FINISH THOMPSON ULTRA CHEM NEW MODELS & OPTIONS
Finish Thompson has rolled-out a new line of Ultra Chem® Magnetic Drive Pumps and options. The new models available are both updated versions of the UC2110. Model UC2110L was developed as a low flow version of the UC2110 for applications that require higher heads at lower flow rates (maximum flow rate is 83 gpm/18.9 m3hr at 3500 rpm). Model UC3110 (unique to FTI), offers the same performance as the UC2110, however, it now has 3” suction flanges. This allows users to connect a 3” suction pipe, helping them provide adequate net positive suction head available (NPSHa).
Two new repair options have been added to the FTI line of Ultra Chem® Magnetic Drive Pumps. These new repair options are for customers who have suffered a catastrophic pump failure but where the casing is still in good condition.
Wet End:
The wet end option contains all of the wetted parts except the casing. It also includes the front shaft support and thrust ring, clamp ring, drain cap & gasket and hardware. The wet end option should be selected
when a catastrophic pump failure occurs, where the rear barrier hasn’t been breached and the pumps outer mag-nets and motor remain in good condition but the other wetted components have been damaged with the excep-tion of the casing.
Pump End:
The pump end option is the complete pump without the casing (or motor). It includes the outer drive and shaft adapter, the motor adapter and the casing stainless steel cap and gasket. The pump end option should be selected when catastrophic pump failure occurs, where the wet-ted components have been damaged, the rear barrier has been breached and the pumps out magnets have been damaged, but the casing is in good condition.

Club is what you make of it!
Another aspect of the team is one all the sponsors and students and all the rest of the faculty and administra-tion share. The aspect in question is one of empow-ering the students. The team members want to show everyone that despite the location of the school, the socioeconomics of the general student population and the general public’s perception of public schools, they can set the bar as high as any other school and they can not only participate, but excel. We all believe that no one or nothing can determine the level of success other than ourselves. We are good, because we want to be good, and that is that! The club has won numerous awards from their electric cars, their ham radio compe-titions, their robotics, their catapult competitions, etc. The club has also had media coverage from newspa-pers and radio to television. They present or exhibit all over the Phoenix metropolitan area throughout the year! The club is also on a campaign to change the surrounding community’s perception of science and technology. They are trying to show that students from this neighborhood can achieve like students from any of the more affluent ones. Per Steve, Coach Fred has been using Harrington’s products for 15 years. It started when the Coach was building full sized electric cars. He then moved into robotics and continued using fiberglass because it allowed his team to build and compete against the best teams in the world without a machine shop. Harrington now has more schools in Arizona coming to us for FRP because of Coach Fred and this team.
The Falcon Robotic Team 842 has won numerous awards such as the 2008 Arizona Regional Chairman’s Award; the 2008 National Chairman’s Award for Best Role Model Team. They are the best TEAM in the world. Their robot was six matches away for being the best robot in the world!
FRP Shapes & Robotics(Contributed by Steve Rodriguez)
The article below is an oldie but goodie from the 2008 archives compiled by Louise Shane. Thanks Louise!
Ever wonder “In what fashion other than originally intended can FRP shapes sold by Harrington be used?” Ah come on, we know you have. Well, Steve Rodriguez in our Phoenix branch has found one such “applica-tion”. The Science & Technology team at Carl Hayden Com-munity High School in Phoenix, Arizona have put some of our FRP shapes into “action.” The Science & Tech-nology Club is a unique and challenging organization. The club is comprised of many students that want to participate from the entire student body. There are many different technical and nontechnical roles that club members can be involved in. One of the keys to the success of the club is that the students raise much of the club funds through the Arizona Tax Credit Plan. A single person can donate up to $300.00, a married couple up to $350, and then receive dollar for dollar what they donated back from state taxes. It is the single best method of raising funds, both for the recipients and the donor! How and where else can a person do-nate money, help a group, and get their money back?
The Robot-ics Club is sponsored by Coach Faridodin “Fredi” Laj-vardi and Dr. Allan Cam-eron. The mission of the sponsors is to expose the students to competitive scientific and technological projects and competitions.
The students learn that they can take on what seem to be overwhelming challenges and overcome them to be successful. It involves the following skills; raising funds, solving logistical issues, researching on the internet, solving technical issues, writing proposals, submitting reports, oral presentations, working as a team, solv-ing interpersonal issues, learning to deal with stress, learning about commitments, and documenting with video and digital pictures. It is like running a company, organization or business. All team members develop all these skills to varying degrees depending on what ones they emphasize. Basically, the Science & Technology

Title: A Day at the Port of Long BeachBy: Janet Girard
Recently I was fortunate enough to attend a seminar which toured the Port of Long Beach. If you have ever dealt with a west coast ocean import or export, this is where the container arrives or departs. Long Beach is actually the 2nd busiest U.S. port and does $180 billion in trade. It is also recognized as an environmental leader by the Green Port Policy. Opened in 1911, the port is managed by the City of Long Beach Harbor Department and covers 35 miles of waterfront. It contains 10 piers, 80 berths and 74 gantry cranes. The whole opera-tion was very impressive! Below are some photos I was able to take aboard the boat tour.
