Good Friends’ in 2L!
Arcadia Vale Public School were fortunate to visit Healthy Harold a few weeks ago. All 2L students were
enthusiastic during our adventure on the bus out to the Edgeworth Life Education Centre. Once we arrived
the students were eager to meet Healthy Harold and he sure did make us all laugh. The unit topic 2L fo-
cussed on was ‘Good Friends’. We discussed our bodies, healthy eating and how to be a good friend. We
were lucky enough to be provided packets of carrot seeds to bring back to school to grow. Mrs Amy Ferguson
joined us out in the garden to plant our carrot seeds. She also told us that the best carrots she has ever eat-
en were grown in our school garden planter boxes. We can’t wait to watch our carrots grow and hopefully be
able to make something delicious with them in class.

Swimming Carnival
Last week we celebrated our amazing swimmers, congratulations to all of the students who received ribbons and to our age champions Joseph, Esha, Amber and Yarraan. I would also like to thank Joseph, Amber and Rory who represented our school with pride at the Zone Swimming Carnival.

Lining Up
Our lining up winners in week 4 were 5/6H. Terrific role modelling again by our senior students!
Our week 5 winners were 2L. Their lines were excellent after each break and they showed respect to the
teacher talking out the front immediately.
I have set a challenge for all of the students to have a hat on their heads every day! Our uniforms are
looking fantastic but we just need all students wearing their hat daily!
Planned Maintenance at AVPS
The planned maintenance at AVPS is still going. It is expected to be finished by
Monday 11th March. We appreciate your flexibility and cooperation during this
time.
Meet and Greet
Thank you to all of those parents and carers who could attend our Parent Infor-
mation session last Monday evening. It is always great to see the teachers and parents talking and work-
ing together to support their child’s learning. Thanks to Graeme for cooking a fantastic BBQ for everyone!
If you need to contact your child’s teacher at any time, please do so through the office and they will
make a time to accommodate you. Thank you to Rathmines Butchery for supplying the delicious sausag-
es for this event!
Big Assembly
Our first Big Assembly on 2019 is on Friday 8th March. The assembly will be held on the basketball court
commencing at 9.30am. We look forward to seeing you all for this special occasion.
Arcadia Vale PS Blazers
The school will be purchasing blazers for our students to wear when they attend such events as Public
Speaking, ANZAC day march, special assemblies just to name a few. We would like to thank the fantastic
work of our Uniform Coordinator, Emily Milekovic who has worked on these blazers for a long period of
time now.
To support with the purchasing of these new blazers for our students, Rose Sillett, one of our parents,
will be coordinating a Tupperware fundraiser where the school will receive 10% of total sales and $20
per party demo booking that is held within 21 days of the school closing date of 26th March 2019.

Clean Up Arcadia Vale Day!
Last Friday, the students and teachers at AVPS worked together to clean up rubbish around our school.
We filled up ten garbage bags! It is good to have all of that rubbish now in the bin instead of floating
around the school or ending up in our waterways. Let’s all work together to Reduce, Reuse and Recycle
to minimise the amount of rubbish we produce and have a tidier school, town and planet!

AVPS Information Head lice
We have had a report of head lice within our school. Outbreaks of head lice are common, particularly in pri-mary schools. NSW Health recommends students continue to attend school.
As infestations are particularly common in primary schools, it is best to choose a treatment that can be used over time. There is no single solution to eradication, only persistence.
regularly check your children's hair teach older children to check their own hair tie back and braid long hair keep a fine tooth head lice comb in the bathroom and encourage all family members to use it when they
wash their hair. https://www.health.nsw.gov.au/environment/headlice/pages/default.aspx
