“One of the main points about travelling is to develop in us a feeling of solidarity of that oneness without which no better world is possible “

Summer vacations are some of the fondest memories that we have as students. There are some teenagers who like that fact that there is no school and like to stay and sleep in late. This is a typical teenager’s summer of fun; a time to relax and not worry about a single thing. We started our journey on 13th of June and after six hours of travelling by bus which was very enjoyable we reached our destination Hatu. Trip to USA

It was the day when I could feel my dreams coming true when I landed at Newark Airport on 5th June 2012 accompanied by four students and a teacher. Mr. Chad Murray, our guide, met us at the airport and took us straight away to the Time Square which is the busiest and beautiful place in New York. Here in this part of the city you can feel the cosmopolitan nature of the city.

Visiting the Head Quarters of the United Nations was an experience. We gained firsthand knowledge about American history after visiting the National History Museum. We landed at the Empire State Building which has eighty-eight floors and the view from the eight-eighth floor of the Hudson river and skyscrapers is breath taking.

Our next destination was Ellis Island a place where the immigrants came to America from all over the world. The old artefacts and records of the immigrants is kept in the museum of the Island .I was mesmerised by the huge Statue of Liberty which was designed by Gustave Eiffel who designed Eiffel Tower.

After a long journey we landed to see the most beautiful Niagara Falls and also had the opportunity to ride in the ferry ‘The Maid of the Mist’ . In the city of Philadelphia we visited the

Independence Hall and the United States Mint was quiet educational as we came to know how coins are minted. The tour of the city was rounded off with the visit to the Wharton School which is an undergraduate business school of the Ivy League.

Our next destination was Washington DC where we visited US Capitol, Supreme Court ,Lincoln Memorial and Madam Tussauds Museum.

From Newark Airport we flew to the state of Florida and stayed at Orlando. We visited almost all the theme parks, Magic Kingdom, Hollywood Studio, Universal Studio and Epcot. At Disney World we had an educational tour behind the scenes to understand how sound and other special effects are created. At Water Kingdom we saw some fine performances at the Dolphin show, Shamu show etc. We also witnessed some amazing fireworks at Epcot. Finally at NASA, Kennedy Space Centre we got to see launch pads for space shuttle and also a replica of Apollo 11 Moon Mission. On the whole, the trip to the US was the best experience of my life.

SCIENCE EXHIBITION

The purpose of the science exhibition is to develop scientific attitude in the young generation of our country to make them realize the interdependence of science, technology and society and the responsibility of the scientists of tomorrow. The budding scientists of our school presented many creative ideas as exhibits. We were able to see young Faradays, Newtons and Edisons among them. The Exhibits were creative and attractive and some were marvellous. Our school organises a science exhibition every year. It was held on 24th, 25th and 27th August. The exhibition had three sections – Physics, Chemistry and Biology. Our Principal, Rosa Ma’am judged the exhibition and appreciated the efforts of the students. In the Physics section, the model of a helicopter won the first prize ‘The Chain Reaction of Uranium’ bagged the first prize in Chemistry section and the model of ‘Human Heart’ was declared the winner in Biology section. On the second day, parents were invited to view the exhibition. Experience in India

First of all, I want to introduce myself. My name is Eva, I’m 15 years old, my home country is Austria. I’m here for a school exchange for nine months. As you can imagine, I was very nervous when I entered the plane which would bring me to India the first time. India is a land so totally different from all other places in the world, I had no idea what was waiting for me. But everybody here is so friendly and kind, I can surely say India is my second home country, although I have been here for not a month yet. Things which may seem normal for you are a new experience for me; your daily routine is my daily adventure. One of the best moments every day is coming to school by bus. The Indian street life is far more thrilling than in Austria. Seeing animals on the street and watching people are an experience in itself.

