Objects all around us
are made from everyday materials. There are many different types
of materials. These are some that we see every day.
This is the name given to the way materials
behave. Most objects are made from lots of different materials and
these materials are selected because they behave in certain ways.
In school, chairs are made of plastic and metal because
this makes them light, strong and easy to clean.

rough describes a material that has lots of bumps
smooth describes a material that has no lumps or bumps
waterproof describes a material that keeps water out
absorbent soaks up liquid easily
opaque light cannot pass through (can’t see through)
transparent light can pass through (can see through)
