PRINCIPAL MATTERS

TERM 2 WRAP UP!

What a jam packed Term 2 it has been with so many

wonderful events, opportunities and learning

experiences taking place. Congratulations to all of our

students for their hard work, focused attention on

achieving learning goals and accomplishment of

creative and sporting endeavours. I am very proud of

the work that has taken place this term and I applaud

the dedicated work of students and teachers. A very big thankyou to our P&C and many committed parent

helpers who turn up to classes week after week to support class learning programs. We look forward to

your ongoing support in Semester 2.

We are blessed to live and learn in a beautiful environment surrounded by a very supportive community.

Many of our families frequent the Waniora Shops in the mornings and afternoons and we ask that, as a

school community, we all respect the businesses there by behaving in the same way that is expected at

school. As a community, we need to work together to promote high levels of behaviour and respect in all

settings. Any children who display inappropriate behaviour, including criminal behaviour, will be referred

directly to the police.

Congratulations to our Year 5 campers. The reports from camp indicate that your behaviour was exemplary

with many exciting and positive experiences enjoyed by all. A huge thankyou to our staff who organised and

accompanied the students. Undoubtedly you will all be looking forward to a rest in the holidays.

Term 3 begins on Monday 22nd July with the Staff Development Day. Staff will engage in professional

learning and planning for Semester 2.

Wishing everyone a well-earned, restful break. Enjoy your holidays, stay safe and keep well. We will see you

back at school on Tuesday, 23rd July.

MULTICULTURAL PUBLIC SPEAKING

Congratulations to the students of Beechwood, Kempsey West, Lake

Cathie, Laurieton, Port Macquarie, Tacking Point, Telegraph Point and

Hastings Public Schools who participated in the District Finals of the

Multicultural Public Speaking competition at Hastings yesterday.

Each student presented a prepared speech on a topic of their choice

given by the Department of Education’s Arts Unit. These speeches

had to have a multicultural theme and explore relevant issues.

Overall, the adjudicator commented on the high quality of speeches.

In addition, students also prepared an impromptu speech. Stage 2

students had five minutes to prepare a speech on “One Favourite

Thing” whilst Stage 3 prepared and presented a speech on “Space”.

Both divisions were taken out by the Morris boys with Tallin (3/4P)

winning Stage 2 and Kaeleb (5/6S) winning Stage 3. Congratulations

also to Jeremy Lawrance (3/4P) and Drew de Silva (5/6S) who were

awarded Highly Commended. Good luck to Tallin and Kaeleb at the

Regional Finals to be held in August.

HASTINGS HEADLINES Jemima French (2J) and Addison Lunn (5J) ... Congratulations to Jemima & Addison whose artwork has

been selected as two of 73 finalists in the 2019 University of New England School Acquisitive Art Prize.

Overall, there were 576

entries.

Jemima’s “The Colourful

Magical Forest” and

Addison’s “The Numbat”

will be on display from

2nd to 18th August in the

2019 Let’s Hang It!

exhibition at the New

England Regional Art

Museum (NERAM),

Kentucky Street,

Armidale.

William Martin (5J) … In the PSSA Golf Competition in Yamba held on

Tuesday 2nd July, William (pictured at right) finished as runner up,

narrowly missing the outright win by 2 strokes. He played

outstandingly as the youngest player in the 18 hole event and was

really unfortunate not to take winner’s spot. He did however win the

lowest nett score of the day shooting 3 under for a score of 64, and

has also made the North Coast NSW Team where he will be

representing our school and region in Sydney in

September. Congratulations, well done and good luck, William!

YEARS 3 to 6 Over the holidays please restock your supplies of pens, lead & coloured pencils and glue sticks.

Students also require a wooden ruler, a plain white rectangular eraser (nothing fancy), a pencil

sharpener with a shavings catcher, a pair of scissors and a box of tissues (if this wasn’t supplied at the

beginning of the year).
