Holman Success Center recruiting tutors for upcoming semesters

YPSILANTI – The Holman Success Center at Eastern Michigan University is currently recruiting tutors for the upcoming spring, summer and fall 2011 semesters.

The Holman Success Center is hiring tutors in all subjects. Math and science tutors are always the most requested. Students must have at least a B+ in the classes they wish to tutor and an overall GPA of 3.0.

“The benefits of tutoring are flexible hours, tutoring is a resume builder and it will help you retain information you have already learned,” Graduate assistant Kaity Gustin said. “Retaining information is extremely beneficial if you have to take a comprehensive test at the end of your program. If you are going into the education field, it can prepare you for working with students.”

Students can obtain applications from the Success Centerʼs website, http://www.emich.edu/hsc, or from their office on the ground floor of Halle Library. For more information, contact the Holman Success Center at 734.487.2133.

New online program at Eastern Michigan offers flexible tutoring options for students

YPSILANTI – A new online tutoring program has been launched by the Holman Success Center at Eastern Michigan University. The program offers students a flexible way to get tutoring from Holman tutors if they are unable to commit to a weekly tutoring schedule. “The needs of the students are so varied on our campus so it is another viable option for students who are working all the time,” said Judy Mack, Holmanʼs coordinator for the supplemental instruction and tutoring programs. “It offers tutoring for students who canʼt get to campus or who work late and canʼt get regular face-to-face tutoring.” Online tutoring is a free service to students and offers the following:

• Subjects offered for the current fall semester are MATH 110, BIO 105, PLSC 112, PHY 221 and CHEM 121. More subjects will be offered in upcoming semesters.

• Tutoring is done through chat rooms that offer a “white board” and an equation builder.

• All chats are archived for students and tutors to review past sessions if they need to look something up or have questions.
