    May 2013FROM THE PASTORS DESK

Dear Brothers and Sisters, Members and Friendsof the Hill United Presbyterian Church:

When Jesus was with His disciples at the LastSupper, He said to them from Johns gospel: Anew commandment I give to you, that you loveone another; even as I have loved you. By thisall people will know that you are my disciples, ifyou have love for one another.

In a world in which there is so much strife, ill-willand violence, the Christian Gospel makes it clearthat the essence of Gods Being in Jesus Christ islove.

As the Christian writer George Mac Donald oncewrote: In one word, God is love. Love is thedeepest depth, the essence of Gods nature, at theroot of all Gods Being.

If this is true, then before we followers of Christcan do the work of Gods people in activelysharing Gods love with others, we must first bethe people of God.

At the root of our beings, there must be love ofGod, love of self, and love of others.

From that basis then, the Lord then leads us toshare His love in a world that is crying out forlove!

    In Gods Love

    Pastor Clark

GHANA MISSION TASK FORCE NEWSCongratulations and a very big thank

you to the young participants of Kids

    Club who contributed enough money

for three $150 scholarships. This was

done by the over 80 participants who

contributed just a few cents or a couple of dollars

each week for the 12 weeks of the program. Are notthese young Christians to be commended? What a

remarkable achievement. This is a great mission

story. Thank you also to the parents who instill such

values in their children. Praise be to God.

We recently received the following information from

another one of our scholarship awardees: Mary

Bankas is 24 and attended the University of

Development Studies which is located in Wa, in the

Upper West Region of Ghana. This is over 300miles northwest of Accra. Mary is pursuing studies

in business. Her favorite classes are management

and accounting. Her goal is to become a chartered

banker. Her mother is a trader. This family of three

(mother, sister, and Mary) belong to the Bubiashie

congregation. Mary enjoys activities in the church

with Bible studies, bible quiz, and choir practice.

She has an interest in reading, specifically the Bible

    and academic books.

Mary currently lives in Peki in the Volta region.

    Her e-mail is: [email protected]

Her facebook contact is: Bankas Mary

An e-mail received on April 14, 2013 reports that

McWilson Atakro is doing well. He appreciates

receiving the newsletter via e-mail and thanks

    Jennifer for this.

Contributions for our August scholarship package

are coming in slowly, but steadily. You are

encouraged to continue to consider this specific

    church mission project.

Please keep the Bubiashie District churches, the

Bubiashie scholarship committee, as well as the

    students in your prayers.

A few years ago a group of salesmen went to a regional sales convention in Chicago

They had assured their wives that they would be home in plenty of time for Frida

night's dinner. In their rush, with ticket and briefcases, one of these salesme

inadvertently kicked over a table which held a display of apples. Apple

flew everywhere. Without stopping or looking back, they all managed to reach th

plane in time for their nearly-missed boarding...

ALL BUT ONE!!! He paused, took a deep breath, got in touch with his feelings and experienced a twinge o

compassion for the girl whose apple stand had been overturned.

He told his buddies to go on without him, waved good-bye, told one of them to call his wife when the

arrived at their home destination and explain his taking a later flight. Then he returned to the termina

where the apples were all over the terminal floor.

He was glad he did. The 16-year-old girl was totally blind! She was softly crying, tears running down he

cheeks in frustration, and at the same time helplessly groping for her spilled produce as the crowd swirle

about her; no one stopping and no one to care for her plight.

The salesman knelt on the floor with her, gathered up the apples, put them back on the table and helpeorganize her display. As he did this, he noticed that many of them had become battered and bruised; thes

he set aside in another basket.

When he had finished, he pulled out his wallet and said to the girl, "Here, please take this $40 for th

damage we did. Are you okay?"She nodded through her tears. He continued on with, "I hope we didn't spo

    your day too badly."

As the salesman started to walk away, the bewildered blind girl called out to him, "Mister...." He paused an

turned to look back into those blind eyes. She continued, "Are you Jesus?"

He stopped in mid-stride .... and he wondered. He gently went back and said, "No, I am nothing like JesusHe is good, kind, caring, loving, and would never have bumped into your display in the first place.

"The girl gently nodded: "I only asked because I prayed for Jesus to help me gather the apples. He sent yo

to help me, so you are like Him - only He knows who will do His will. Thank you for hearing His call, Mister."

Then slowly he made his way to catch the later flight with that question burning and bouncing about in h

    soul: "Are you Jesus?"

Do people mistake you for Jesus?

That's our destiny, is it not? To be so much like Jesus that people cannot tell the difference as we live an

interact with a world that is blind to His love, life and grace.

If we claim to know Him, we should live, walk and act as He would. Knowing Him is more than simpl

quoting scripture and going to church. It's actually living the Word as life unfolds day to day .

You are the apple of His eye even though you, too, have been bruised by a fall. He stopped what

He was doing and picked up you and me on a hill called Calvary and paid in full for our damaged

    fruit.8
