2. The college is approved by an HEI to deliver one or more of its courses.

The problems!

Page 10: Higher Education at Havering College John Morris Academic Registrar

• Quality Assurance – Need an ‘umbrella’ QA system that meets the requirements of validating HEIs

• Never free from scrutiny-

– HEI Annual reports

– HEI Course reviews and audits

– QAA subject reviews

• HE ethos in a further education setting

• Staff conditions

• Research and scholarly activities

• Curriculum development – creation of new courses

• Meeting targets

• Securing external examiners

The tensions

Page 13: Higher Education at Havering College John Morris Academic Registrar

• The relationship with our validating HEIs

• Top-up fees?

• Future funding?

• The role of the LSC?

Future developments

Page 15: Higher Education at Havering College John Morris Academic Registrar

Future developments

• Top up fees of £3000 – we will continue to charge the standard fee in 2006

• Changes to HEFCE funding – will it become formula based and more like LSC FE funding?

• HE students to have Personal Development Plans (PDP) – like individual learning plans (ILPs)
