John Fischer immigrated to the United States in 1953 and found work immediately to utilize his skills as a machinist; Heinz Proell immigrated to the United States in 1955 and also found work immediately to utilize his skills as a machinist; and Dieter Wienss, on the other hand, immigrated first to Canada and worked for machine shops and in 1963 left Canada for Milwaukee seeking a machining position.

In the early 60’s, all three men worked together for a period of three years when other opportunities arose, then Mr. Proell and Mr. Wienss moved to other shops.

In 1968, an opportunity presented itself for the men to go off to be self-employed and establish Trace-A-Matic Corp. At first Mr. Fischer did not join, but later in 1976,

2

he was added to the partnership of Trace-A-Matic.

Trace-A-Matic began on 43rd and Burnham in Milwaukee and moved to its Brookfield location in 1975.

Since the first building in Brookfield, Trace-A-Matic has spurred on sister companies of ProSource Trace-A-Matic in Houston Texas, American Friction Welding, D&H Industries and Cutting Edge Fabrication. In total, the businesses utilize approximately 600,000 square feet of building space and employ over 300 people.

Being able to support the Integrated Manufacturing Center on behalf of the three founders is a blessing and a joy for the second generation of John Fischer, Steve Proell and Thorsten Wienss.

There are many ways to give a gift to the WCTC Foundation to benefit our students and programs.

Tom Brophy, former member of the WCTC Foundation Board of Directors, and his wife, Martha, were very creative when they decided they wanted to assist WCTC students with their educational journey.

Tom & Martha wanted to give an IRA minimum distribution to the Foundation but could not do so until the law permitted the transfer to be tax-free. The good news is that Congress passed a tax bill that permanently expended the Qualified Charitable Distribution (QCD) provision which lets individuals over the age of 70½ years transfer from their IRA to charity and have it count as their required minimum distribution without increasing their adjusted gross income.

If you make a tax-free transfer to a charity, it does not provide for a charitable deduction. However, keeping the money out of your adjusted gross income can be valuable if it helps you avoid a higher tax bracket or keeps your income below the threshold for the Medicare high-income surcharge. Keeping money out of your adjusted gross income may also reduce the amount of your Social Security benefits that are subject to taxes. It is also a way to benefit from making a charitable contribution if you don’t itemize your deductions on your tax return.

The WCTC Foundation is extremely grateful to Tom and Martha for this extraordinary gift which will provide opportunity and encouragement for students studying in WCTC’s School of Health, specifically its Nursing program.

You can support WCTC students in a variety of ways. We welcome gifts and bequests of all sizes. Contributions can be made through:

Endowments An endowment with the WCTC Foundation is an excellent tool for making a perpetual scholarship gift. An investment of $10,000 establishes a named endowment to benefit a specific category of students or a field of study that has been chosen by the donor. To accomplish this goal, gift commitments may be completed over a five-year period. Scholarships are awarded beginning the semester after the $10,000 goal is reached.

Named ScholarshipsNamed Scholarships are established to recognize a particular individual or organization. The purpose of the scholarship may be designed specifically by the donor. Honorary and memorial scholarships usually define a field of interest specifically related to the donor’s motivation. All Named Scholarships are promoted to students with information about the source of funding and purpose of the scholarship.

Advised FundsAnother form of support is through an Advised Fund. An Advised Fund is used for the support of specific programs of a department or division and/or the support of students enrolled at WCTC. Donors designating their gifts to an Advised Fund may restrict their gift to student assistance, staff development, materials, equipment, supplies, etc.

In-kind GiftsEach year, in-kind donations of equipment and services assist in enhancing the educational experiences of students at WCTC. In-kind giving is a unique and meaningful way to support the educational advancement of students and utilizes items that may have concluded their usefulness for business. In-kind donations can include: new products and inventory, production equipment, buildings, land, raw materials, machinery and tooling, office furniture and equipment, heavy equipment, vehicles, and services.

Memorial and Honorary GiftsMany donors wish to give a gift in memory of or in honor of a loved one or special friend.

Planned GiftsA legacy or planned gift will benefit students for years to come. Estate planning professionals and WCTC Foundation staff can help determine the most effective way to design a legacy gift. This type of gift can be accomplished through a number of ways: • Wills • Charitable Remainder Trusts • Charitable Lead Trusts • Charitable and Deferred Gift Annuities • Gift of Life Insurance

Special Bequests A charitable bequest offers a way to support WCTC in a continued legacy. Memorial gifts and charitable bequests are lasting methods of supporting and enhancing the quality of education for students. Making a charitable bequest is not only a sign of good stewardship, it is also a mark of thoughtful estate planning, and the bequest becomes an enduring gift to technical education and its students.

