1. To make the sides of the barn, cut two pieces of red felt in half, creating four 6˝ x 9˝ pieces. Then, cut two 5 ½˝ x 8 ½˝ pieces of both fusible web and craft stabilizer. 3. Follow manufacturer’s directions for fusible web and stabilizer. Now, iron 5 ½˝ x 8 ½˝ piece of fusible web to 5 ½˝ x 8 ½˝ piece of stabilizer creating one piece. Repeat.

4. Now, insert stabilizer web between all the felt pieces for the front, back and sides of barn, as shown.

5. Repeat step 3 and iron between two 6˝ x 12˝ pieces of felt to create the bottom of barn.

6. Repeat process, using 8 ½˝ x 11 ½˝ pieces of fusible web and stabilizer and 9˝ x 12˝ felt squares to create the front and back of the barn.

7. Sew front and back to sides, using a ¼˝ seam allowance. Seams should be inside the base.

8. Pin bottom of barn in place, as shown.

9. Sew bottom of barn to sides, front and back. 10. Turn right side out.

11. To attach grommets to sides of barn, mark fabric approximately ¾˝ from top on each side and centered from side to side. Then cut a small hole at each mark. Set grommets according to manufacturer’s directions.

12. Knot together four 10˝ pieces of twine or rope, as shown. Do this for each side of the barn.

13. Thread twine or rope through each grommet from inside of barn, as shown.

Prep for front and back of roof base: Cut four 6˝ x 12˝ pieces of black felt, two 5 ½˝ x 11 ½˝ pieces of stabilizer and two 5 ½˝ x 11 ½˝ pieces of fusible web.

Prep for sides of roof base: Cut four pieces of black felt into a trapezoid shape, measuring 3˝ across top, 6˝ on each side and 7˝ across bottom. Then, cut two pieces of stabilizer and two pieces of fusible web into the same shape, measuring 2 ½˝ across top, 5 ½˝ on each side and 6 ½˝ across bottom. Use same technique as making the base.

15. Center fusible web and stabilizer on side piece. Iron. Repeat for front and back of roof.

14. For sides of barn roof, iron fusible web to stabilizer. Repeat for front and back of roof.

16. Sew sides of roof on 7˝ sides, with right sides together, using ¼˝ seam allowance.

17. Sew front and back of roof on one 12˝ side, with right sides together, using ¼˝ seam allowance.

18. Sew side to front piece, with seams inside.

19. Sew side to back piece, with seams inside.

20. Sew ends together as shown. 21. On 12˝ sides, fold edges of red felt to meet in the center.

Prep handle: Cut one 4˝ x 12˝ piece of felt.

22. Now, fold in half to create a 1˝ strip, as shown.

23. Pin folds in place to secure. 24. Machine stitch around edges to finish.

Prep for roof: Cut two 3˝ x 12˝ pieces of black felt, one 2 ½˝ x 11 ½˝ piece of stabilizer and one 2 ½˝ x 11 ½˝ piece of fusible web.

25. Iron fusible web to stabilizer. Then center on 3˝ x 12˝ piece of felt. Iron.

26. With wrong sides together, pin together sides of roof.

27. Sew handle to roof, centering 2˝ from the edge.

28. Pin roof to front, back and sides. Sew together, with seams on inside. Turn right side out.

29. Follow the manufacturer’s directions to attach grommets to each side of roof, approximately ¾˝ from bottom edge.

30. Tie roof to base, as shown. 31. Cut out the embellishment templates provided and trace onto felt.

now, add the details!

32. Cut out patterns from felt. 33. Add decorative stitching.

36. Cut out the animal templates provided and trace onto felt (two felt shapes per animal for front and back), fusible web and stabilizer.

37. Cut out animals.

38. Iron fusible web to stabilizer. Then, iron stabilizer to one side, as shown.

39. Pin both felt pieces together.

40. Machine-stitch sides together. 41. Adhere details with felt glue to make animals come to life!

42. Iron fusible web to stabilizer. Then, iron to felt as shown.

Prep for animal stands: For each, cut one 3˝x 3½˝ piece of felt, one 3˝ x 3˝ piece of fusible web and one 3˝ x 3˝ piece of stabilizer.

43. On 3½˝ side, fold in edges to center. 44. Pin in place.

45. Machine stitch around outside edge on all sides.

46. Using rotary cutter or craft knife, carefully cut a slit down center as shown. Slit should be slightly longer than width of animal’s legs.

47. Sew both sides of slit, as shown, securing an opening to accommodate the animal’s legs.

48. Fold in half, and insert animal’s legs.

49. Repeat for each animal, using coordinating felt.

From cows to horses to cute little piggies, this little herd of barnyard animals makes for perfect play on a rainy day!
