HE validation/approvalWe have 2 possible models:-
1. The curriculum is developed by the
college and then validated by an HEI.
2. The college is approved by an HEI to deliver one or more of its courses.
‘Off the Shelf” delivery
Our validating HEIs• The Open University Validation Services
(OUVS)
• University of Greenwich
• University of Portsmouth
• Anglia Ruskin University (APU)
• London South Bank University
• University of East London
• University of Sunderland (distance learning)
The problems!
• Quality Assurance – Need an ‘umbrella’ QA system that meets the requirements of validating HEIs
• Never free from scrutiny-
– HEI Annual reports
– HEI Course reviews and audits
– QAA subject reviews
• HE ethos in a further education setting
• Staff conditions
• Research and scholarly activities
• Curriculum development – creation of new courses
• Meeting targets
• Securing external examiners
The tensions
• The relationship with our validating HEIs
• Top-up fees?
• Future funding?
• The role of the LSC?
Future developments
Future developments
• Top up fees of £3000 – we will continue to charge the standard fee in 2006
• Changes to HEFCE funding – will it become formula based and more like LSC FE funding?
• HE students to have Personal Development Plans (PDP) – like individual learning plans (ILPs)
