Our High Achievers’ Academy is designed to help stretch academically talented students to achieve great results and enhance their full potential.

We select talented students and provide a tailored programme to coach and support them to achieve their maximum potential. We combine outstanding teaching and a deep commitment to working with each individual to stretch and challenge their thinking, develop their intellect and create an environment where success is encouraged and achieved.

WHO IS ELIGIBLE?

If you are likely to achieve six or more GCSEs at A* – B grades, including Maths and English, then you will be considered for inclusion in the High Achievers’ Academy.

The Academy has specially tailored activities designed to enhance personal development and enable academic students to reach their true potential.

Open to students studying both A Levels and BTEC courses, the programme provides the opportunity to interact and socialise with talented students from other disciplines. We also include vital Oxbridge preparation to ensure our talented students are well prepared for this rigorous process.

HOW IS THE PROGRAMME STRUCTURED?

The programme is designed over two years:

Year One:

We will also introduce you to the idea of applying to prestigious universities such as Russell Group universities including Oxford and Cambridge and Southampton, through conferences and visits, as well as preparing you for writing personal statements, volunteering, fundraising and helping explore work experience opportunities.

In the first year of the Academy you will be encouraged to study at least four subjects (can include A Levels and BTECs) and in tutorials you will have the opportunity to develop transferable skills for life beyond college including:

• Debating • Oxbridge/university preparation • Conferences • Expert speakers • Leadership and enterprise initiatives

We also participate in the HE+ Project in Partnership with the University of Cambridge to develop higher order thinking skills and access specific support for entry to Russell Group universities.

Year Two: In the second year, focus shifts to preparation and planning for university or joining the workplace - so an emphasis on completing the personal statement, visiting universities and ensuring students reflect the additional elements they have studied as part of the programme.

For those planning to start their career straight out of college there will be opportunities to prepare job applications and practise for job interviews. We also work through applications for student finance and discuss budgeting - a must for any student or first time worker!

Second year students can also study for the Extended Project Qualification. Based on a subject of personal interest, this project extends research and study skills to deliver an in-depth project. The final part of the year is spent preparing for the summer exams.

My two years at Andover College have been very enjoyable and the most settled I have been in education. The lecturers exude enthusiasm in their teaching which satisfies me as a student, with reflection in our overall results.
