“ELSIE’S ROSE”

On a sultry summer’s eve,August twenty-six, nineteen thirty-five,Wee Elsie Goodwin,

Waited for her baby to arrive

Page 3: Hilda Richardson August 26, 1935 - Forever In Our Hearts

And as she held her rosebud,Soft, petal skin from head to

toe,Elsie whispered to her Jack,“Into a rose, I’m sure she’ll

grow.”

Page 4: Hilda Richardson August 26, 1935 - Forever In Our Hearts

So, Hilda bloomed into a lady,Long and lean, and fair of face,

And, not unlike her mother’s rose,Filled with style and with grace.

Page 5: Hilda Richardson August 26, 1935 - Forever In Our Hearts

Her stem is strong and rigid,But, in the storm it gives and

bends,And when thorn is truly needed,It’s message prickles as it fends.

Page 6: Hilda Richardson August 26, 1935 - Forever In Our Hearts

And as the years go by,Elsie’s rose will re-appear,

Each summer she’ll get older,More wise, yet still more dear.

Page 7: Hilda Richardson August 26, 1935 - Forever In Our Hearts

By now, she is a bouquet,With Ollie, two sons, and a

daughter of her own,She nurtured all her family,Till they were fully grown.

Elsie’s rose has lasting beauty,

We’re here to witness it, if I may say,

Happy Birthday, we all love you, Hilda,

We’re proud of you and yours today.

Page 9: Hilda Richardson August 26, 1935 - Forever In Our Hearts

And so, as we gather here tonight,I can hear what Jack would

say,“Oh, yes, she is a rose, my

love,There’s nothing more to say.”

Can you help me, Lord? I’m 70 years old!

Can you help me, Lord? I’ve lost my keys

They were in my hand when I locked the door

They’ve just disappeared,They’re not here anymore!

Page 41: Hilda Richardson August 26, 1935 - Forever In Our Hearts

Can you help me, Lord? I’ve lost my glasses

They were in my hand when I locked the door

They’ve just disappeared,They’re not here anymore!

Can you help me, Lord? I’ve lost directions to the

party,There were in my hand when I

locked the doorThey’ve just disappeared,

They’re not here anymore!

Page 43: Hilda Richardson August 26, 1935 - Forever In Our Hearts

Can you help me, Lord? I lost some money,

It was in my hand as I walked out the door,

It’s just disappeared,It’s not here anymore!

Page 44: Hilda Richardson August 26, 1935 - Forever In Our Hearts

Can you help me, Lord? I’ve lost my memory

What is my grandson’s name?I called him Doug, Bruce,

then Jack,I can tell he’s not into this

“name” game!

Page 45: Hilda Richardson August 26, 1935 - Forever In Our Hearts

Can you help me, Lord? I’ve lost my mind

I’m sure I had it yesterday in the store,

It’s just disappeared,It’s not here anymore!
