The American Tutors Guide, 1808Math Problem from the Early National PeriodCan YOU figure it out?

A man overtaking a maid driving a flock of geese, said to her, how do you do, sweetheart? Where are you going with these 100 geese? No Sir, said she, I have not 100; but if I had [twice] as many, half as many, and seven geese and a half, I should have 100: How many had she?

The Answer is 37 but how do you solve it to find 37?

The Answer 37 x 2 = 74

37 / 2 = 18.5

74 + 18.5 + 7 + = 100
