Application for Opportunity Class Placement in Year 5 - 2019 Opportunity classes cater for highly achieving academically gifted students who may otherwise be without sufficient classmates at their own academic and social level. These classes help gifted and talented students to learn by grouping them with other gifted and talented students, teaching them in specialised ways and providing educational materials at the appropriate level.

Applications for Opportunity Class Placement are considered mainly on the combined results of the Opportunity Class Placement Test and school assessments. The Opportunity Class Placement Test will be held on Wednesday 1st August, 2018.

If you would like to have your child considered for Year 5 Opportunity Class entry in 2019, you need to apply soon. You will need to apply on the internet using a valid email address (not the student’s email address). Detailed instructions on how to apply online will be available from Tuesday 1st May, 2018 at https://education.nsw.gov.au/public-schools/selective-high-schools-and-opportunity-classes/year-5

If you have a disability that prevents you from using a computer, you can contact the Unit for assistance after 1st May, 2018. You must submit only ONE application for each student. Staff Development Day As this is the final newsletter for the term, it is important to remind you that the first day of next term, Monday 30th April is a designated Staff Development Day where all staff will participate in professional learning on reporting and feedback. This means that all students Kindergarten to Year 6 do not return to school until Tuesday 1st May.

Finally, I would like to acknowledge the hard work and dedication of all our staff and volunteers and wish them a relaxing vacation. The number for school security is 1300 482 737 should you see anything out of the ordinary over the holidays.

Have a great holiday, enjoy the break and take care.

BIG MOVER AWARD Tully M. - 3/4G

Congratulations to Tully M. who was awarded the Big Mover Award at last week’s Superstar Assembly.

Tully has made great progress at Niagara Park Public School. He has developed persistence and perseverance when completing tasks in the classroom and always strives to do his personal best at all times.

Tully is both a friendly and respectful student who is kind and thoughtful towards others. His lovely smile and warm greeting to ‘have a nice day’ brings much pleasure to his teachers each morning. Tully’s sweet nature shines through in everything he does and has been acknowledged and commented on by the many staff members that interact with him throughout the course of the week.

Tully has worked hard to develop emotional resilience when he is feeling disappointed or frustrated. He is able to recognise when something worries or concerns him and will calmly and confidently ask for help. Tully has formed some great friendships with his peers and clearly enjoys his interactions with them.

Tully is an asset to our school and a well deserving recipient of this award.
