A NEW BOOK THAT OFFERSHOPE TO PEOPLE WITHASPERGER’S SYNDROME

byBILL GOODYEAR

Coaching People with Asperser’s Syndrome byBill Goodyear, published by Karnac and avail-able from Amazon at £20.99, but it is also onBill Goodyear’s website,www.billgoodyear.org

This is the first book to bring a coaching approachto people with Asperger’s Syndrome. Aspergaer’sis a socially isolating neurological condition whichinterferes with social functioning, leaving peopleanxious, depressed and marginalised. BillGoodyear is the only coach working withAsperger’s in the UK. His passionate manifestogrew from his frustration with the lack of any effec-tive solution. He strongly believes that an individu-alised coaching-based approach is the answerbecause it works.

Bill Goodyear says that there has been a 200%increase in numbers of people diagnosed withAsperger’s in the UK in recent years. Currentapproaches to Asperger’s don’t go far enough.Diagnosis has not led to the right kind of help -and that’s a scandal! There are virtually no servic-es designed for people with Asperger’s, and afterdiagnosis they generally get no further help. Alltoo often they fall through the net because theservices that do exist are designed for people withlearning difficulties or mental ill-health. The intro-duction of a specialised coaching programme fol-lowing diagnosis, which is what he’s calling for,can make a positive change right now. He wantspeople to live happy productive lives, and coach-ing can help them to find out how to do this - itworks because it’s tailored to individual needs.

This book gives practical guidance and inspirationto workers in the field so they can effect positivechange so that people with Asperger’s can get thehelp and guidance they need.

Disability friendly Will-Planning.

Relatives and other carers of vulnerable people of all ages often worry about how that person will be lookedafter once they are gone. If you want to benefit a vulnerable person then making sure you have a genuinely‘disability friendly’ Will is crucial.

First, it enables you to choose who will look after the value of your estate when you are gone. That is bymaking a careful choice of ‘executors’ and also ‘trustees’. Specialist professional trustees, with experience ofcreating and administering care packages, may for example be required to work with appropriate relatives.

Second, it enables ‘money matters’ to be handled properly and in such a way as to preserve the vulnerableperson’s existing means-tested income related and care related benefits in accordance with the law. Specialtrust arrangements are possible. In that way your Will can make a real difference by topping up what isavailable without causing entitlements to be lost.

Third, a real disability friendly Will:

• Reduces the risk of challenges to your wishes. This can be a big concern.• Secures the interests of any people you want to benefit exactly as intended. This includes:

- Avoidance of disputes.- Reduction of unnecessary costs.

• Can provide extra valuable Asset Protection for those you want to benefit:- Protection of your money and property from ‘others’.- Protection from the high cost of any sort of long-term care.

• Can secure inheritance tax savings up to £124,800 and other ongoing tax benefits.

Contact the Disability Wills Service of Wrigleys Solicitors LLP 0114 2675588 or [email protected] and ask for our no obligation specialist disability Wills pack.