I’m leaning Punjabi and I sound very funny every time I try to pronounce Punjabi words. Now one of the things India is famous for is food. I have tried Indian food before but it’s totally different from what I had expected. It’s even better! I am also astonished by those many different festivals in India. Every week there’s something to celebrate. I enjoyed the festival of rakhi with my host family. Before I came to India, I was a little bit worried about the climate. But I got used to it surprisingly fast. Finally I want to say thank you to every one for making this exchange an unforgettable experience- especially my host family. Through them I get to know how Indian people live and think. Eva Reidlsperger It’s been almost a month in India and I must say it has been great. Everything is so different and also so similar. I love my family and my school, although some students are exactly nice but it doesn’t matter. I’m starting to feel better here far away from the big cities and technology. Because of that now I can do other things rather than spending 5 hours on the computer. People here are more connected to themselves

than in my country. I’m having Sitar and Hindi lessons. Every time I think that I may be one of the few Mexicans that know how to play Sitar and speak Hindi it makes me feel even better. I miss my home and my friends but it’s going to be a long time before I see them again, so I will try to get busy so I don’t notice it. I don’t know what will come in the future but you know tomorrow never knows. And the best part is that I can never tell how a day will be in the life here.

MUN

BVC MUN

The Model of the United Nations conference is a simulation of the real United Nations where each school represents a foreign country and each student is a delegate. It gives the students an opportunity to develop critical thinking, understand international challenges, contribute to its effective solution, in an attempt to usher in a new world order and to focus attention on the preservation of environment and of human rights.

BVCMUN’12, took off on a zealous note, unfolding a wide spectrum of riveting events. I , along with SIX other students from the school, participated in this great learning convention. All delegates presented themselves as active and responsible citizens of the global community. I will never forget this amazing experience and I recommend everyone to participate in it if they get a chance. In a nutshell, MUN was a wonderful experience! Unforgettable indeed! Looking forward to the next MUN.

A Visit to the Botanical Garden

Recently our school organized a visit to The Botanical Garden and Museum & Art Gallery at the Punjabi University campus as the part of our SUPW activity. We arrived there at ten o’ clock in the morning. First we all lined up and explored the dome shaped Art Gallery. Each corner of the gallery showcased rich Punjabi culture. The Sculpture Park around the building adds glory to the Art Gallery. Then we went to a beautiful botanical garden there we saw the

tropical forest arrangement in a separate enclosure It was like a roller coaster, something new at every turn. There was also a cactus house where different species of cacti were planted. Some were very beautiful. It is very difficult to describe something beautiful so we leave you here with your imagination and sincerely hope you pay a visit.

Report on The British Co-Ed High School’s shared partnership with Hatch End High School, Harrow London Ms Kiran Harika and Ms Bhalwinder Kaur, senior staff members, went to Hatch End High School, Harrow, London to share projects and interact on a global level. The shared projects were under the banner of: ‘Solutions to sustainable living from examples of our heritage’ a) Looking at the Mughal system of baolis and their relevance to the present day b) The Green School. The Hatch End students were fascinated by the lesson -Introduction to Medieval history (the Mughal period) and modern Indian history (the partition of India)

Students were extremely pleased to interact and gain firsthand knowledge about Indian history from an Indian teacher. One student suggested that they should have more guest teachers from India to share views and ideas. Mr P. Richards, Assistant Head teacher, shared information on motivational workshops for the students. It was also interesting to know that for community service the students of Hatch End school visit old age homes , orphanages which we at The British Coed school lay a lot of emphasis on. It was an enriching experience as we got firsthand knowledge about the British education system which will help us to improve our teaching, mindset and attitude. At the same time as the visit to Hatch End by High school staff, four teachers from the Junior school, Ms. Manpreet, Ms. Jaspreet, Ms. Jeetinder and Ms. Tina visited and interacted with Staff and students at Our Lady of Peace Junior School, Slough with a view to improving and enriching our respective curricula and starting teacher exchanges.

Book review- The Last Song

The word that strikes my mind when I describe the story of “The Last Song” by Nicholas Sparks is ‘beautiful’. My eyes glittered with tears of sorrow and joy as I flipped through the last pages. After reading the book, I had a satisfying smile on my face admist all the tears. The story takes you on a roller coaster ride of different emotions and appeals to all the senses. The novel,in a very wizard manner, touches the aspects of almost all the important relations in one’s life: parent-children, brother-sister and friendship in general.

It is a story about a seventeen year old, rebellious, Ronnie Miller, who resents her parents after their messy divorce. She is forced to spend her summer with her father, with whom she has not spoken for three years, on Wrightsville Beach. She has even given up the common hobby that always united her with her father-playing the piano. Initially she dreaded the summer but in the end, gave her an opportunity to know about love, family and faith. What the book unfolds is a treasure to behold!
