HARVEST FESTIVAL

Back in September we asked for donations on behalf of Slough Food

Bank, for the harvest festival. We had a fantastic response and collect-

ed so many items that Slough Food Bank are so grateful for. We

would like to take this opportunity to thank our parents and children

for their generous donations. We are extremely proud to have such a

giving community around our children and believe that the harvest

festival is a great tradition to promote charity to our future genera-

tions.

HEAD BOY/GIRL

Children in Year 6 were also running for Head Boy and Head Girl of the school. Our winners

were…..

Aarunya & Antrix

Congratulations to you both! We look forward to you bringing

forward the children’s ideas and being superb role models for our

school.

SCHOOL COUNCIL ELECTIONS

On Wednesday 2nd October school council elections were held. Chil-dren from each class, who wanted the chance to be a school council-lor, put their names forward and told their class why they would be good for the job. The candidates from each class had the opportunity to make a speech within assembly and also produced posters to en-courage others to vote for them. Children then went to their designat-ed voting booths where they had to pick one candidate for the role of school councillor for their class. It was a fantastic chance for children to understand how democracy works and how our voting system works.

RUGBY WORLD CUP DAY

On Thursday 26th September we celebrated the Rugby match, Eng-

land v USA, as a whole school. Children got to spend the day in class

taking part in Rugby themed activities and also got to watch the

match live within class. We also had parents come in to have lunch

with their child/children and enjoy watching the match together. The

day was a great success and we hope to get the opportunity to run

more days like this in the future.

NURSERY

Our Nursery children have been get-

ting used to their environment and

order of the day. Learning new

songs, practising being independent

and making new friends.

RECEPTION

Reception children have been retelling the story ‘We’re going on a

bear hunt’. They went on a bear hunt around the school grounds

whilst retelling the story. They also read the story ‘The Little Red Hen’

and even went to visit the school’s hens. They learnt about how to

care and look after them.

YEAR 1

Year 1 have been learning about old and new Langley as part of their

topic this half term. They all went for a local walk around our area,

using a map they covered local roads as well as Maplin Park. On their

walk they looked for human features such as houses as well as physi-

cal features such as trees. All children had a great time exploring and

it made a lovely link to their Outdoor Learning too!

YEAR 2

Year 2 are looking at journey’s and our own heritage and took a trip to

the Build a Bear workshop on Tuesday 8th October. They started by

reading the book Paddington Bear and went on to look at how biog-

raphies are written, in preparation for writing their own. They looked

at William Herschel’s biography, who is a key figure in Slough’s herit-

age. In Science they explored which materials would absorb water

after their bear had a bath.

SAFETY IN THE PLAY-

GROUND

Can we please remind parents that the climbing frames in the KS1 playground are not to be

used by children in the morning and after school. This is for the

health and safety of the chil-dren. The same also applies for

bikes and scooters, these are not to be rode around the KS1 play-

ground. Thank you for your cooperation.

YEAR 3

On Monday 14th October Year 3 had a visit from an ancient technolo-

gy expert. They got to explore what is was like living in a roundhouse,

what you would wear, what you ate and also how they lived. They ex-

plored the school’s roundhouse, situated at the back of the field. They

looked at the materials used and they each had a go at getting messy

and covering the walls with a mixture of clay, water and straw to rep-

licate ‘Cob’ that was used at the time.

YEAR 4

On Thursday 17th October Year 4 visited the Bignor Roman Villa site

in West Sussex. They all had a fantastic time exploring the remains of

a mosaic floor that archaeologists uncovered on the site. The children

then took part in various activities where they had a go at making

their own mosaics and drawing on replica wax tablets. They also be-

came archaeologists for the day exploring different roman artefacts,

drawing what they had found and looking at what different natural

objects look like when they have been buried for 100s of years.

AFTER SCHOOL

We have had some feedback regarding the collection of chil-dren from the back of the school

site. We would like to thank those who brought it to our

attention and want to say it is something we are aware of. The proposal to move the collection

to the back of the school has meant that the end of day proce-

dure has become much more efficient however, the extra

volume of foot traffic has meant that it can become quite con-

gested on the small footpath at the back. We are currently

working on some effective long term solutions to resolve this.

We thank you for your patience and your ongoing support re-

garding this matter

YEAR 5

Year 5’s topic this term is ‘All About Clothes’. All of Year 5 took a trip

on Tuesday 17th September to Twickenham Stadium. They had a

chance to explore different materials that are used in sports kits and

also had a chance to try on some kits. As part of their project they will

also get to design the schools sports kit and sew together a prototype

too!

YEAR 6

Year 6 have been looking at the topic World War 2 throughout all their subjects. In English they have been reading the book Goodnight Mr Tom and have had a go at writing a letter as if they were an evacu-ee. In Art they have looked at the artist Lowery’s work and have imi-tated some of his artistic style in their own pieces.

UNIFORM ISSUES

We are currently having a few problems with uniform going missing within school. There

have been a number of parents who have labelled their chil-

dren’s uniform clearly and yet it has gone missing without a

trace. We are urging all parent’s to please check the uniform that your child brings home to make sure it has no-one else’s name

on it.

HALF TERM HOMEWORK

For your half term homework this October, we would love to see a piece of work about Why I Love My School - The Langley Heritage Primary. It could be a piece of art such as a painting, drawing or col-lage, a poem, a story or even a short film. The best will be displayed throughout the school and a winner from each year group will receive a prize for their work. To help start you off we have also attached a template that you can use with this month’s newsletter. All entries must be in by the 15th of November.

FREE FAMILY COACH TO LONDON

We are pleased to be running our annual Free Family Coach to Lon-

don where you will be given the opportunity to explore some of Lon-

don's exciting museums. This year we have decided that for ease, our

coach will leave from The Langley Heritage Primary and will alight at

Exhibition Road in London, home of some amazing free museums.

This opportunity is for families to explore and enjoy some of London's

museums together. The number of seats is limited. Please see our ad-

ditional letter that has gone home today and simply fill in the form

and bring back the letter and the team at TLHP will confirm whether

you have been allocated a space for the trip.
