TERM 3 WEEK 2, 2019
Be Respectful, Be Responsible, Be Safe
Friday 2nd August, 2019
From The Principal
It’s almost hard to believe that it is half way through the year already! We were all pleased to see the students return to school last week and are looking forward to a great term ahead.
The first day back was for a staff development day where we had guest speakers come in to talk about a variety of subjects. Mr Beard also presented us with some information on the Positive Schools Conference he went to last term which will be followed up with more learning towards the end of the term.
Awards at Assembly
This term we are trialling a reverse of assembly awards where we will be presenting one award at the weekly assembly. At the end of term, we will have an award for each student with their achievements that they have been working on during the term.
Education Week
Education Week is next week and the theme for this year is “Every Student, Every Voice”. We are excited to have open classrooms and a BBQ (sausage and bread) next Friday 9th August. We hope that you are able to make it and celebrate all students and their achievements.
Review Meetings
We are looking forward to meeting with all families during Week 4 to discuss Semester 2 Individual Education Plans for students.
Please use this time as an opportunity to discuss the short term and the long term goals for your children.
For our older senior students, Giovanna Cox, the Transition Teacher, will be joining in on the meetings to discuss post school transition and plans.
Teachers will also invite any case managers, OT
and Speech Therapists who support the students.
Book Week
The theme for Book Week 2019 is “Reading is My Superpower”.
Staff are currently in the process of activity planning and more information will be made available soon.
Scope and Sequences
Teachers have been working on Scope and Sequences for the school. These are an overview plan of each subject listing down what themes students will be learning about across K-12.
This will provide some guidance to all staff and give the students a variety of topic areas across the curriculum.
Have a safe and a fun weekend!

Wombats
Hi everyone,
My name is Esther Kibe and I am the new teacher of the Wombat class. I have spent the past two weeks getting to know the students and they have been a pleasure to work with.
A big thank you to the Holman Place staff and
students for welcoming me into the school community. The Wombats enjoyed horse riding at the RDA and gymnastics at PCYC this week. We look forward to more exciting days at RDA and PCYC.
Congratulations to Djirrali who was presented with the student of the week award for Week 1.
Emily received a commendation award too. Congratulations, Emily!
I look forward to meeting my students’ parents during the IEP meetings in Week 4.
Ms Esther, Nat & Sharon
Koalas
Welcome back to another term. All the children seemed to have grown another two inches.
This term we will be focussing on Families as part of History. We’ll be sending home requests for photos and information in the form of a questionnaire. Please
talk about this with your child when the time comes.
This week as part of community access, we visited the POW campsite to look at the work that has been done there. It’s well worth a visit.
We’ve started RDA and Gymnastics this week. Also as part of PDHPE
we’ll be working on our ball skills in kicking and throwing and we’ll continue to use the playground equipment. It has been wonderful to see children master swinging by themselves.
I look forward to talking to parents and carers for IEP Review Meetings in week four.
Mrs Cathy & Sue
Goannas
Welcome to term 3.
This term the Goannas will go do gymnastics at the PCYC on Tuesdays. RDA will continue on Wednesday and we have community access, shopping and cooking on Thursdays.
In history we will be looking at past, present
and future, focusing particularly on families.
“Reading is my Secret Power”, is the theme for book week this year. This term in literacy the Goannas will be looking at the rich texts short listed for 2019.
We have already used our superpowers to do a book report on ‘Heads and Tails’ by John Canty.
Many of the book week books have animals and insects in them, we will be doing several projects looking at various animals over the next few weeks.
The term will culminate with a trip to Dubbo Zoo to further investigate these animals.

TERM 3, 2019
Emus
The Emu class has come back to school after the holidays and ready to learn. I have seen great effort from all students in their engagement and willingness to learn.
This term we are studying the Middle Ages in History. This subject is of high interest to the students. We have been
Policing. After some initial discussion about weapons and cars we had some meaningful conversation about road safety, cyber safety and the role of a Police Officer. We hope that we can continue this positive relationship with Jane and that she visits our school again.
Miss Brooke & Ruth
working hard on improving our writing, adding adjectives and more detail. We are having lots of fun making silly sentences and short stories.
We were lucky enough to have a visit from Jane, our local School/Police Liaison Officer last week. Students from the senior classes were able to ask any questions about
This term we are back into the kitchen running the Friday canteen program. What a hit Chicken Cacciatore was last week!
We look forward to catching up with you all in Week 4 for IEP meetings!
Miss Silvia, Miss Tahlia and Chris
as an informative and historic journey into the past.
As ‘green thumbs’ we are preparing the vegetable garden for a spring crop. We are anticipating a fun time watching our broccoli grow in preparation for the Cowra Show broccoli growing competition.
Kangaroos

Welcome back to Term 3!
This term the Kangaroos will be focusing on Science, History and Geography. Our unit of study on licorice will hopefully take us to the Junee Chocolate and Licorice Factory as well
