Hello and welcome to the last edition of E-Ngage of 2018, the monthly newsletter to find out what’s going on in Leeds and how you can get involved!
The newsletter will include a wide range of information, once a month, relating to all sorts of different ways for you to be involved, and sometimes just for an update on what's going on.
Following on from feedback from one of the members of the network, please find attached a PDF version of the newsletter in case you are struggling to view the email.
As we move into 2019 we’re looking at reviewing and improving E-Ngage, we’re hoping there will be a fresh look but we want to make sure the content is right too. If you have any suggestions for how to improve the newsletter or if you feel there is anything missing please contact [email protected] or call 0113 843 5470.
Please note you can’t reply to this email directly.
On behalf of the engagement team at the NHS Leeds CCG, we wish you a Happy Holidays, a Merry Christmas, and a Happy New Year. We’ll be back in 2019!
Peer support meetings minutes
Every other month we host peer support sessions across the city.
The sessions give patients interested in improving the NHS the
opportunity to support each other and share good practice.
The final peer support group of 2018 is on Friday 21 December.
Please contact us if you’d like to come along.

Training & peer support calendar
As part of our ongoing evaluation of the training programme we
have decided to pause our delivery of a scheduled training
calendar for at least the first six months of 2019. There are several
reasons for this, including; poor attendance and high cancellation
rates (we’ve cancelled more sessions than ran over the last five
months) as well as ongoing discussions with our partner
organisations about the need to nail down processes and ways of
working going forward.
We’re going to use the ‘fallow’ six month period to evaluate the
engagement hub work and see what it is going to look like with
everything hopefully kicking back into gear by July 2019.
We will still be running the patient reader group and the PPG
Network Support Groups. Keep your eyes peeled for an evaluation
and let us know what you think when the survey goes live!
Leeds PPG Network Support Group
The PPG Network support meetings continue to be well attended
and a source of great discussion and work. The group have worked
hard over the year and in discussions, it has been agreed we need
to plot out our objectives for the year to ensure we’re working
towards our overall aim of improving PPGs across the city.
We are planning to have our next meeting on Thursday 31
January 2019 at the Old Fire Station (LS9 6NL) between 9:30am
and 12:30pm.
We’re using this extended session to explore our aims for the
upcoming year and how we might achieve them. We’re aiming to
use the feedback from the PPG event to help inform what we need
to work on. It’d be great to see you there.
If you have any questions or particular thoughts on what we should
cover on the meeting’s agenda, please do get in touch. If you are
interested in attending the meeting please send an email to
The Big Thank You/Winter Heroes Festive Gathering
Our 'Big Thank You'/'Winter Heroes' campaign aims to celebrate the good work that people in Leeds are doing over the often difficult and busy winter months. The campaign aims to raise awareness of hard working individuals by getting patients/colleagues to 'say thank you'. This can be done in a number of different ways (there'll be a supporting communications campaign to go along with it). We think that this is the perfect thing to find out more about and discuss and work on with a mince pie in hand (of course!). We're hoping you'll be interested in coming along to find out more about the campaign and help us plan how PPGs and volunteers can help support this campaign. The 'Winter Heroes Workshop/Festive Celebration' is booked for Thursday 20 December between 1:30pm - 3:30pm at The Old Fire Station (LS9 6NL).
We'll cover out of pocket travel expenses (such as bus fare and mileage) and we can arrange for taxis for people if they have special requirements. We'll provide some festive treats and drinks too.

NHS Apps Library User Research Study
NHS Digital is seeking feedback on a new NHS service called the NHS Apps Library. This service is designed to help patients and members of the public find apps and digital tools to help manage and improve their health. It currently in beta stage but there are plans to go live in 2019. They are keen to get feedback from patients/carers as your feedback will help improve future iterations of the NHS Apps Library. NHS Digital researchers would like meet with interested participants either individually or via a focus group at a mutually convenient date, time and venue. They can also arrange to do individual sessions remotely as well if that is preferable for interested participants. The interview or focus group sessions are expected to last about 45 minutes.

Assistive Technology Survey
The William Merrit Centre is asking for people’s feedback on assistive technology. The aim is to reduce inequalities enabling more people to access technology and help people better understand what options are available to them if they have a condition that prohibits them from accessing technology. It’d be great if you spend 10 minutes filling in this survey and giving your feedback.

Practice Newsletter - Example
For the first time in quite a few years Grange Medicare at New Cross Surgery have developed a practice newsletter. It has been developed by the practice and members of the patient participation group (PPG). It has reportedly gone down a storm with patients and we asked if we could share it with our CCG Network in case any other PPGs might be considering developing a newsletter. Anne Heeson, a member of the PPG at New Cross Surgery, is happy to be contacted if any PPG members have any questions about developing a practice newsletter. Please drop me an email ([email protected]) and I will put you in touch with Anne.

PPG Funding Opportunity Round 2
You may be aware that applications are now open for the second round of funding for patient participation group (PPG) projects. We successfully funded 11 projects during the last round and these projects are in the process of being established. We’ll hopefully have an update on these soon. Following on from feedback from practices and PPGs, we have extended the deadline for submissions to be Monday 4 February 2019. We’ve already had several applications so far, so we’re excited to see what projects are going to be developed into 2019. There’s still time to express your interest to sit on the PPG Funding panel and help decide which applications will be successful. Just drop me an email ([email protected]).
