14th Sunday Of Ordinary Time
This weekend we welcome Fr. Michael Wanta to
STA to celebrate our 8:00 a.m. Mass. Fr. Wanta
was ordained to the priesthood last Friday evening
and would like to offer his gratitude to our STA
Parish for hosting him for his summer assignment
before he left for his studies in Rome in the sum-
mer of 2017. Also Fr. Wanta is a graduate of St. Ambrose
Academy, which was housed here at our STA Parish for
16 years, including the years Fr. Wanta was in school. Let
us continue to pray for our seminarians and for an increase
in vocations to the priesthood and religious life. Thank
you for all you do to support vocations, including my
own!�
End of Fiscal Year
Our Fiscal Year ended last week on June 30
th
. This is the
first weekend of our new fiscal year. I want to thank all of
our households who have made special sacrifices to finan-
cially support our mission here at STA. Especially for
those who additionally are supporting our Make Disciples
Capital Campaign. In early September we hope to have
the Annual Finance Report published. Our new Business
Manager, Lisa Harrington has made many improvements
in our Finance Office and we are grateful for her good
work. This has been a challenging year to say the least,
but your generosity throughout the pandemic has been an
inspiration and great blessing. May God reward you for
your goodness!�
Welcome New Staff Members!
This week we are welcoming three new staff members:
Margarita Cabada, Robert Rojas Cruz, and Terri Kysely.
Margarita is taking over for Lorianne Aubut and will be
our Director of Hispanic Ministry and Coordinator of Re-
ligious Education for grades K�5. Robert will be taking
over for Dominic Meyer and will be our Directory of
Youth Ministry, Young Adult Ministry, and Director of
Religious Education for grades 6�12. Terri will be taking
over for Clarice Hinrichs and will be our Parish Adminis-
trative Assistant in the main office. Please pray for them
and welcome them as they begin their ministry among us
and service to our parish family. We will be getting to
know them better in the near future and there will be an
opportunity for us soon to meet them in person after our
Sunday Masses.�

Independence Day! This occasion gives us time to thank
God for the birth of our nation, and give thanks for the gift of
life and liberty! It is a great time of year for picnics, parades,
fireworks, and community festivals and spending time with
family and friends. John Adams, one of the Founding Fathers
of our�country, wrote this about how to celebrate the fourth
of July:�

Este fin de semana damos la bienvenida al Padre
Michael Wanta a Santo Tomás de Aquino para cele-
brar nuestra Misa de las 8:00 a.m. El Padre Wanta
fue ordenado sacerdote el viernes pasado por la no-
che y le gustaría expresar su gratitud a nuestra parro-
quia STA por recibirlo durante su asignación durante
el verano antes de irse a sus estudios en Roma en el verano
de 2017. También el padre Wanta se graduó de la Academia
Saint Ambrose, que estuvo alojada aquí en nuestra parroquia
STA durante 16 años, incluyendo los años que el Padre Wan-
ta asistió a la escuela. Sigamos orando por nuestros semina-
ristas y por un aumento de las vocaciones al sacerdocio y la
vida religiosa. ¡Gracias por todo lo que hacen para apoyar las

Fin del año fiscal
Nuestro año fiscal terminó la semana pasada el 30 de junio.
Este es el primer fin de semana de nuestro nuevo año fiscal.
Quiero agradecer a todos nuestros hogares que han hecho
sacrificios especiales para apoyar financieramente nuestra
misión aquí en Saint Thomas Aquinas. Especialmente para
aquellos que además están apoyando nuestra Campaña Capi-
tal Haciendo Discípulos. A principios de septiembre espera-
mos tener publicado el Informe financiero anual. Nuestra
nueva gestora comercial, Lisa Harrington, ha realizado mu-
chas mejoras en nuestra Oficina de Finanzas y estamos agra-
decidos por su buen trabajo. Este ha sido un año desafiante

I think he would be pleased with how we are observing
our national holiday this year as we come out of the pan-
demic. After the 10:00 a.m. Mass, I will be spending the

of July as I do every year in my hometown of Kieler,

nic. I pray for every good blessing for our country and
for God’s guidance as we continue to face the many chal-
lenges of this world. We must always remember that
God is the source of our freedom:�
“We hold these truths to be self�evident, that all men are
created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator
with certain unalienable rights, that among these are life,
liberty, and the pursuit of happiness.”�
We are so blessed to live in a country with so much free-
dom. Let us pray this simple prayer for our nation writ-
ten by George Washington, our first President:�
“Almighty God, who has given us this good land for our
heritage: We humbly beseech you that we may always
prove ourselves a people mindful of your favor and glad
to do your will. �Bless our land with honorable industry,
sound learning, and pure manners. �Save us from vio-
lence, discord, and confusion; from pride and arrogance,
and from every evil way. ��
Defend our liberties, and fashion into one united people
the multitudes brought hither out of many kindreds and
tongues. �Endue with the spirit of wisdom those to whom
your Name we entrust the authority of government, that
there may be justice and peace at home, and that, through
obedience to your law, we may show forth your praise
among the nations of the earth. �
In the time of prosperity, fill our hearts with thankfulness
and in the day of trouble, do not allow our trust in you to
fall; all this we ask through Jesus Christ our

