Hastings Direct’s Community Programme supports Santa Fun Run
Hastings Direct’s community programme – A Helping Hand is supporting the Eastbourne
Santa Fun Run & Walk in aid of the Myasthenia Gravis Association with a £100 donation and
a team of volunteers to marshal the event.
Hastings Direct’s A Helping Hand makes financial, professional and physical support
available to the local community. Each month Hastings is able to offer either professional
support from its 1,300 +staff, or physical support with team building days. In addition,
Hastings has made a small monthly grant available to support local funding.
Myasthenia Gravis is an auto immune muscle weakening disease. The Myasthenia Gravis
Association is a charity which offers support to Myasthenics and their families, increasing
public and medical awareness and raising funds for research.
Steve Saunders, regional organiser, Myasthenia Gravis Association: “Last year we raised
£14,000 and this year, the sixth annual Santa Fun Run & Walk will take place on Eastbourne
Seafront on Sunday 2nd December. Thanks to the support of A Helping Hand we now have
the funds to promote the event more widely to help attract more runners and walkers, as well
as help on the day from Hastings Direct staff to ensure the event runs as smoothly as ever.
“The event is open to the whole family and everyone that registers to do the three mile route,
fund raises and takes part will receive their own Santa suit to wear on the day and keep as
well.”
Any local charity, good cause or individual in need can apply directly to Hastings for support.
All applications will then be assessed each month. Applications which are then selected will
receive donated resources – physical, professional or financial.
Jay Wootten, chair A Helping Hand: “This is an established event in the local calendar which
raises much needed funds for this small, but vital charity. Our staff is happy to support the
event and are looking forward to offering some early Christmas cheer to keep the Santas full
of joy to the finish line.”
