Kirklees Collections Out and AboutHave you spotted our Museum in a Tent with its vibrant design, exciting collections and family friendly activities? Catch it popping up at events throughout Kirklees.

If you’ve travelled via Huddersfield Railway Station you may have seen our exhibition ‘Made in Huddersfield’ in the waiting rooms. By popular demand, we’ll be back with new ‘Along the Lines’ displays, showcasing objects from places en route through Kirklees!

Our magnificent painting ‘Figure Study II’ by Francis Bacon is also out and about at Edinburgh’s Scottish National Gallery of Modern Art. Exhibited alongside its companion piece ‘Figure Study I’, this has been a rare opportunity to show the two paintings side by side.

Open for Business! Autumn and Winter Opening TimesThe seasons are changing and so are we! Our seasonal opening hours change from 2 September – details on the back page. During the times we are closed to the public, we are available for group, school, wedding and room bookings so there are still lots of opportunities to visit.

Explore the world at Bagshaw Museum, housed in a magnificent Victorian Gothic former mill owner’s house set in 36 acres of parkland and ancient woodland.

Discover unusual and exciting collections from around the globe including world class Egyptology collections in an atmospheric gallery where dramatic lighting helps to recreate the interior of a tomb, the ‘Spirit of South Asia’ and the African gallery, where you can make traditional African music.

Bagshaw Museum showcases stories about iconic institutions such as Fox’s Biscuits and Batley Variety Club. You can perform your own Punch and Judy show at the Victorian seaside.

The museum is set in the award winning Wilton Park, with woodland and lakeside walks, children’s play area and café.

Oakwell HallOakwell Hall Country Park

Oakwell Hall is a Grade I Listed Elizabethan manor house, furnished as a family home of the 1690s. It offers visitors a real insight into a post-English Civil War household. History comes to life as you explore the fine period rooms in a building surprisingly unchanged in over 400 years. Follow in the footrsteps of Charlotte Brontë, who based Fieldhead in her novel Shirley on Oakwell Hall.

There are also over 100 acres of Green Flag Award Winning Country Park to explore, with award winning period gardens, a nature trail, adventure playground and picnic areas. Round off your trip with a visit to the gift shop selling a range of souvenirs or call into the café for lunch or light refreshments.

World class collections paint a vivid and intriguing picture of the local area and people. You will find amazing objects charting history from earliest settlers to the boom in the textile industry and modern day collections from local people. These include historic vehicles, objects from the Luddite rebellion and the new Mines, Minerals and Monsters exhibition with beautiful minerals, ancient plant fossils and the remains of marine reptiles.

Learn about the story of nearby Castle Hill and the growth of Huddersfield in the Ramsden Gallery. Hear the poignant story of the Tolson brothers, the profound effect the First World War had on the family and the history of the museum itself.

INKERS Until 29 OctoberINKERS was set up in April 2000 by printmakers using the facilities at West Yorkshire Print Workshop, Mirfield. The group includes a number of award winning printmakers. All of the artworks are for sale.

Castle Hill & Victoria Tower

Now a Scheduled Ancient Monument, the history of human activity on Castle Hill goes back over 4000 years. The site was developed as an Iron Age hill fort, surrounded by defensive ditches and ramparts. In the Middle Ages there was a castle on the hill, of which the well remains. The present tower was built to commemorate Queen Victoria’s Diamond Jubilee of 1897.

It is suitable for everyone and the loan of Nordic poles is free for each walker. Join us at Castle Hill every month.

For all the walks you will need good footwear, warm clothing & waterproofs. There will be some slopes, rough terrain and a number of step-over stiles on all the walks. Meet on the top car park on Castle Hill. Sorry, no dogs except assistance dogs. All children must be accompanied. Booking is essential. Amy-Jane Blackhall: Everyone is a Moon 21 October to 13 January 2018This exhibition showcases the work of Amy-Jane Blackhall, winner of the West Yorkshire Print Workshop’s Flourish Award for Excellence in Printmaking in 2016.

Olivia Hemingway: Home 27 Jan to 21 April 2018From portraits of actors Jodie Whittaker (pictured), Sir Patrick Stewart and Lena Headey, photographed in the artist’s home town of Huddersfield, to a series of everyday moments captured in people’s homes and detailed images of objects that reveal personal stories.

New Light Prize Exhibition 10 March to 2 June 2018Open to all artists who were born, studied or reside in the North of England, the biennial New Light Prize Exhibition is the largest open prize dedicated to Northern art. Come and see the best art being produced in the region today.

Huddersfield Contemporary Music Festival: PRES@60 17 November to 10 FebruaryPRES (Polish Radio Experimental Studio) is an institution oriented towards audio-visual experimentation. Influenced by visual arts and happenings, artists and composers managed to establish a new language, open to the listener’s interpretation.

PRES@60 is curated by Michał Libera, Michał Mendyk and Daniel Muzyczuk and co-financed by the Adam Mickiewicz Institute

Huddersfield Contemporary Music Festival: Małe Instrumenty plays PRES Monday 20 November 1pmFeaturing the most legendary Polish electronic piece of music, Study on One Cymbal Stroke by Włodzimierz Kotonski, realised by PRES in 1957, performed live on toy and self-made instruments by Polish explorers and constructors of Małe Instrumenty.
