The three coloring contest winners are Nevaeh (age bracket of 3-4 years old), Natalie (5-7), and Marissa (8-10). The contest kicked off at the Illinois Valley Cellular/digiMAX sponsored Movie Night in the Park at Knudson Park on June 25th ending on Friday, June 29th. Thank you to all of the kids who participated in the contest.

Windows 8Computers running on the next version of Microsoft’s operating system, Windows 8, will go on sale in October. This release date means manufacturers will have their hands on Windows 8 at the beginning of August so they can get their products ready.

Released as part of the TCM Vault Collection, the Universal Rarities: Films of the 1930s set features some of the biggest stars of the era, including W.C. Fields in Million Dollar Legs (1932), Mae West in Belle of the Nineties (1934), Jack Benny in Artists & Models (1937) and Gary Cooper and George Raft in Souls at Sea (1937).

Low Cost Vaccination Clinic For Dogs And CatsThe No Animal Left Behind NFP is located north of Marseilles (LaSalle County), and their goal is to help the stray animal problem in LaSalle County and improve the well-being of as many cats and dogs as possible. Volunteers coordinate these events, and local businesses help to support them. They offer a service to the public, and cats and dogs from all counties are welcome at their clinics.

The clinics are offered one day per month, and for the month of August the clinic will be held August 12, 2012 from 9:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. The cost for 1 year Rabies is $15, 3 year Rabies is $30. The profit from the Vaccination Clinics is used to financially support spay/neuter of cats and dogs for senior citizens and low income individuals. They are always looking for volunteers, donations, and support of any fashion. For more information or questions you can reach them at 815-795-3859.

Rabies Vaccination Compliance CheckSince July 9, 2012 the Marseilles Police Department in cooperation with the LaSalle County Animal Control have been conducting a city wide rabies vaccination compliance check. The compliance check will continue until completion. Pet owners are urged to be up to date on your pet’s vaccinations. Please have your pet’s vaccination records available. You may attach your vaccination records to your door making them visible by animal control if you will be unavailable. Pet owners who are not current with pet vaccinations will receive a citation from LaSalle County Animal Control. If you have questions, please feel free to contact the Marseilles Police or LaSalle County Animal Control.

Market in The ParkThe Marseilles Market in The Park is entering the harvest time of the year this month. Be sure to stop by and see what fresh vegetables, fruits, and homemade baked goods are offered. It runs every Wednesday from Noon until 5:00 p.m. in Knudson Park.

America’s Night Out Against CrimeThe Marseilles Police Association will again be hosting the National Night Out on Tuesday, August 7, 2012 from 6:00 p.m. - 10:00 p.m. at Knudson Park.

Come enjoy a cook out, music, games, balloons, a Fire Department demonstration, popcorn, door prizes, face painting and more. This year’s event will also include a performance from “Those Funny Little People,” which is a great family oriented performance that children and adults will both like.

National Night Out is a nationwide event that is hosted by thousands of communities throughout the U.S. to send a message out to criminals that we will not put up with crime in our community.

Marseilles Swimming Pool HoursThe Marseilles Swimming Pool begins reduced “back-to-school” hours on August 15, 2012. The pool will be open for adult swim from 10:00 a.m. until Noon, and then it will open again from 3:30 p.m. until 6:00 p.m. to the general public.

Last Sunday Of The Month Means “All You Can Eat Pancakes”Every month the VFW and the American Legion team up to bring you “All You Can Eat Pancakes”. This month the pancakes will be served on August 26, 2012 at the Marseilles American Legion Hall, 571 Rutland Street, from 8:00 a.m. until 12 noon.
