Heritage Happening March 2018 HPCA Board Meeting No Meeting in March Note from the President Hang on, in about four weeks it will be Spring. Even with the frigid weather, snow, and freezing rains, we did a lot better than people in other parts of the country. We are fortunate to have a very active Clubhouse with a diversity of daily activities. Our commercial cleaning contract is for Monday and Friday nights from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm. Please make sure the cleaning crew is able to get into all rooms for cleaning. We have requested they start at 6:00 pm in the card room and then clean the main dining room. This might mean you have to start your event a few minutes later to accommodate this necessity. The Clubhouse is for the use of all our residents and occasion- ally an event will be scheduled that conflicts with a scheduled activity. Examples might be a holiday event or an event with guest speakers who can only participate on a certain date. The social committee works very hard to ensure we have as many successful events as possible each month. They will advise the other group of any changes as soon as possible. The chairperson of the group being requested to move, has the option to reschedule their activity for another date and time. Your flexibility and understanding are appreciated. Please remember our committees are staffed by volunteers and we should respect the work they do. The retaining walls and paving of the walkway around the big pond should be completed by the end of March. The work around the Serenity pond has already started and we hope to have that completed in the same time frame. A stroll around the pond not only will help you physically, but it’s mentally relaxing to get out and enjoy nature. March

Note from the President

Hang on, in about four weeks it will be Spring.

The Clubhouse is for the use of all our residents and occasion-ally an event will be scheduled that conflicts with a scheduled activity.

The Board appreciates input from residents and hopes attend-ance at monthly meetings will increase. It is better to be part of the solution, than be frustrated by the problem.

Clubhouse Notice

Please remember if you are using any supplies from Heritage Pines for an event, to please return those items to where you found them. Upstairs in the supply room things are thrown around or just left on the floor. The Social Committee has no budget to replace missing or damaged items which result in having to raise costs for events. No one is to throw out anything in the bins without checking with the Social Committee first. As we’re preparing for the Chinese New Year party, we went to check our supplies and discovered that someone had taken it upon themselves to move our items into a different bin. Items were damaged and lost quite a few of our decorations. As no one wants to have costs increase, please be respectful of our property and return items to where they belong.

Please Note: Remember to turn your clocks forward one hour when you go to bed on Saturday night, March 10. Daylight savings time starts on Sunday, March 11. The special fertilizer BrightView will be applying in April (granular) will only be effective if you water your lawn. The office will be closed Friday, March 30 in observance of Good Friday.

Did you know???

Sewer caps in your yard can be lowered so they do not present a problem for the mowers.

The Town of Cary provides this service free if you make the request. The number to call is (919) 469-4090.

Fertilizers and pre-emergent/post-emergent chemicals will be both granular and liquid. These will be applied according to the following schedule:

February Pre-emergent, post- emergent, fertilizer (sprayed)

April Pre-emergent and fertilizer( granular)

May Noxious weed post-emergent, Gator 350 fertilizer

June Noxious weed post-emergent, Gator 350 fertilizer July Noxious weed post-emergent, Gator 350 fertilizer August Noxious weed post-emergent, Gator 350 fertilizer, as well as spraying Bahia grass to kill before-reseeding September Aeration, Over-seeding, fertilizer November Fertilizer The goal for the new weed control is to attack the following weeds: nutsedge, chamber bitter, and Virginia buttonweed. While not completely eradi-cating these weeds, we expect an 80% improve-ment over previous years. As always, all chemicals used are EPA-approved and applied in a manner consistent with manufac-turers’ directions. All products are chosen with concern for environmental impact. NOTE: Improvement will ONLY be seen when residents assist in the process by providing irrigation as needed. REMEMBER…..too much water is often worse than no water! LEARN HOW TO IRRIGATE YOUR YARD RE-SPONSIBLY…whether by use of a system or by hand/sprinkler application. In this respect, we urge you to honestly and thor-oughly complete and return the Irrigation Ques-tionnaire enclosed in this newsletter.

Wishes for a happy and green 2018.

Your Grounds Committee

Grounds Committee Report

WATCH for UNSOLICITED offers through the mail for help “making your lawn the best on the block”. If you have “opted in” for the land-scape services, remember YOU HAVE AL-READY PAID FOR THIS SERVICE.

The services offered: Fertilization, seeding and lawn/shrub maintenance are included in our contract. Excess use of these service does harm to lawns.

SHAPING, by selective pruning of crepe myrtles, was successfully completed. Remem-ber, for trees higher than 12 feet, maintenance is the individual homeowners’ responsibility. (See Brickman Pruning Standards, Heritage Pines Rules and Regulations December 2013.) Rejuvenative pruning of shrubs began in early February- for those homeowners who request-ed this cost free service. Mowing of residential lawns will resume in mid-March, but weather-as always-will play a factor in the timing.

If you have not returned the Questionnaire on Sprinkler Systems included in last month’s newsletter, PLEASE do so as soon as possible. It is important that you return the form even if you do not have a sprinkler system. Remember to be cautious during inclement

weather.

The Grounds Committee

Turf & Weed Maintenance

Program for 2018

With the financial support of the Heritage Pines Board of Directors, the Grounds Committee is pleased to announce a new and improved turf/weed maintenance program for 2018. The aim is to utilize enhanced fertilizer and pre/post emergent chemicals to enhance the health of our turf and eliminate many of the weeds which previously have not been treated due to the expense of the chemicals involved.

Social Committee News

Several people have inquired about the Reserved signs used at tables during an event. These tables are being reserved for the committee members of the event. Committee members volunteer their time to “work” an event and they are the last ones to be seated before the event begins. Their seats need to be near one of the doors, as they are in and out of the room during the event and are working together to help the event be successful. If their spouse or a guest has come to the event with them, they will also be seated at the reserved table. Other reasons a table might be reserved is for a speaker’s table or for program participants. If you are attending an event, please remember to ask a new neighbor to join you and invite others to sit at your table. Be sure to show those who are attending an event that Heritage Pines is a fun and friendly place to live! SAVE THE DATE…You will want to sign up your grandchildren to come to the Spring Fling on Saturday, March 24. There will be lots of activities to welcome the spring season and the Easter Bunny will be there! Saturday, April 21 the Heritage Pines Players will present Mystery Theatre 2018. You will not want to miss this exciting and fun production in honor of our past director, Walt Ramsey. Be sure to save the date for an evening of fun and intrigue! IN CASE YOU MISSED IT…. Whether you

were a winner or a loser at the January

Bingo Bash, everyone had a good time!

There was lots of laughing, good food and

fellowship. Thank you to the chairpersons

and committee for a good time!