Creo que estaría complacido con la forma en que estamos

Mark 6:1-6
Why? Why do the people of Nazareth turn on Je-
sus when he returns home? Apparently, they were
not able to reconcile the fact that this great teacher,
healer and prophet was the same person as the boy
they had watched grow up in their town. He was
the son of Mary and Joseph, their neighbors. He
was a carpenter. He was just an ordinary guy. How could
he be a miracle worker? How could he be, as some whis-
pered, the Messiah?�
�
Ordinary. This reading today is a good reminder to look
for God in the midst of the ordinary. Do we reserve our
recognition of Jesus in our lives to just Sunday mornings
or times of prayer? Our Lord’s presence is every day and
everywhere � in the drumming of rain on the roof, the
swaying of a tree in the wind, the laughter of a child.
He’s there when we’re peeling potatoes, driving the car,
or playing a game. Recognizing that God is in the mun-
dane as well as the miraculous can be a way of feeling
his presence in a more immediate and personal way. �
Our relationship with Jesus should be an ongoing every-
day conversation, not an occasional “meet & greet” with
a celebrity. So today, make it a point to celebrate the �
ordinary!�
Marcos 6:1-6
¿Por qué? ¿Por qué el pueblo de Nazaret se vuelve
contra Jesús cuando regresa a casa? Aparente-
mente, no fueron capaces de reconciliar el hecho
de que este gran maestro, sanador y profeta era la
misma persona que el niño que habían visto crecer
en su ciudad. Era hijo de María y José, sus vecinos.
Era carpintero. Él era sólo una persona ordinaria. ¿Cómo
podría ser un obrador de milagros? ¿Cómo pudo ser, co-

Ordinario. Esta lectura de hoy es un buen recordatorio
para buscar a Dios en medio de lo ordinario. Reservamos
nuestro reconocimiento de Jesús en nuestras vidas a sólo
los domingos por la mañana o a los tiempos de oración?
La presencia de Nuestro Señor es todos los días y en
todas partes � en el tambor de la lluvia en el techo, el �
balanceo de un árbol en el viento, la risa de un niño. Él
está allí cuando estamos pelando papas, conduciendo el
coche, o jugando un juego. Reconocer que Dios está �
tanto en lo mundano como en lo milagroso puede ser una
forma de sentir su presencia de una manera más inmedi-
ata y personal. Nuestra relación con Jesús debe ser una
conversación diaria continua, no un encuentro esporádico
con una celebridad. Así que hoy, que sea un punto para
celebrar lo ordinario!�

boards are in place to help all of those gathered to
pray, to be able to participate in our sung prayer.

used at the same time, but are always listed in the
order which they occur, following the Order of the Mass.�

Occasionally, there may be some additions to those
things listed above. On Ash Wednesday, we sing during

this overview is helpful to you as you come each week-
end to pray the Mass.�

and to be ready to explain the reason.
This summer, we invite you to take your
hope and joy on the road! You will be
receiving in the mail a window cling
(designed by parishioner Jen Read) that
you can put on your car window as you
travel to your summer destinations, or in
your window at home for visitors to see.
Let’s be ready to share the good news of
our faith, in a world that could use a little
more hope and joy!

Have you been thinking about where your gifts & talents could best be used? There are many ministries in need.
Rosebud Ministry
The Rosebud ministry is a beautiful way to show respect
for the dignity and worth of all life. This ministry helps
the parish identify, pray for, and support those who are
pregnant, celebrating birth or adoption, grieving miscar-
riage, stillborn, abortion, infant or child death, wanting to
become pregnant or adopt. It also supports grandparent’s
concerns. In the Gathering Area by the Blessed Virgin
Mary statue, you will find a vase for roses, a basket of
roses, cards, and tags in both English and Spanish. �
Take a tag which deals with your concerns. Fill out the
information on the tag, tie it to the rosebud, and place it
in the vase. Your prayer intentions will be put on our

