_____________________________On The Cover______________________________Progress continues at the Marseilles Dam during the month of December. With the weather being so nice through the month of December, we were able to capture this shot from Illini Park of the crane working on the dam.
Welcome to another new year! We are very proud to be providing this community magazine to Marseilles since our first issue was published in May 2011. This was when we launched our IPTV service called digMAX which provides television, internet and voice services to the businesses and residents of Metamora, Germantown Hills, Marseilles and Washington. IPTV is the latest technology in broadcast television services. It o p e r a t e s using internet protocol technology but is a separate private video network that was built from the ground up by MTCO.
Many of you are already familiar with MTCO Communications, but we would like to share a little history on this family owned and operated company. In 1945, Ray Rauh moved his family to Metamora when he purchased the Metamora Telephone Company. Over the years, family members have worked and managed the business into a telecommunications company offering top quality service backed by highly trained and motivated employees.
In 1984, Marseilles Telephone Company was purchased as a way to help keep employees working during the recession the economy was
facing then. It proved to be a great addition to the company, and also aided the company into becoming a managing partner in Illinois Valley Cellular. MTCO Communications was formed in 1995 offering long distance services and internet to the Metamora, Germantown Hills, and Marseilles communities. MTCO was the first company to bring internet to these communities, and the first to bring high speed internet, keeping our towns in
the technology forefront in communications.
In 2013, MTCO was awarded a contract to serve the City
of Washington with a 100% fiber optic network. We now offer fiber
service to customers in Washington in many areas, and our coverage area is expanding daily.
Contact our office at (815) 795-5161 to get connected with MTCO, or to get more information about our services from one of our friendly local customer service representatives.
We thank everyone for their continued support of Connected Magazine and MTCO services, and we look forward to providing your Internet, TV, and telephone services for many more years to come!
Happy New Year!

FAA Announces Drone Registration RuleThe U.S. Department of Transportation’s Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) announced a streamlined and user-friendly web-based aircraft registration process for owners of small unmanned aircraft (UAS) weighing more than 0.55 pounds (250 grams) and less than 55 pounds (approx. 25 kilograms) including payloads such as on-board cameras. Registration is a statutory requirement that applies to all aircraft. Under this rule, any owner of a small UAS who has previously operated an unmanned aircraft exclusively as a model aircraft prior to December 21, 2015, must register no later than February 19, 2016. Owners of any other UAS purchased for use as a model aircraft after December 21, 2015 must register before the first flight outdoors. Owners may register through a web-based system at www.faa.gov/uas/registration.

Approach with CautionA few reminders to always be cautious to protect yourself from scam artists and phishing attacks. Here are a couple of scams local residents have recently encountered:
• Never participate in ads or paid offers that pop up on your computer screen asking you to participate in polls or surveys. Here is a sample of a fraudulent pop up that uses legitimate company names such as MTCO:
This scam may steal personal information and if you offer your credit card number it may be stolen or you will receive a much larger charge for an item they are promising.
Be assured that MTCO never approaches customers with offers or pop up surveys like this. It is always better to be safe and delete the message. If you question if something is from MTCO, just give MTCO a call at 800-859-6826 to verify its legitimacy.
• In a recent twist, scam artists are using the phone to try to break into your computer. They claim to be a computer tech associated with well-known companies like Microsoft. They say they have detected viruses or malware on your computer and trick you into giving them remote access to your computer or paying for software you don’t need.
