This is why Every Heart Matters Age is a risk factor for developing heart

disease. The population of over 80s in west Suffolk is predicted to

double over the next 20 years (2017-2037).

Heart disease is the single biggest killer in the UK, and worldwide.

On average one person dies every three minutes from heart and vascular disease.

Heart disease kills more than twice as many women in the

UK as breast cancer.

Why does West Suffolk Hospital need a new

cardiac diagnostic unit?Currently a proportion of patients with heart

conditions in west Suffolk have to be treated elsewhere for a range of cardiac services that are not

available at West Suffolk Hospital.

The West Suffolk NHS Foundation Trust is investing £5.2m in developing a state of the art cardiac suite to transform and improve the care cardiology patients will receive at the Trust.

The Every Heart Matters appeal needs to raise £500,000 to support the build of a new cardiac diagnostic unit alongside the cardiac suite to create a fully integrated cardiac centre that will enhance treatment for all cardiac patients.

Diagnostic tests like electrocardiograms (ECGs), echocardiograms, and stress tests are currently conducted two floors above the hospital’s cardiac unit. A new cardiac diagnostic unit alongside the cardiac suite will allow these tests and checks to happen all in one place. This means patients do not need to visit other departments or repeatedly dress and undress for tests and scans, making their experience more comfortable.

What will the new unit look like?

How can I support the appeal?A new fully-integrated cardiac centre will transform and improve the cardiac care and treatment available to the west Suffolk community.

You may know someone who has been affected by heart health issues, or perhaps have experience yourself, and know the importance of safe, efficient and quality treatment.

Make sure that Every Heart Matters; this is your opportunity to play a part in building a lasting legacy at your local hospital, and help create a brand new cardiac diagnostic unit for the west Suffolk community.

Appeal ambassador, Frankie Dettori, Every Heart Matters appeal ambassador Renowned Newmarket jockey and celebrity, Frankie Dettori, believes in the importance of heart health awareness and the services available to the local community:

“I have lived in Newmarket for the last 31 years, and consider myself to be a Suffolk local. The Every Heart Matters appeal is very close to my heart, and is about supporting a service local to my family and I. This is the biggest appeal that My WiSH Charity has taken on, so I hope as many people as possible will support this great new facility in our community’s hospital, and make the dream a reality.”

“The fully integrated cardiac centre will unite all cardiac care at West Suffolk

Hospital into one location; ensuring patient care is delivered jointly with cardiologists and diagnostics working together in one

specialist area. Relocating the diagnostic unit will also free up valuable clinical space in the main hospital, creating further opportunities for development and improved patient care.”

Phil Bailey, cardiac patient, can’t fault the care he receives at

West Suffolk NHS Foundation Trust:

“Ever since I set foot in West Suffolk Hospital I have felt safe and cared for.

You’re treated like an individual - not just another patient. I have always been active

and thought I was fairly healthy, so it was a shock to be diagnosed with a heart problem. The cardiac

team have supported me to cope, both mentally and physically, which is

why I’m supporting this wonderful appeal.”
