Do you know the connection between all these places and Ilkley Grammar School?

We are running a competition for students, with 3 credits up for grabs (all important for super tutor group and certificate points for your IGS community), to the first person who correctly identifies each place’s link to IGS...are you up for the challenge?

Students can send their answers to [email protected]

A sense of community is really important at Ilkley Grammar School, and it doesn’t stop at I, G and S Band...or even Ilkley for that matter! We are all part of a wider global community and as a school we have many connections with places further afield than Yorkshire

Our new community sign post has recently been installed just outside the new block and highlights places close to IGS’s heart.

Community Counts

Get Involved! Community Charity Day takes place in 2 weeks time and we hope our students will all get involved by bringing in some spare change to donate to their community buckets which will be brought round by sixth form students during registration, break-time and lunchtime. The staff will be contributing to community points by competing in an indoor hockey tournament which students can watch in the Sports Hall for a charitable donation.

All money raised will go to the Community Foundation for Calderdale. Flooding once again hit Calderdale during Boxing day 2015; this fund supports people who were affected.

PTA Meeting Our next PTA meeting will be held on Thursday 21st January, 7pm at the Wheatley. Discussions will include this year’s car boot sales; it would be great to see as many people there as possible.

PTA Auction of Promises The PTA's annual Auction of Promises is a real highlight in the fundraising year and helps to raise valuable funds for the school, as well as being an opportunity to bid for something money often can't buy. In 2015 your bids raised just over £2,700 for the school. To try and match that for 2016, we need to have as many different items as possible: food; wine; health and beauty gift sets; treatments and help or services you can offer would all be much appreciated! This year the auction will be hosted on-line (ebay-style) so if you have a picture of your donation, please do email it along with the details to the auction team on: [email protected] preferably before Sunday 31st January.

We are also looking for companies to sponsor the auction, so if you don't have a specific item to offer, but would still like to help, please do get in touch. For a minimum sponsorship fee of £60, your company banner would appear on the auction site, potentially reaching thousands of people in Ilkley.

Donations can also be brought into school and handed in at Reception. Many thanks in advance for your help.

The PTA Auction Team

Do you have any old school uniform you no longer need? We often need spare trousers, skirts, ties and blazers in the Key Stage Hubs for emergencies. If students damage their uniform during the school day it’s great to have some spares to save their dignity! Please call in to Reception to drop off any current, clean school uniform that you would like to donate to school. Thank you!

Alcohol Survey As mentioned in last week’s Headline, the Bradford District Community Alcohol Partnership (CAP) alcohol survey for Year 9, 10 and 11 has now been emailed out to students. Thank you for your support.

Well played to our Key Stage 4 hockey players who took part in the mixed hockey match against Guiseley School this week. Sophie Armitage (10JB) has provided the match report.

‘Ilkley started well, getting used to the game play and each other's strength. After a few strong runs from Becky Hadfield (10JB), Ilkley broke through the Guiseley defence, resulting in a long corner from which Kirsty McMillan (10MEK) slipped the ball past the keeper for our first goal! During the second half Guiseley managed to equalise but not for long. Following a reverse stick run from Nisha Cant (10JK), Ollie Burton (10JDA) scored the second goal making it 2-1. Kirsty McMillan scored the final goal from a short corner to finish 3-1 to Ilkley.’