If you are interested in any of these

opportunities, please contact the

WCTC Foundation at 262.691.5202.

Matching Gift StatementIf you work for a company that matches its employees’ gifts, please be sure to obtain a matching gift form from your human resources office and return it to the WCTC Foundation.

All donations to the WCTC Foundation, a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization, are tax deductible as charitable contributions.

To donate a gift online, visit www.wctc.edu/foundation.

Helen Maree Ring passed away in the fall of 2015 but her love of baking will live on through a new scholarship at WCTC. A resident of Elm Grove, then Brookfield, WI for over 60 years she enjoyed baking for her family, friends and community as much as she enjoyed volunteering.

The Helen Maree Ring Scholarship will assist current WCTC students with tuition and supplies for a baking class each semester within the Baking and Pastry Management certificate or degree programs. Although Helen never attended WCTC, she volunteered throughout the Waukesha County area and would take pride in helping someone here share her passion.

Helen graduated with a bachelor’s degree in Home Economics and Chemistry from Iowa State University where she met her husband James H. Ring. After marrying in 1947 they moved to Elm Grove a few short years later.

Helen loved to bake and worked for the Wisconsin Electric Power Company as a food demonstrator teaching youth classes, as well as contributing to the classic WEP Christmas Cookie Books.

Her mouthwatering breads, Sour Cream Twists and Raisin Oatmeal

Cookies were favorites of her five children and later four grandchildren. Helen enjoyed the science and process of transforming ingredients into something golden and perfect, almost as much as she enjoyed sharing her treats with others. It was common to find her homemade breads, muffins or cookies at community events, church functions and breakrooms where she volunteered.

Helen was an active volunteer in the Elmbrook community. She was a charter member of the Elm Grove Women’s Club, and a founding member of the Brookfield Congregational Church. She volunteered for the Children’s Hospital of Wisconsin for 18 years and volunteered 29 years at University Lake School.

For a woman whose commercial mixer represented one of her favorite possessions, a scholarship enabling another person to learn and enhance their baking skills seems a fitting tribute.

Her family hopes the students who benefit from the scholarship feel the emotional draw that baking has to sweetening the lives of others.

Donor Wall Created for the Integrated Manufacturing CenterThe Integrated Manufacturing Center (IMC) is dedicated in grateful tribute to the corporations, individuals, foundations, community and civic organizations, and other friends of the College, for providing the philanthropic support to building this structure and advance the educational journey of our students.

The unique recognition wall was designed and constructed by WCTC students, faculty and staff of WCTC’s School of Applied Technology.

The cherry wood background and trim for the wall was prepared through the College’s Carpentry Program, guided by instructors Dan Erdman and Mark Montgomery, along with Mark’s wife, Roberta. The individual gears were created through WCTC’s Mechanical Design Technology Program, guided by Instructors, Charles Kis and Dan Rusch.

Each gear was painted by the Auto Collision Repair and Refinishing students guided by WCTC instructor Ralph Pogorzelski. Mike Shiels, Dean of the School of Applied Technologies and a member of the WCTC Foundation Board, provided the encouragement for this concept and its implementation.

The Shawn Willett Memorial ScholarshipThe Shawn Willett Memorial Scholarship Fund was established by Brad and Cathy Willett, parents of Shawn. Shawn was only 24 years old when he passed away. At the time of Shawn’s death, he was a student at WCTC and was enrolled in the college’s Criminal Justice program.

Shawn’s true passion was cars, and he belonged to several car clubs. In August of 2016, a Car-Truck-Bike Show was held in his memory. Proceeds of this event were used to benefit the Shawn Willett Memorial Scholarship. This very special scholarship will assist future students studying in the law enforcement field at WCTC.

The Continuing Legacy of Delores JeuckDuring Mrs. Delores Jeuck’s 83 years of life, she kept a low profile. But after her death, she is making a huge impact on student’s lives at WCTC. Mrs. Jeuck, who passed away in November 2014, was a resident of Waukesha and a retired postmistress from North Prairie.

She deeply believed in charities that support the Waukesha area. Because of this, Mrs. Jeuck left a substantial estate that was divided among six Waukesha non-profit organizations. The WCTC Foundation was named as a recipient and received a gift of over $250,000.

Vicky Hekkers, niece of Delores, talked about her aunt’s strong respect for nurses and members of the police department. Mrs. Jeuck’s legacy will continue to assist students enrolled in WCTC’s Nursing program, as well as the College’s Criminal Justice Studies program, through scholarships, academic program support and equipment.

The WCTC Foundation is honored and proud to be the steward of these very special scholarships.
