HAPPY SUMMER WAUKESHA COUNTY 4-H!
We want to wish everyone a Happy & Safe Summer! We know everyone
has been busy with project completion & preparation for the county
fair, camp and life in general. We’re excited for our Department of Pub-
lic Instruction grant funded Emerging Leaders Program to start and
run July 27 - August 7. This program is targeted towards youth in 6-8th
grade; students will learn about leadership, career exploration and will
end the session with a few college campus tours. If you are interested in
learning more about the program please reach out to James.
Best of luck to our youth at the Waukesha County Fair! We know you
have worked hard on your projects throughout the year. We look for-
ward to seeing all the amazing projects at the County Fair in a few
weeks. Speaking of the Waukesha County Fair, we hope to see many of
your at it! We have some great hands-on activities scheduled in the 4-H
Kids Zone throughout the week with community partners like Tom
Zinnan from UW-Madison BioTrek on Wednesday, SouthEast Master
Gardeners will be there multiple days, Waukesha County’s Environ-
mental Education Team, FoodWIse, UWM at Waukesha Continuing
Education, Trainfest Builders and more!
Camp registration is full! Thank you to all who have signed their youth
up for camp and for those of you who have offered to volunteer. Like so
many things in 4-H, adult volunteers are essential to making camp and
other activities achievable.

Just a reminder that Record Books and ME forms are due to the 4-H Office by Aug. 30. This is the county deadline. Each club has it’s own deadline that will be before this date. This allows the leaders to review the record books before submitting them to the county.
ME Interviews will be Sept. 28. You will be sent a Sign-Up Genius link to register for your interview time.

Re: Invitation to participate in special fair display:
The Waukesha County 4-H Promotions Committee cordially invites members in their last year of 4-H to participate in a special honor. We are asking all our 4-H graduates (with at least 5 years 4-H experience) who are aging out in their last year of 4-H to put together a poster about themselves and their 4-H experience to display in the 4-H Forum at the Waukesha County Fair. If you are a high school senior and plan to continue for your final year next year after your first year of college, please wait to participate in this next year. This is a privileged display by invitation only, not a judged item. You do not enter this poster as a fair entry. Anyone can make the poster for the graduate if they do not want to make it themselves, such as a sibling, parent or leader. We hope you will participate in this exciting tradition to honor those who have successfully completed the 4-H program, as well as to promote 4-H to the community and encourage new members inspired by your success in the program. All seniors should have received an invite with more information in their email in May. If you have any questions, please contact Barb Jones, [email protected].
DETAILS OF SHARE THE FAIR PROMOTION:
If 1 friend comes with your family, only 1 free coupon will be given to a member, even if the visitor is friends with multiple 4-Hers.
If your child brings 2 friends to the fair, the 4-H member gets 1 coupon, and each friend gets one coupon.
If you have 2 children in 4-H, and they bring 2 friends, all 4 of them get a coupon.
If a friend comes every day to the fair, the free coupons will only be given once during the fair per friend
If a friend comes with one 4-H member one day, they cannot get a coupon with a different member a different day
If a 4-H member brings a different friend each day, they can get another free coupon every day
Friends must register with a valid email and address to get free coupons

Reminder, targets and ribbons will be displayed at the fair, up by the 4-H foods. Finally, I would like to thank Halle Johnson, Payton Stowe, Dominic Wiebelhaus, Jake Hoem, Zach Heida, Dalton Pfaff & their families for their donations to the program .
SHOTGUN/TRAP SHOOTING
The date for the fair shoot is Tuesday, July 2nd.
Location is the Waukesha Gun Club, N22 W23170 Watertown Road, Waukesha. Cost will be $6.00 per round of 25 shots, and starting at 6:30 PM. You will need to bring your own shotgun, ammunition, eye and ear protection to participate. As of now, we have been on traps 15 or 16, however, the traps we use COULD CHANGE EACH NIGHT, depending on availability or other circumstances. To make sure, either look for me or check at the club house for where we will be shooting, mention you are with 4-H. The last night for Shotgun/Trap shooting will be Tuesday July 9th.
Results of the fair shoot will be posted at the fair up near the 4-H foods.
FINAL NOTE: All of the practices for “any” of the areas of the Shooting Sports Program are set up as “County Level Practices”. Members can come to as many or as few of the practices they want to. There are NO REQUIRED numbers of practices members need to attend. Just remember, the more practices that are attended gives each member more practice time and the possibility of higher scores at the fair shoots.

