Our lovely and quickly pro-ducing Community Garden al-so needs tending, plucking and enjoying the fruits (vegetables) of our labor. Last year, we pro-duced an abundance of many vegetables, so feel free to pick at your choosing. Remember to keep your eye on the calendar of events so you won’t miss for instance, the Rusty Skippers Band who will be presenting a concert on June 3rd at 2pm. The Pentecost celebration on Sunday, June 4th, when our children and Diana Blakeley-Smith will be planting gerani-ums. Ministries will be ending on June 11th and so we will cel-ebrate all ministries with the year ending cookout after the 10am service. Also keep in mind that Summer is a time when the financial needs are greatest; so you may want to give in advance when you’re away so that out treasur-er, Jim Kimball, doesn’t have to reshuffle the books. Summer is a lot of fun, no doubt, and I do hope that many of you get away for some relaxation, but do re-member to stay connected to God and to your church family. Have a great time when away but don’t forget to give thanks to God for all he has given us, especially our lovely Parish of Holy Nativity. Blessings, Fr. Harry

Summertime features a lot of family vacations, travel, slow-ing of routines, and just men-tion the word summer and most people begin to imagine the beach, cool drinks and any-thing but the “norm”. All too often, there is that ...“Summer break” from church and some-time even from our spiritual devotions. An old and wise priest once told me to always remind my congregation be-fore Summer begins to have a good Summer and although they may take a holiday from Church, don’t take one from Jesus. Everyone needs to get away from time to time, includ-ing your priests, but we always should remember that the mis-sion of your church does not stop for the summer and there are still many activities that will be going on. In fact, try to remember that our service schedule remains the same, 8:00 am and 10:00 am, and there is always a reflection on the scripture or some educa-tional activity during Coffee Hour.

Wardens’ Report

We can finally say “Welcome to

Summer”. It is not only designated by our calendars, but by the fact that the Church School is ending

for the summer and the choir will also be taking a well earned rest from regular music duties. Even

though things are winding up for the summer, it will be a semi-busy time for the vestry as we address

some small but necessary projects to be taken care of soon.

In our May vestry meeting, we addressed the window project for

our beautiful stained glass win-dows. Some have and are losing the putty that helps seal them and

protect the glass overall. Thanks to Jim Kimball for getting some esti-mates for this very delicate and

specialized work. As we heard at the meeting, some glass compa-nies will not touch a job like this

while others have estimates that vary in many thousands of dollars. A decision will be made shortly to have the work done that will in-

clude replacing the putty and the plexi-glass like covers that protect the windows from the elements.

We are also looking into having the parking lot sealed and re-lined along with some other asphalt re-

pairs and that will probably hap-pen in early summer. Again, esti-mates vary from different compa-

nies.

Along with this, the wardens will do our property walk around be-fore the next vestry meeting and

make a list as we try to do each year, and hopefully this year the list will be short. We are also

working on some property items (con’t next column)

Adult Education

Next Topic

Fr. Harry and I have discussed a brief adult education program over the summer. Given that we live in a complex world, there may be things of con-cern to you that we can possibly discuss, while hopefully maintain-ing a positive attitude. Are there any particular subjects anyone would like to study? The topic could be Bible study, the Book of Common Prayer, history, theology or anything you wish. Customarily, Fr. Harry and I choose the subject, but it would be good to have your ideas for future programs. Please share your ideas with me, Fr. Brad, so we can develop a pro-gram that interests you. Please call me on my cell phone at 617.909.2422 or speak to me at church. God bless, Fr. Brad

Wardens’ Report (con’t) to insure the grounds are well taken care of. You will soon see the new chairs that were purchased here at the church to replace the old and worn metal chairs. As always, if there is a ministry that you would like to be in-volved with or a committee or an event, just let the clergy or any member of the vestry know. We hope that you and your family have a safe and happy summer and we look for-ward to seeing you in Church. May God continue to bless you. Peace, Brian Smith & Steven Williams Co-Wardens

Symbolism of the

Dove

The turtle dove was first men-tioned in the scripture in Genesis 8:8. Noah sent out a dove to see if the waters had receded from the earth. He had previously sent out a raven. The contrast of the two birds could not be more different.

Ravens are excellent flyers, like hawks, and when it was sent out it would have survived by eating floating carrion, using the carrion as a perch.

Doves, however, are not flesh eat-ers but eat grain seed and grasses, and won't land on anything dead. It brought back an olive branch, which is the symbol of peace. The Holy Spirit is the spirit of Life and cannot associate with anything "dead". The dove symbolizes puri-ty. Refer to Matt. 10: 16, "be wary as serpents, innocent as doves." The Holy Spirit is, of course, pure and holy.

Doves don't sing, they have a low, soft coo, a mournful sound. The Holy Spirit can be grieved and quenched by the sinful lifestyle of a believer. Eph: 4 v 30:And do not bring sorrow to God's Holy Spirit by the way you live. Remember, he has identified you as his own, guaranteeing that you will be saved on the day of redemption.

The Holy Spirit is gentle. So, too, doves do not attack other birds or steal food from them, but the raven does.

Finally, doves mate for life, a rep-resentation of the great faithful-ness, love and constancy of the Holy Spirit. www.quora.com/How-does-a-dove-represent-the-holy-spirit

Sunday School

Diana Blakely-Smith has asked if the Sunday school children would like to help plant the gera-niums around the church grounds on Pentecost Sunday, June 4th. If you would like to help do some gardening, wear or bring some gardening clothes and we will get started during the 10:00 service. If you have some gardening tools bring those along too! The last day of Sunday school will be on June 11th. We will have some fun treats and games as we wind down from a very busy year. I would like to thank Shirley Devore, Sheila DeMore, Michelle Patel, and Betsy Hosea for all of their help and assistance this year. I am very grateful to be blessed with such wonderful peo-ple to help me lead a successful Sunday school program. I also want to thank the kids for coming on Sunday mornings with smil-ing faces, lots of energy, and a willingness to be open to God’s word. I would also like to thank the pa-

rishioners of the church for all of

their love and support over the

last year. Your generous dona-
