FACULTY RETIREMENT INCENTIVE PROGRAM (FRI)
• Provost-initiated program designed to recognize and address
changing needs for faculty lines in academic units.
• Vacated positions remain in the college.
• A one-time program.
• Eligibility: tenured/clinical faculty age 60 or older and 10 or
more years of service.
• Participation completely voluntary.
• Retirements effective May 14 or June 30, 2017.
• Incentive: One year base salary + $35K HRA over 5 years.
• Provost assistance with 50% cost of 10% eligible.
• 55 faculty eligible in HHS (45% of HHS full professors)

after 42 years of service
to Purdue University!
• Provost-initiated project.
• Objective: to determine optimal faculty size (FTE) for
each college.
• Many criteria examined; undergraduate enrollment a very
significant factor.
• Outcome: l 35 FTE returned to Provost (with funding) by
6 colleges + Libraries
l HHS returned 2 FTE
l HHS target FTE = 246.59

OPPORTUNITIES
• Strengthen and expand professional programs in emerging
areas of need:
• Nursing enrollment growth initiative: Double undergraduate
enrollment to 800 and increase the number of graduates
(from 100 to 200 annually)
• Public Health Graduate Program/MPH accreditation and on-
line degree.
• Online HTM MS degree, January 2018
• Exploring Doctor of Physical Therapy (DPT) degree
• Stay focused on our overarching priorities
• Expand knowledge that changes practice and improves lives
• Transform and expand opportunities which allow students to
succeed at Purdue and in their careers.