My name is Karina Alfaro, I am the Youth Development Coordinator for UW-Madison Extension Waukesha County’s Emerging Leaders program funded by DPI Pre-College Scholarship Program. I am happy to be here and I am looking forward to sharing this experience with everyone.
A little about me, I studied at Waukesha County Technical College for Global Business and Dental Assistance. I enjoy meeting new people, being outdoors and spending time with family. I am creative, positive and determined. My passion is working with youth to enrich their opportuni-ties in education and in life. I look forward in meeting with all of you at the County Fair and Camp.

On May 4th the Waukesha County 4-H Horse Bowl and Hippology teams competed at the State tournament in Wausau. Horse Bowl is a game that is set up like quiz bowl where one four person team competes against one other team at a time. To answer questions, one must buzz in and give the answer verbally. In Hippology (study of the horse), each individual competes by taking a written exam and doing 2 minute stations in which they must identify different items visually. Our teams studied from January through April on Thursday evenings together and in-between at home.
This year we took one beginner team, Brooke Rozman, Colin Finch, Allie Kowieski, and Gracie Shane. The beginner team won a top 10 in Horse Bowl and Allie Kowieski won a top 10 individual.
Our Junior team also won top 10 honors: Davy Gleason, Chloe Rozman, and Coraline Finch competed together.
We had two Senior teams this year. Our A team, consisting of Riley Turinske, Rose Rogers, and Kyrie Kons, won 4th place.
The B team, Nicole Wild, Georgia Gleason, Halle Johnson, and Lauren Petrie, won third place this year, with Georgia Gleason and Nicole Wild winning top 10 individual awards.

MODEL ROCKETRY
The fair shoot was held on Saturday, June 15th. The weather was very unpredictable. With the possibility of showers and thunderstorms during the launch time and as a safety issue, a decision was made Friday night to move the judging to the Horwitz-DeRemer planetarium at the Retzer Nature Center. 10 youth showed up to be judged. After the judging was completed, those who stayed were treated to a program in the dome titled “Defying Gravity” and a tribute to the Apollo 11 moon landing.
I would like to give special thanks to Brian Cieslak our Judge, Mary Ann Gordon for doing all of the paper-work, and taking some pictures of the judging. Very SPECIAL thanks to Lisa Swaney, Director of the Horwitz-DeRemer Planetarium for supplying and allowing us to use this as an alternate site in order do the judging this year
REMINDER: Members need to bring their rocket (WITH THE ENGINES REMOVED) and fair ticket to fair on Tuesday, Judgement Day, get credit for fair. The results of the launch and rockets with ribbons will be displayed at fair, hanging from a net near the entrance to the arena.

ARCHERY
The fair shoot was held on Friday, May 17th at Buck Rub Outfitters. In all, there were a total of 28 youth who shot for fair. I want to thank the following for their assistance at the fair shoots. Mary Ann Gordon w ith registrations and score card verification, as well as during the practice season. I would also like to thank all of the adults w ho helped out at the shoot as additional scorekeepers. In addition, Greg Buddenhagen and Dan Gordon m y other Certified Instruc-tors who helped out during the season and with scoring. Special thanks also to Buck Rub Outfitters (Archery) for allowing us to use their facilities again this year.
Finally, I would like to thank Gabriella Tessman and Zach Heida & their families for their donations to the program.
Score cards and ribbons will be posted at fair, up near the 4-H foods.

GREEN N GROWING CLUB NEWS
In May, we were invited to host the food booth at the Kitchen Garden Gala event at Shady Lane Greenhouse in Menomonee Falls, WI. The nursery gave us the opportunity to sell brats, hot dogs, chips, drinks, and homemade treats and keep all profits. It was a fun event to share our club with the community. And, although we didn't make much of a profit, it was still a "win" because the kids had fun and learned a lot about finances and how to run a booth.
Our June meeting is our last meeting of the 4-H year and we held our first club potluck/picnic at a local park. We also held our annual club officer elections for the 2019-20 4-H year.

