Tulare Regional Medical Center New In-Patient Tower 2Tulare, CA

BFL Owen, teamed with Kluger Architects, is providing structural design and construction support services for the new Tower 2 project at TRMC. Tower-2 is a 4-story steel structure with metal deck and topping concrete. Lateral system includes SMRF and SCBF. The main lobby includes an open 3-story tall atrium. The foundation system includes isolated pads and CIPBH piles.

Vista Hospital Psychiatric to Medical Surgery Wing ProjectBaldwin Park, CA

The Vista Hospital Psychiatric to Medical Surgery Wing is a multi-service clinic, of approximately 7,891 gross square feet (gsf). It is a one-story building, located at 14148 Francisquito Avenue in Baldwin Park, CA. The existing, single-story, wood frame structure is being upgraded to an OSHPD 1 facility under this project. The renovation accommodates 20 beds.

Olive View / UCLA Medical CenterLos Angeles, CA

The project consisted of the expansion of the existing Olive View / UCLA Medical Center in Sylmar, California. The project included replacing the existing Emergency Department that is inadequate to service the needs of the County. Also, a new Acute Care ward was constructed to provide the services needed for drug-resistant tuberculosis patients and those under detention orders, and will include the proposed bioterrorism response unit that would serve the County in the event of an outbreak of a deadly biological substance. The new single-story buildings are located adjacent to the entrance of the existing emergency room, and are designed in full compliance with (OSHPD). The project is a 32,000 square foot hospital building with up to 20-bed capacity. In addition, there is a 10,000 square foot Acute Care facility with up to 10-bed capacity.

UC Irvine Hewitt Hall Medical Research Facility and BSL-3 LaboratoryIrvine, CA

BFL Owen is the Structural Engineer of Record on this design/build, with Hensel Phelps Construction and Carrier Johnson Architects. Hewitt Hall is a 76,905 gsf new laboratory building, which consists of a 3 story building with a basement. This project received the award for 2008 Outstanding Building - Post Secondary Division, American School & University, Architectural Portfolio.

UC Irvine Stem Cell Research Center Building Irvine, CA

BFL Owen is the structural engineer of record for the new design-build Stem Cell Research building at UCI.This is the 9th design-build project that BFL Owen has worked on at the campus. The $46 Million facility is a 105,000 square foot, four-story building. The building includes the core stem cell laboratory and equipment for human embryonic stem cell line derivation, cell culture, differentiation and purification, and cell and tissue imaging. The building is intended to receive LEED Gold Certification.

UC Irvine Medical Center, Clinical Laboratory Replacement BuildingIrvine, CA

BFL Owen is providing structural engineering services for the new LEED design-build Clinical Laboratory replacement building at UCI. The new Clinical Replacement Laboratory will play a strong presence when entering the campus from City Center Drive. In the finished master plan the new Laboratory will be on the east side of a future medical office building.

UC Irvine Engineering Unit 3 Laboratory Building Irvine, CA

BFL Owen is the structural engineer of record for this $50 million design-build lab project at UCI. This is BFL Owen’s seventh design-build project at UCI.The 150,000 sq ft building includes laboratory space, lecture, and office. The project was designed to achieve LEED Gold Certification and is in the final stages of earning the certificate.In 2009, Engineering Unit 3 won the ACI Award for Outstanding Achievement and Excellence in Concrete Construction.

Featured Project - Tulare Regional Medical Center, Tower No. 2BFL Owen is teamed with Kluger Architects to provide structural, and construction support services for the new In-Patient Tower 2 Project at Tulare Regional Medical Center (TRMC).Tower 2 at TRMC is an 111,100 square foot addition to the current hospital campus. Its estimated project cost is $25,000,000 for Phase 1. It is planned as an architectural and functional extension of the existing tower. The Tower 2 addition consists of a four-story above-grade structure, plus a basement. It is intended to house up to 105 patient rooms and medical and technical support functions on the four floors. The basement houses administration and related medical and technical support functions. It also includes access ramps and loading docks. An atrium will provide the main entrance to the tower and will connect it to an adjacent existing tower.The project is divided into separate phases and increments for plan checking and construction purposes. The first phase is to include master planning, programming, shell and core for the entire 111,100 square foot structure with design and build-out of the basement and first floor. Two incremental packages will be developed for the Office of Statewide Health Planning and Development (OSHPD) for fast-paced approval and construction start scheduling. The interior design of tenant improvements (TI) for the first through fourth floors will be finished at a later date under a separate design and construction process.
