2. REFERENCES

Project' Specification No. 8474L-000 JS 6300 001 A: General requirements for welding

ASME B31.3, Edition 2002 Krautkramer MIC 20 Operation Manual

3. QUALIFICATION OF PERSONNEL

All operator shall have a proper training comprises for example adequate knowledge of:

- hardness testing on metallic materials- effects due to material properties, especially due to the microstructures, on

hardness testing and on the corresponding choice of the appropriate hardness tester

- effects due to surface finish on the hardness value- effect of the test load on the determined hardness value

4. EXAMINATION EQUIPMENT

The following will be used :- Krautkramer MIC 20 - Handheld probe 10N – MIC 201 A.- Hardness reference blocks.

5. preparation conditions

The surface must be clean as well as free from oil, grease and dust. The peak-to-valley height should not exceed 10 micrometers.

The surface temperature limits are from 00C to 60 0C.

6. calibration

Calibration shall be perform as specified in Krautkramer MIC 20 Operation Manual and may be verified by using standard test blocks of known hardness.

7. examination

SET- UP PROCEDURE:

Switch on equipment and configure the unit in accordance to weld being tested.

Carry out a test with the hardness reference blocks to attain the units of accuracy.

Reading outside this value shall render the equipment uncalibrated and it shall be returned for service.

Operating Procedure

The suppliers operating instructions should be adhered to when using Krautkramer MIC 20 hardness tester.

The area to be tested has to be bare clean metal and the surface shall be cleaned of all contaminants.

The operator shall hold probe with both hands in order to have the best position control during guidance and during impressing in the material surface.

The probe shall be placed vertically on the surface to be tested. Hold the probe with one hand tightly enough so that it doesn’t tilt and press it evenly

and steadily against the surface with the other hand. Increase the pressure steadily until the probe specific load is attained. The measured

hardness value is displayed on the screen.

NOTE:

Avoid any rough placing of the probe on the test surface in order not to damage the diamond.

Do not move the probe under load on the test material.

Pay attention to guiding the probe smoothly and steadily using your both hands.

Do not carry out measurements twice at the same test position. The distance between the test position should be at least 3mm.

8. INTERPRETATION

Results of all tests shall be recorded on the appropriate report forms as supplied by TECHNIP (see attached)

9. EVALUATION

Any weld having test result exceeding greater ±10% than acceptance range limits as specified by Project' Specification are non acceptable.