OTTAWA CLUB NEWS During our May meeting, for our service project we
planted flowers at the Veterans Memorial at Cory Park in Dousman. The flowers were red, white, and blue to honor the Veterans of Wisconsin. For the June meeting, the 4-H club elected new officers for 2019-2020 and had an ice cream social. The new officers are Lydia Carpenter for President, Caleb Eide for Vice President, Mekayla Gordon for Secretary, Kalyn Carpenter for Treasurer, Annalise Mundschau for Reporter, and Abby Dietrich for Photographer. The ice cream social contained lots of fun. You had to use clover bucks to get toppings on your ice cream. The kids earn the clover bucks by participating in 4-H meetings. Everybody was talking to each other and having a great time.
MINOOKA CLUB NEWS
Minooka has had fun working and playing together this past school year. We worked together cleaning up Prairie Park on a cold day. And, attended a Milwaukee WAVE game with other 4-Hers from around WI. The officers also had a bowling and pizza party to celebrate together. We are looking forward to fair time and showing projects as well as working in the Dairy Bar and Food Booth!
WASHINGTON CLUB NEWS
WEST VERNON CLUB NEWS
In May our club youth leaders did an interactive presentation promoting 4-H Summer Camp. They had a power point, answered a lot of questions, and had a fun game to play along the way. “Show and Tell”-like project member presentations are done every meeting. This month was Foods/ Canning, Archery, Rifle, Home Environment, and Computers. Each of the groups did a great job telling the rest of the club about their projects. And May completed our 3 month coin collection community service project. Congratulations to the GIRLS! The girls donated $58.18 and the boys donated $14.30. All together our club fami-lies donating a total of $72.48 to the Hebron House homeless shelter in Waukesha! And finally in June we ended our meeting
with a creative game of Shark Tank. We divide the members into groups and give them a random object. They have a few minutes to work together to come up with a pitch for their new “invention” in true Shark Tank style. This is a really fun and cre-ative activity that helps build public speaking and teamwork skills.
At our June our club celebrated Dairy Month with an Ice Cream Social and Dip testing made with sour cream and cream cheese. The kids voted for their favorite dip -Tango Taco was their favorite! In June the club also held officer elections for next year, had presentations by the beef and dairy project members, rabbit project, and cloverbuds. Our cloverbuds meet every month and they shared some of the projects and activities they have been working on all year. Even our smallest cloverbuds got up to talk in the microphone. We like to start public speaking early! In June our club youth leaders also did a presentation on county fair preparation sharing important information. Then the kids pretended to be a judge or an exhibitor to show our newer members what to expect. This is always helpful for younger members to be prepared and more comfortable with the judging process.

FALLS BUSY BEAVERS CLUB NEWS
The Falls Busy 4-H club had a great June meeting. We had an ice cream social and cheese tasting event. Then the youth had a poster contest with two themes. The first was to promote "June Dairy Month" and the other theme was "What I have learned from 4-H". Posters will be displayed in the 4-H Forum & hallways fair week. The Club family outing was a tour of the Waukesha County airport. Our club collected and purchased flow-ers for a local senior center and made cards to hand out to 39 residents. It was so rewarding to see the smiles of both the seniors and our youth. The members have been busy with fair projects, final details and schedules are being worked out. Clover buds will have a meeting on July 1st and them again in August to work on their record books. Other club members are welcome to attend on that 1st Thursday of August. A ques-tioner was sent out to the club members to fill out and return to Ellen Pawley to help us plan for next years meetings and club activities. Good Luck at the fair and ENJOY!
4-H TEEN COUNTY NEWS
In May the teen council hosted a wonderful trip to the East Troy Electric railroad. We filled the train with 4-H families to learn the history of the railroads of old, and enjoy a ride from Mukwonago to East Troy. Then we visited the railroad museum and some had ice cream from the old fashioned candy store across the street before we headed back on the train again. We had an awesome surprise that Mr. Forster, a leader from West Vernon 4-H Club was our train conductor, he is a volunteer engineer with the museum! It was a fun and educational experience. This Spring, several of the teen council ambassadors also gave a presentation at the Waukesha County 4-H Leaders Recognition Banquet encouraging leaders to attend the Wisconsin 4-H Fall Forum. They did a great job putting together the power point and delivering the message. The teen council also finished their promo-tional video on 4-H projects this month, created a county wide 4-H google calendar for the office, built their teamwork skills at a local escape room, and did a community service project making birthday bags for the food pantry. In June, the teen council is organizing a countywide 4-H family potluck picnic at Lapham Peak, including a scavenger hunt and games. And they continue to record video announcements for social media at every meeting to help keep our members informed about things going on. This group of teens stays very busy leading activities throughout the county all year long, we thank them for their leadership!

PRAIRIE PIONEERS CLUB NEWS Prairie Pioneers have been a busy bunch. These past 2 months we have done lots of activities. We did a highway cleanup, went roller skating, did a wood working and bead project. We are all enjoying our themed dinners we have monthly! June was dairy month so we enjoyed Mac & cheez, cream puffs, and chocolate milk. In June we donated a $1000 check and needed items to our local North Prairie Woman’s Auxiliary for the fire dept. They do so much for the community and we wanted to give back. Thank you James Boling for being there to support our group. We ended our June meeting with the kids playing fun games outside that were cow themed. We are looking forward to working Waukesha county fair and State Fair this summer! CLEVER CLOVERS CLUB NEWS
The Clever Clovers visited Family Tae Kwon Do for a recent meeting. Master Nick Elliott talked to the club about having confidence and how to handle bullying. His presentation concluded with a demon-stration on basic Tae Kwon Do moves. Club member Nicole Anderson helped Master Elliott run through a number of drills.
