LATE ARRIVALS

Students arriving late to school is an ongoing concern of the Central staff. Late arrivals impact a great deal on academic success. Students disrupt the class when they arrive late. Morning announcements and instructions for the school day are missed by these students.

It is important that our students arrive on time and are prepared to start their day with their class. Your co-operation in helping your child arrive at school on time is greatly appreciated. A reminder that morning supervision on the playground begins at 8:20 am. Students who walk to school can arrive any time after this, unless they are involved in an early activity in the school.

Students who walk home should leave the school yard at dismissal time. Bus students should report promptly to their bus line. Your co-operation is appreciated.

OFFICE UPDATE

SPECIAL REQUEST One of the “Christmas Traditions” that has been long established is students giving gifts to their teachers or other staff members. While this is a very thoughtful gesture, and has been much appreciated by the staff we are suggesting alter-nate ways of giving gifts.

Food donations and unwrapped gifts will be collected at the school to be donated to the Grimsby Benevolent Fund (see list below)

Teachers always appreciate books for their classrooms. Consider selecting a special book to donate to the class.

DID YOU MISS THE DEADLINE?

It’s not too late to order gift cards from the school!

You know you will be giving gift cards to at least a few people on your list. Why not get them from Fundscrip, so our school can benefit too? Order online!

Orders placed between now and December 1st will be ready for pick-up at the school on December 7th.

Orders placed between December 1st and December 15, will be ready for pick-up at the school on December 21st.

To order, go to www.fundscrip.com, and enter our invitation code: 7VFBV2 when you register.

While you’re there, why not get a few for yourself? Gift cards don’t have to be just for gifts. Many of our supporters use them to buy their groceries and gas. They are earning money for our school without even trying!

VOW OF SILENCE — OUR ME TO WE CLUB AND OTHER STUDENTS PARTICIPATED IN THE VOW OF SILENCE ON NOVEMBER 30th. Congratulations to those students who committed to this worthy awareness campaign.

JUNIOR GIRLS VOLLEYBALL

Our junior girls team has also completed their schedule and the girls have moved on to the play off round on Monday, December 5th @ Central. Good Luck!

Thank you to Ms. Wainwright, Ms. Kurzawa, Mrs. Meecham and Mr. Herfst for their work with our teams.

INTERMEDIATE BOYS VOLLEYBALL

The intermediate boys volleyball team had an outstanding season! They went undefeated in the regular season and the playoffs making them the Champions of Region 3! On November 21st, they competed in the District School Board of Niagara tournament. They placed second in their pool, advancing to the semi finals. After winning their quarter final match, they moved forward to the semi finals. An unfortunate loss in the semi finals, after a very close game against tough competitor Dalewood school brought the day to an end. Coaches Mrs.Clutterbuck and Mrs.Meecham were extremely proud of the boys success this year. They played well as a team and showed great sportsmanship throughout the season. Team members included: Cory Kimmell, Brandon Saigeon, Noah Badgerow, Eric Spiece, Rowan Martin, Jake Lamb, Jake Brannen, Sean Principi, Nolan Procyshyn and Lucas Penny.

JUNIOR BOYS VOLLEYBALL

We want to congratulate the boys on a successful season. The team developed their skills throughout the sea-son and we had some winning games. However, we did not make the playoffs this year. Thanks to all the boys who dedicated their time and energy this season. We hope for better results from this young team as they con-tinue to grow and develop as young volleyball players.

We want to extend a big THANK YOU to all the parents who drove for our away games as we could not have

had a season without your support. Lastly, a tremendous THANK YOU to the head coach, Mrs. Meecham for

organizing and coaching this year.

BUS CANCELLATION & SCHOOL CLOSURE PROCEDURES

RELATED TO WINTER WEATHER CONDITIONS

Once again, it is time to review winter weather issues as it pertains to school closures and bus transportation procedures.

As in the past, parents are reminded to tune in to your local radio station to hear current reports on weather and any announcements from the District School Board of Niagara. Local radio stations will be contacted regarding any cancellations or school closings.

News stations contacted are:

CKTB 610, CHTZ 97.7 FM, CHRE 105.7 FM, CKEY (River) 105.1 FM, GIANT 91.7 FM, CHSC 1220, CKOC 1150, K-LITE 102.9 FM, CHML 900, Y95.3, 107.9 FM, WAVE 94.7 and CHAM 820, CHCH TV and CHUM TV.

Please keep in mind when listening for reports that Central School is located in the Town of Grimsby and is serviced by First Student buses.

You may hear any one of the following announcements:

Due to the existing weather conditions, the District School Board of Niagara has implemented the following:

(1) In the Town of Grimsby, First Student buses will not be operating. All public and secondary schools in the Town will be closed.

(2) In the Town of Grimsby, First Student buses will not be operating. Public elementary and secondary schools in the Town will remain open.

Keep in mind that an announcement of this kind could also pertain to the YMCA Daycare Program here at Central School.

In the event of winter weather conditions, we cannot stress enough that all parents should listen to a local radio station.

PLEASE DO NOT call the school to ask for the above information,

This ties up our lines and does not allow for emergency use.

As always, sending your child to school on a questionable weather day is at the discretion of each parent.

However, should you decide to keep your child at home when the above statements are not implemented (buses are running school is open)
