From The PresidentDear Adath Community,

This New Year, our congregation continues to provide tradition and innovation. We offer spiritual and educational experiences for all ages.

In our efforts to welcome all who want to participate in High Holy Day services, we will continue to use the High Holy Days Pass instead of “tickets” to ensure that everyone feels welcome, safe and connected to one another. Passes allow us to know the names of all our guests; this serves both as a safety measure and allows us to greet everyone who joins us.

In this booklet, you will find a wide array of services and programs. While many are geared to a specific audience, none are exclusive and all are welcome. We invite you to explore various experiences that meet the spiritual and educational interests for you and your families.

In approaching this reflective time of year, Adath Jeshurun Congregation renews our enduring commitment to enrich lives today and in the future.

L’Shanah Tovah Tikatevu,

Barb Fishman, Adath President

S’lichotThe High Holy Day season begins with S’lichot, a collection of psalms, poetry and prayer meant to inspire us to begin the process of T’shuvah - returning. S’lichot re-introduces us to the High Holy Day melodies and themes, opening us up to the essential work of the Days of Awe.

Erev Rosh HashanahWe come together to encounter the quiet of the evening that introduces us to the first day of possibility. We gather the strength to engage in personal and com-munal renewal as we dedicate ourselves to bringing in the New Year in prayer and peace.

Rosh Hashanah - First DayToday is the birthday of the world. We have arrived. It is the day to hear the call of the shofar deep within us all, to be in radical amazement of the world that surrounds us. The synagogue buzzes as our family, friends and community are called together for a day of reflection and renewal.

The Days of AweRosh Hashanah - Second DayThe reflection continues. We gather again to resume our search. The Akedah, the story of Abraham’s near sacrifice of Isaac his son, challenges us to our core and defines the mood of this service. Through the liturgy, we seek acceptance of our limits and the finding of our truth.

Kol Nidre The sun sets, ushering in the holiest day of the year. At Kol Nidre we pray with each other, with all of our imperfections and longings for healing. The liturgy and legendary medley of songs speaks of our annulment of vows and invites us in to break new ground and create space for something new.

Yom KippurThis is the day we all pass before God – a God who is merciful, compassionate, abounding in love, and forgiving. We ask to be granted release. We seek to be made whole, to begin anew, to move forward with our lives with all of the potential and promise that lies within each one of us.

Adath High Holy Day PassesFor many, the High Holy Days are a time to forge a special connec-tion to Adath as we fill our Sanctuary with our community, our voices and our prayers. In the past we have put a priority on the mechanics of how we welcome you through Adath’s doors. That has changed.

High Holy Day Passes allow us to know the names of all your guests—a responsible safety measure—and to follow-up with each new person who walks into the building. There will be no charge for guest Passes.

Use the enclosed form or register online to order a pass for each family member or guest over the age of thirteen.

Sustaining the congregation we all love and ensuring our syna-gogue’s financial health remains a priority. So in the spirit of giving that is at the heart of the season, please consider making a dona-tion in honor of your guests and older children. Passes will also give everyone the opportunity to make a pledge to our Annual L’Chaim Campaign on Yom Kippur.

We hope our High Holy Day Pass signals to all that they are welcome at Adath for any service at any time. We look forward to wishing you Shanah Tovah, a happy, healthy year, as we celebrate together in the warmth of community.

The month of Elul, which this year begins with Rosh Chodesh on Sept. 1st, marks the start of our personal preparation for the High Holy Days. Along with planning for our cherished family traditions surrounding the holiday table, we can take advantage of this month for introspection, self-improvement and reflection.

Study with Rabbi Cytron, Adath Senior Scholar Bringing Yom Kippur to an End: Exploring the Neilah Service

Join Rabbi Barry Cytron as we prepare for the upcoming High Holy Days. He will use the final volume of Rabbi Lawrence Hoffman’s series of books on the High Holy Days entitled The Closing of the Gates. As a culmination to

a fascinating exploration of the central prayers of the Days of Awe, this volume explores Judaism’s central message of life’s purpose and the ongoing search for meaning in a world of human frailty but also promise.

ParkingIf our on-site lots are full, you may:• Park on Lindbergh Drive

(be careful to observe signs).

• Park in designated over-flow lots.

• Ride the shuttle bus.

Temporary Exit

A temporary exit will be available on the east side of the parking lot between the Aleph and Bet services on Rosh Hashanah and Yom Kippur.

You cannot enter at this opening and no parking is allowed on the residential street between Windsor Lake Drive and the tempo-rary exit. Cars exiting the Adath lot through the tem-porary exit will be directed to turn right on Windsor Lake Drive and then direct-ed back to Lindbergh Drive.

Note: There is one hour be-tween the end of the Aleph service and the beginning of the Bet Musaf service. We urge congregants not to arrive early for the Bet Musaf service so that Aleph congregants have time to clear the parking lots.

On Kol Nidre: The break between the Aleph and Bet services is only 45 minutes.

Adath’s Outreach Caring Community: Yad Sima Tova has volunteers available to provide transportation to Adath members who need a ride to High Holy Day services. Please make

arrangements at least five 5 days in advance by calling the Yad Sima Tova Transportation Hotline at 952.215.3937.

Accessible Parking

If you have a Disability Parking Tag, you are wel-come to use any desig-nated parking spot or the reserved disabled parking area by the West/Gan Shel-anu Preschool entrance. If you use the West entrance, you can take the elevator up to the Sanctuary level.

Please leave disabled spac-es for drivers who require them. If you are driving a person with a disability, you may drop that person off at the front entrance and park in a regular parking space.

No Parking Areas

The following are FIRE LANES for emergency vehi-cles only:• Entire entry road from

Hillside Lane to the building.

• Curbs on edges of park-ing lots.

• Curbs next to building.• Drop-off areas at the

main entrance and at the West/Gan Shelanu Pre-school entrance. (These are the circular areas in front of the doors.)

Minnetonka Police will also post temporary no parking signs on some narrow resi-dential streets to allow fire truck access.

Shuttle Bus

Consider the convenience of the shuttle bus. Shuttle service will be available from the east parking lot of Westwood Lutheran Church, 9001 Cedar Lake Road (three blocks east of Highway 169) to the Adath main entrance. Please enter the church parking lot on the east side.

Kol Nidre:Adath will provide shuttle service from the Lindbergh Center parking lot (off Lindbergh Drive next to Hopkins High School) to the Adath main entrance.
