    FROM THE PASTORS DESK

Dear Brothers and Sisters, Members andFriends of the Hill United Presbyterian Church:

As February comes around, so does thebeginning of the Lenten Season starting withAsh Wednesday on February 13, 2013.

We receive the name Lent from thelengthening of the days as we move towardspring and Easter, the Great-Getting-Up dayof Jesus Christ.

Also, Lent is a time when we can focus spiritually

upon our discipleship for our Lord Jesus Christ.

Ash Wednesday worship begins this process aswe use ashes symbolic for repentance from sinand a turning to a greater faith, hope and lovethrough the Lord Jesus Christ.

See you in worship and blessings inthis upcoming Lenten season!

    GHANA MISSION TASK FORCE REPORT

As we move into the new year, weremind you that our scholarshipfund needs replenished in orderto send funds by earlySeptember. This past September, over $6200was transferred to the Bubiashie District

scholarship committee, resulting in assistance for31 young women to attend high school, college, ora technical school. Thanks to each and every oneof last years contributors. Further, we invite allothers to join us in this endeavor in 2013.Remember, setting aside one dollar each day forthis fund can add up in a short time.

The 31 scholars represent all five churches of thedistrict. A scholarship is especially important for

the three students in the smallest and poorestcongregation. 24 of the young women are in highschool, six are in college (one in medical college),and one is in midwifery training school. Their agesrange from 16 to 26. There are 19 different highschools represented. Remember that Accra hasover six million residents.

On January 14th, we received a Christmas cardfrom the Bubiashie congregation addressed to the

Hill congregation, wishing us a very merryChristmas. It took 21 days for delivery. The cardis hanging with the Bubiashie banner.

Please keep the Bubiashie District churches, theBubiashie scholarship committee, as well as thestudents in your prayers.

A man in the Middle Ages became fed up with humanity and decided to spend the rest of hislife in a monastery. The abbot warned him that he would have to take a vow of silence and live therest of his life as a scribe. The man replied, "No problem. I'm sick of talking.

Ten years went by, and the abbot called for the man. He told him that he was a model monk and perfecscribe, and they were very happy with him. As per tradition he was allowed say two words. So he noddeand said, "Food cold." The abbot sent him on his way.

Ten years later, he was brought before the abbot again and told how pleased they were with hperformance, and he was again allowed two more words. The man said, "Bed hard," and was sent back twork.

Another ten years went by and again the abbot sent for the man, telling him he was the best monk thehad ever had, and that he was allowed another two words. The man nodded and said, "I quit."

The abbot replied in a disgusted tone, "Doesn't surprise me. You're done nothing but complain since you gohere."
