jesus said he will build his church and the gates of hell shall not prevail against it (Matthew 16:18). It is our duty to continue following Jesus in faith and a Joy to see him add to those who are being saved.
I have been very grateful to the Rev. McCann for the freedom he has given me to continue to explore where my various gifts lie. It has been invaluable to draw upon his immense knowledge and experience, not to mention his proof reading skills. Very often ministers and their families can feel isolated and unsupported. Andrea and I feel very blessed by the fellowship, support and advice we have experienced from Alan and Janet. It is our prayer that the church would continue to affirm and support Alan and his family as he continues to provide spiritual leadership within Holy trinity.

As I move into the next stage of ordained ministry, I continue to be totally reliant on your prayers and support. I thank all you for the unique opportunity I have been given and the rich blessings I have received. Like the apostle Paul, it is my hope that you stay firmly rooted in the Grace of our Lord Jesus Christ. Grace is wonderful, or as the clergyman John Newton called it- ‘amazing’. As the reformers realised we cannot do anything to attain it or add to it. Staying focused on this unmerited free gift from Jesus allows us to experience the love of God in a closer, more intimate way than we could ever imagine.
Paul knew and practiced the law prior to his conversion on the Road to Damascus, but he didn’t know the amazing grace Christ could bring to sinners. Once Jesus revealed himself to Paul his focus shifted from legalism, which told him what he had to do and avoid, to the gospel. The gospel emphasised what Jesus had done and accomplished rather than what Paul could achieve through reliance on the law. Paul’s attention moved from himself and his efforts to Jesus. He experienced God in a deeper way than he could ever have imagined. Paul experienced the fellowship of the Holy Spirit as an ever-present reality, providing him with the strength needed to face the harshest of circumstances with deep joy and confidence.
Like Paul in 2 Corinthians 13:14 it is my sincere prayer that the grace of the Lord Jesus Christ, and the love of God, and the fellowship of the Holy Spirit be with you all, forevermore.
Yours in Christ

Thanks to all you have attended the bowls fellowship over the last year. It has been a great year of bowling and craic. This month will be our last until September.
We restart on Thursday 7th September, with our AGM and hopefully a game.
We meet every Thursday evening at 7:30 pm, all are welcome. Age and lack of experience are no barriers, equipment will be supplied along with help and craic. We also give a nice cuppa and a bun, who could ask for more.
See you all in September.
God Bless

Prayer Team Alison Allen, Joan Harvey, Tess Hoey, Helen Hoey, Libby
Todd & Nicky Quigg
The prayer team no longer meet on Thursday nights for intercessory prayer but are now meeting instead each Sunday morning before the 10.30 am service in the prayer room. The slips will continue to be lifted in prayer 4 times as previously (usually over 4 weeks but may be over a longer period). Therefore, please do continue to make use of our prayer request box
situated in the front hall of the church. As always, be assured that information on the slips remains confidential.
The team will also be available for prayer at the front of the church after the Sunday morning service. Should you require prayer in a more confidential space please ask us to move into the prayer room with you and we will be happy to do so. We would encourage you to complete a prayer slip after you have attended for prayer so that we can continue to pray for your situation when we meet together. If you would be interested in being part of the prayer team that you consider this and know that we would dearly love to have your support. Please do approach one of us.
