The drawing room is a large dual aspect room with views both to the front and the rear gardens and terrace. There is a built in stripped timber corner cabinet and a further timber built bookcase with stripped doors as well as a fireplace with efficient multi-fuel burner.

The rear lobby forms part of the Victorian extension, with a window to the rear, cloaks area, boot box/window seat, door to the garden and two doors leading to the cloakroom and sitting room.

The cloakroom has a window to the side, built in cupboard space housing the electrical consumer unit and underneath the tiled work surface there is facilities for a washing machine and tumble dryer. Low-level WC and wash hand basin with tiled splash back and further built in cupboard space.

The owners note that the property has plenty of character, found in the “big old solid oak beams, the beautiful inglenook fireplace, the original Hornton stone floors and massively thick and reassuring Hornton stone walls, and the broad, mellow elm flooring upstairs”. There is character both old and new here, as the owners in the 1980s added gorgeous wooden traceries from an old church throughout the house, helping the light flow through all the rooms.

Bedroom 2 has a beautiful stone feature fireplace, its age (pre-dating Hillside House) and style suggests that it came from rather a grand home. There are exposed ceiling beams, wall light points and dual aspects to the rear and front with window seats to both.

The history of the house is evident throughout, with its classic features and in particular the date stone, revealing that Hillside was built in 1671, for the purpose of a marriage. The owners have extensively researched the history of the home, finding that “The most famous resident we know of was Joy Williams, who lived in the house from her childhood during the first world war, up until the 1980’s when she moved to a smaller cottage down the lane. Much-loved by all in the village, she is best remembered for being the beautiful Land-Army poster girl during the second world war, featuring on the posters to encourage young women to sign up and help the war effort”. They also found that the fireplace in the guest bedroom is older that the house itself, most likely being a wedding present for the couple the home was built for!

Bedroom 4 faces the front aspect with a window seat, tracery, ample built in wardrobes and exposed beams, whilst the Victorian extension houses Bedroom 3 which has sash windows overlooking the rear garden, stripped floorboards and a Victorian fireplace with cast iron surround and timber mantle. Adjacent to this is a large family bathroom, fitted in a Victorian style with roll top bath, high level WC and pedestal wash hand basin as well as a Victorian style radiator, there is a large shower cubicle with Victorian style attachments.

This has a winding staircase and excellent ceiling height, given the proximity to the roof, plus a dormer window overlooking the garden. There are exposed ceiling beams and two doors leading to Bedrooms 5 and 6.

Bedroom 5 has a dormer window to the front aspect and exposed beams and radiator heating and a step up into an en suite bathroom, giving this area a degree of self containment. The landing could easily be used as a sitting room and could be useful for an aupair or an ideal teenage ‘pad’. The en-suite bathroom has a large built in cupboard with hanging rail, whilst Bedroom 6 is another double sized room with pretty stone mullion window on the side aspect, exposed beams and a dormer window overlooking the rear gardens.
