Thursday- free write
For this week’s writing task we would like you to write a set of instructions on how to keep teeth healthy.
Before you start, please complete the third STAR learning activity.
Please remember the grammar focus for this week - imperative verbs. We want to see you include lots of these in your set of
instructions. You may want to make note of a few imperative verbs that you will include in your instructions. Think about them
carefully! You are giving someone instructions on how to keep their teeth healthy.
A few weeks ago we looked at adverbs. Please remember to include adverbs to show the order of each instruction. You may also use them
to tell someone how to do something.
Friday - life skill
This week we would like you to help change and make your bed. First, you will need to take the current bedding off your bed and put it into the washing basket or washing machine. You will then need to find clean
bedding and make the bed.
Please remember to keep practising how to the tell the time. This is a very important skill! Here is a video explaining how to the tell the time
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QJkYONqIYQM
Here are a couple of games to help you learn to tell the timehttps://mathsframe.co.uk/en/resources/resource/116/telling-the-time
https://mrnussbaum.com/clockworks-online-gameIf you have a clock in your house, look at it throughout the day and tell
an adult the time it shows.

Task 1 - We are continuing our learning on fractions and will be looking at tenths this week.
To begin with, watch the BBC bitesize clip and complete the learning activities. https://www.bbc.co.uk/bitesize/articles/zmcny9q White Rose Maths have also made a video about tenths and counting in tenths https://vimeo.com/418151919 https://vimeo.com/418153490

Task 4 - Finding tenths.
To find one tenth of a number you need to divide the number by 10. Watch this video up until 1 minute50 explaining how to divide a number by 10. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PPMnbH2M0io&t=1s
Remember - when you divide a number by 10, the number gets 10 times smaller. On a place value chart the numbers move 1 space to the right.
1 of 40 = 10
1 of 80 = 10
1 of 90 = 10
1 of 120 = 10
1 of 160 = 10
1 of 250 = 10
1 of 380 = 10
1 of 420 = 10
Please remember to draw a place value chart to help you
Abbie is finding 1 of 10 140. She thinks the answer is 40. Is she correct?
Explain your answer using a place value grid.
Explain how to find 1 of 280 10using a place value chart.
Y3 maths this week
We would like you to complete this weeks set MyMaths task. It is so important that you continue to practise your times tables so
please remember to use Times Table Rockstars and Hit the Button.
Here is the link to week 4 of the Maths Code Hub multiplicative fluency learning.
This week you will be exploring the numbers 18 and 28 and look at their number facts
http://www.codemathshub.org.uk/wp-content/uploads/2020/05/Y3-CODE-Fluency-Week-4-Understanding-18-and-28.pdf
Task 5
STAR learning 1
We would like you to answer the following question to begin this weeks STAR learning:
What do we need to do to keep healthy?
You may want to bullet point your ideas or use a spider diagram.
Eating a balanced diet is important to keep healthy. Do you think pirates were healthy? What did they eat? Have a look at the
following website to help answer the above questions.
https://www.pirateshipvallarta.com/blog/pirate-stories/what-did-pirates-eat-and-drink
Have a look at the eatwell plate on the next slide and explore the
different food groups.
Using the eatwell plate, we would like you to plan a nutritional meal
for pirates on a ship.
Think carefully though. Remember some foods wouldn’t have lasted long on a pirate ship. You may choose to plan a meal for the first night on a pirate ship and a meal for the last night (3
months later).
STAR learning 2
Not eating enough nutritional foods made pirates sick. They could potentially get scurvy if they did not get enough vitamin C. This was a common disease. If people had scurvy they may
have had the following symptoms:
● Teeth may loosen or fall out
● Bleeding from the gums, mouth or nose
● Spots on skin● Painful joints
For this task we would like you to research the following foods to find out if they are a good source of vitamin C. You may choose to cut them out and sort them into 2 groups: good source of vitamin C and not a good source of vitamin C
Looking back at the meal you created yesterday, were the ingredients you used a
good source of vitamin C?
STAR learning 3
Teeth!
What do you already know about teeth?
We have different kinds of teeth and they each have a function. Click on the following links to learn more
https://www.bbc.co.uk/bitesize/topics/z27kng8/articles/zsp76yc https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=b5CPd1_r03s
We would like you to think of a way to share with us what you have learnt about the types of teeth and their functions.
You may choose to: ● Make a model of a mouth using modelling clay and label the
types of teeth, explaining their functions.● Draw your mouth● Make a model using paper● Make up a song
What do we do to keep our teeth clean and healthy?
Make a list of ideas. This will help with your writing
task.
Watch the following video and see if you can add to your list of ideas:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EnhDSkzYI3k
On the next page is a science investigation for you to have
a go at.
Science investigation If you have eggs at home have a go at this investigation. We are going to investigate the impact drinks have on our teeth. If we do not brush our teeth, acid from our drinks will build up and this can cause tooth decay. This is why it is so important to brush our teeth!
The eggshell protects the egg like enamel on our teeth protects the living part.
You will need: 4-6 eggs (depends on the amount of liquid you are testing)Screw top jarsMilk, vinegar, coffee, juice, fizzy drink (liquids to test)Toothpaste
1) Add an egg to each screw top jar. 2) Then add each liquid to a jar - making sure the egg is covered.
3) Leave the eggs for 2-3 days. You may choose to use 2 separate jars and test coffee twice. If so, coat 1 of the eggs
in toothpaste and see if you notice anything different between each egg.
Before you start your investigation remember to make a prediction. Over the 2-3 days keep observing the eggs and record any changes that you notice. After the 2-3 days take the eggs out and look for any changes. What has happened to the eggs? Remember to write a conclusion.
If you don’t want to complete the investigation but want to find out what happens. Watch the following video https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PTvuXomVXR4
