Yes Ma'am, No Ma'am In my classroom, students will learn how to address adults more formally. This is what is what is taught in the academies for fire, police, and military.

Students will be prompted to say “ma’am or sir” in the response when speaking or answering yes or no.

These phrases (“yes/no ma’am/sir”, “yes please”, “no thank you”, etc.) replace common slang such as “yeah” and “uh huh”

Chromebooks and Homework Policies

Page 16: History/Geography Mrs. Skrodzki

Chromebooks & HomeworkChromebooks:● Chromebooks are used for school assignments only in class. ● NO GAMES WILL BE PLAYED ON THEM in any of my classes. Students also need

earbuds or a headset of some kind to utilize with their Chromebooks.● When completing questions, “GOOGLING” answers for questions will result in a ZERO.

Homework:● Homework to be submitted/completed by the following class (quizzes on read material may take place the following day as the ENTRY TICKET). Extenuating circumstances can be discussed through parent-teacher communication in advance. For remote students, homework submission must be received the morning of class by 8:00 AM as would be required for students attending on-site instruction.● If a student is absent, it is his/her responsibility to make up work. If absent, students can check Google Classroom and can also have a reliable buddy in class they feel confident asking about the day’s work.

*Homework should ALWAYS be copied in a planner as it is difficult to rely on memory to keep organized.

Page 17: History/Geography Mrs. Skrodzki

ClassworkNote-Taking and Assignments● All students are expected to take notes in written form in a binder at times. ● Some format of the RACES response will be used to respond to questions (Restate

the question, Answer the question, Cite evidence, Explain the cited evidence in support of the answer, Sum it up - conclusion) in Social Studies to continue with the cross curricular practice of the very important skill.

● Students will also be incorporating annotation into note-taking/outlining and practice developing good study habits as part of lesson instruction in addition to Social Studies content.

Three Binder Sections for grades 6-8: Current Events (CNN10/MyStory), History Notes/Vocabulary, Geography/Teamwork Tasks

Two Binder Sections Gr.5: Current Events (CNN10) and Geography/Vocabulary

Your DAILY Do-Now

Page 29: History/Geography Mrs. Skrodzki

Read Only - What is CNN10 for Current Events?CNN10 (formerly CNN Student News) is a daily video newscast produced by CNN10 with anchor Carl Azuz. The program is designed specifically for middle and high school students. In a typical day, it'll feature three to four stories, a bit of trivia, a funny viral video clip, and some closing puns. All of that happens in ten short minutes.

It is actually “fair and balanced” and non-partisan. Despite the political attacks on its parent company, CNN10 is about as unbiased and straightforward as a newscast can be and does not fall victim to “fake news”.

CNN10 simply presents issues and goes to painstaking lengths to offer balance of viewpoints. It reports FACTS not opinions or viewpoints meant for persuasion.

They have been prepped on outlining and annotating skills that they will hone over the course of the year.Flipped Classroom: Social Studies is three days a week and it makes it difficult to cover Current Events, History, and Geography so students will be required to sometimes read, watch videos, or complete note-taking/annotating activities for homework in preparation for the next class.
