August 2015 Working with you to shape health and social care in Norfolk around your needs. Two new Healthwatch Norfolk reports We have just published two reports on the health and wellbeing of children, young people and families in Norfolk. The reports are the product of a period of intense work by the engagement team and emphasise our commitment to working with and on behalf of all the population of the county. We will be taking forward the recommendations made in both of the reports as well as working on an ongoing basis to understand the health and wellbeing needs of children and young people. Keep an eye on future newsletters and our website for updates on our progress. There is a brief description of the two reports below and links to where they can be downloaded from our website. The Annual General Meeting (see below) on 21 September will also include information about these reports. Report on the health and wellbeing needs of children and young people in Norfolk This report captures the work carried out by Healthwatch Norfolk in the period from October 2014 to June 2015. In this period we engaged with over 3,700 children, young people and parents to understand more about their attitudes to health and wellbeing and their experiences of local health and social care services. We worked in partnership with schools, children’s centres, youth provision and other voluntary organisations to conduct a range of surveys, focus group-type discussions and other engagement. The report makes a series of recommendations both for commissioners and providers of services and for further work by Healthwatch Norfolk. Read the report on our website

Report on looked after and adopted children, young people and families This Healthwatch Norfolk report looks at the health and wellbeing needs of looked after and adopted children, young people and of adoptive families. These are a group who consistently experience some of the worst outcomes when compared to their peers. The report follows an extensive engagement process which has allowed us to gain a deep insight into some of the issues facing children and young people who have been through the care system and those giving them permanent homes. The report is divided into three main sections: Part 1 – The voice of looked after children and young people in care Part 2 – Children with disabilities and additional needs in the care system – the foster carers’ perspective Part 3 – Meeting the needs of adopted children and their families. The report makes a series of challenging recommendations for national and local commissioners and providers as well as for further work by Healthwatch Norfolk.
