``His Master's Voice"
OPENING NIGHTS OF ITALIAN GRAND OPERA AT COVENT GARDEN
Tuesday, May 20th. CARUSO NIGHT (" Pagliacci ")
What the London '*Daily Telegraph" Bays: It is many a long year since such a rush to the box-
office was witnessed as occurred on the morning of the announcement that on Tuesday next Caruso would re-appear in... Pagliacci.' By telephone and telegram came a record number of applications for seats. By eleven o'clock-an hour before the sale of tickets com- menced- the house for Tuesday was sold out, at greatly enhanced yrices. "-" Daily Telegraph," 7i Iuy 17th.

Thursday, May 22nd. MELBA NIGHT (" La Boheme ")
What the London "Daily Telegraph" says : The tremendous esteem in which the prima donna is
held, may be guessed from the fact that within one hour of the first announcement of the performance on Thursday evening next, every seat in the house was sold ; and at eleven o clock in the morning there was a queue of 300 or 400 people outside the box-
office, waiting their turn to buy seats that could not be sold.'-"Daily Telegraph," May 19th.

Olga, Elgar and Eli Hudson are, as we all know, that famous con- ductor and instrumental- ist, Mr. Eli Hudson ; the delightful soprano (Olga) Mdme. became quite so famous as a humorist he wrote this
pretty serenade, of which Mr. Hubert Eisdell gives a rendering instinct with both sweetness and vigour. Our new tenor, whose records have met with such sensational success, imparts to "Awake" the same charm and distinctiveness which has made the extraordinary success of his

Percy Fletcher
A SONG somewhat difficult
to class. The charms of Kitty are tenderly dwelt
upon by Mr. Charles Tree, as though he truly worshipped and adored her. At the same time her failings-what a pity-are not forgotten ; in fact, the con- tents of a calculating bachelor's mind are intimately revealed. The sense of novelty we have come to expect from Mr.Charles Tree is amply satisfied in " Kitty."

ONE of those charming romantic ballads of which Stephen Adams
has long possessed the secret ; its simple strains being given with touching effect by Madame Edna Thornton. The line-

Miss Ruby Heider virility and dramatic power of the climax gives this record
a high place among the performances of this famous lady tenor. Miss Ruby Helder
recently had the distinction of being engaged for a millionaire's private concert in America, having to make the journey specially for this one appearance. It is said that Caruso heard her wonderful voice and was so impressed that he secured for her an engagement at the Metropolitan Opera House, New York; she will appear in tenor
roles at the next operatic season there.

Short Stories, No. 1 ISS MAR is "great"-listen to one of the
stories on this record. We all know now that "rubberneck" is 'American' for one
who twists this way and that to see what there is to see-especially tourists. Miss Mar tells us that this is often shortened to "rubber" and is also applied to inquisitive people. An Englishman in a New York tram gazed stupefied at the ugliness of a motherly person's baby opposite - gazed so long and hard that the mother jerked out "Rubber!" "Thank God," was the retort, "I feared it was real ! " (Speed 81)