Liturgical Art & Church Documents
The care and decoration of Altar and the church environ-
ment requires a working knowledge of some of the docu-
ments of the Church. There are specific requirements,
guidelines, and restrictions that are followed throughout
the year, working to highlight our liturgical seasons and
the Holy Mass, which is our primary celebration as �
Catholics.�
�
Decorators/Designers
Along with knowledge of liturgical art and Church docu-
ments, those who are skilled at designing and arranging
our environment are extremely important. This is more
than just arranging flowers, although that skill is helpful.
With an eye to what we celebrate, those who can vision
and help to create a welcoming space that draws the as-
sembly into the action of the Mass, are a must in this ar-
ea. We strive for our whole community to come together
in prayer, and our environment helps us to do this in a
beautiful and meaningful way.�
�
Fabric Care
We have a lot of fabric and materials that we use in the
church, from Altar Cloths, to banners, to fabric to place
around flowers, etc. All this material needs to be laun-
dered, ironed, and organized. Many of the fabric pieces
have unhemmed edges which will need some attention to
clean them up as well. In addition, we are looking for
folks whose sewing skills are top�notch and will be able
to help us create new Altar Cloths, banners, etc. in the
future.�
�
Flower/Plant Care
We use a lot of plants and flowers throughout the year in
our decorations. Some plants are purchased seasonally,
like Poinsettias and Easter Lillies. These need regular

environment seasonally or for special events, which need
weekly watering and care throughout the entire year.�

Heavy Lifters
We are always in need of those who can assist moving
flowers and plants, but also for special occasions, those
who can do some heavy lifting are essential. This might
include climbing ladders to hang fabric banners, carrying
in and putting up the Christmas trees and lights, setting
up the crèche or the baptismal font, adjusting lights, etc.�
�
We are grateful to all our parishioners for their support �
of our parish community, especially during these past
months! If you may be able to assist in any of these are-
as, please let us know. Many hands make light work.
And as we continue to develop this new need and minis-
try, we pray that our prayer as a community of faith will

Art & Environment
This new team of individuals will help to craft and oversee specifically, the Liturgical Environment and Décor in the
church. This is no small task! Some tasks overlap with the role of Sacristan, and this team will work together with our
staff! Here are some specific areas and skills which we are hoping to find among our parishioners:

También usamos muchas plantas y flores durante todo el
año en nuestras decoraciones. Algunas plantas se compran
por temporada, como Poinsettias y Lirios. Estos necesitan
riego regular durante esas temporadas. Otras plantas las
mantenemos durante todo el año, introduciéndolas en el
ambiente litúrgico estacionalmente o para eventos especial-
es, que necesitan riego y cuidados semanales durante todo
el año.�
Levantadores de objetos pesados
Siempre necesitamos personas que puedan ayudar a mover
flores y plantas, pero también en ocasiones especiales,
aquellos que pueden levantar objetos pesados son esencial-
es. Esto puede incluir subir escaleras para colgar pancartas
de tela, cargar y colocar los árboles de Navidad y las luces,
instalar el nacimiento o la pila bautismal, ajustar las luces,
etc.�

Arte y Ambiente

Arte litúrgico y documentos de la Iglesia: �
El cuidado y la decoración del altar y el ambiente de la
iglesia requiere un conocimiento práctico de algunos de
los documentos de la Iglesia. Hay requisitos, pautas y
restricciones específicas que seguimos durante todo el
año, trabajando para descartar nuestros tiempos litúrgi-
cos y la Santa Misa, que es nuestra celebración principal
como católicos.�

Decoradores / Diseñadores
Junto con el conocimiento del arte litúrgico y los documen-
tos de la Iglesia, aquellos que son expertos en diseñar y
organizar nuestro ambiente son extremadamente im-
portantes. Esto es más que simplemente arreglar flores,
aunque esa habilidad es útil. Aquellos que pueden visualiz-
ar y ayudar a crear un espacio que atraiga a la asamblea a la
acción de la Misa, son imprescindibles en esta área. Nos
esforzamos para que toda nuestra comunidad se una en
oración, y nuestro ambiente nos ayuda a hacer esto de una
manera hermosa y significativa.�
El cuidado de las telas
Tenemos una gran cantidad de telas y materiales que usa-
mos en la iglesia, desde manteles de altar, pancartas, telas
para colocar alrededor de flores, etc. Todo este material
necesita ser lavado, planchado y organizado. Muchas de las
piezas de tela tienen bordes sin dobladillo que necesitarán
un poco de atención para limpiarlas. Además, buscamos
personas con habilidades de coser así puedan ayudarnos a
crear nuevos manteles de altar, pancartas, etc. en el futuro.�

Ministerio de Rosas
El ministerio de rosas es una hermosa manera de mostrar
respeto por la dignidad y el valor de toda la vida. Este
ministerio ayuda a la parroquia a identificar, orar y
apoyar a aquellas mujeres que están embarazadas, cele-
brando el nacimiento o la adopción, el aborto espontáneo
en duelo, el nacimiento muerto, el aborto, la muerte de
bebés o niños, aquellas que desean quedar embarazadas
o adoptar. También apoya las preocupaciones de los
abuelos. En el área de reunión junto a la estatua de la
Santísima Virgen María, encontrará un jarrón para rosas,
una cesta de rosas, tarjetas y etiquetas en inglés y espa-
ñol. Tome una etiqueta que se ocupa de sus pre-
ocupaciones. Llene la información en la etiqueta, atársela
al rosebud y colóquela en el jarrón. Sus intenciones de
oración serán puestas en nuestra cadena de oración. Para
