High Resolution Ex-Vivo MRI Ex-Vivo DTI of Brain Stem

This image is a high resolution MRI acquisition of an ex-vivo tissue sample. This image is provided as a courtesy from Dr. Ernesto Coscarella, M.D. department of Neurosurgery University of Miami.

This animation is a high resolution Diffusion Tensor Imaging (DTI) dataset of an ex-vivo brain stem. The above image is a Color Map, where the color designates nerve bundle orientation, blue represents bundles oriented in-out of the image plane, red represents bundles oriented in the left-right direction and green represents bundles oriented in the up-down direction.

High Resolution Ex-Vivo MRI of Brain

These are high resolution MRI acquisitions of an ex-vivo brain. Many of the structures that are not visible on an in-vivo scan are easily seen on an ex-vivo scan.

MRI of Traumatic Brain Injury

A composite of the several MRI experiments conducted on an In Vivo rat TBI model (not all images from same subject). Top Left: Color Map image, where the primary orientation of neuronal fiber bundles are colored, the coherence of the corpus callosum is apparent. Top Right: Fractional Anisotropy (FA) image, the intensity of the image is scaled with the anisotropy of water diffusion. Middle Left: Apparent Diffusion Coefficient Map, where amount of water diffusion is scaled with pixel intensity. Middle Right: Color Map image, where the secondary orientation of neuronal fiber bundles are colored. Bottom Left: Perfusion image, the cerebral blood volume (CBV) and cerebral blood flow (CBF) is calculated from a range of measurements. A focal area of high perfusion is apparent on the left side of this image, the area of white. Bottom Right: Anatomical image, this is a T2 weighted image demonstrating the rat brain anatomy.

MRI of Stroke

Left Image: In vivo Anatomical image, this is a T2 weighted image demonstrating the brain anatomy in addition to areas affected by photo-thrombotic stroke. Right Image: Diffusion weighted image (DWI), this image displays areas with fast water diffusion as dark and areas with slow water diffusion as bright. The area affected by stroke is easily contrasted with the contra-lateral side and ventricles.
