Happy New Year!!

I Am the New Year Bible Illustrator

I am the new year. I am an unspoiled page in your book of time.

I am your next chance at the art of living. I am your opportunity to practice what you have learned about life

during the last twelve months.

All that you sought and didn’t find is hidden in me, waiting for you to search it but with more determination.

All the good that you tried for and didn’t achieve is mine to grant when

you have fewer conflicting desires.

All that you dreamed but didn’t dare to do, all that you hoped but did not will, all the faith that you claimed but did not have—these slumber

lightly, waiting to be awakened by the touch of a strong purpose.

I am your opportunity to renew your allegiance to Him who said, "Behold, I make all things new."

Coming Soon on Thursdays!!

A small group discipleship training bible study for women only.

Free To Forgive

This bible study examines five popular myths about forgiveness and helps free believers from

their fallacy by combining biblical insights with real-life situations. This study will help the

believer understand the how, why, and even the when of forgiveness.

Course Objective:

Learn how to forgive those who never say “I’m sorry”,

Understand why forgiveness does not always result in a reconciliation,

Learn how to forgive “unforgivable” offenses, and

Learn what to do when painful memories won’t go away. 3

Wow!, I can’t believe that it has been a year already. Excited, humbled, and grateful are just a few words that

describe how I am feeling. Words really can’t express the amount of excitement that I have about the future of

Hillcrest. I am excited because I’m part of a group of believers that are going to see God do some incredible

things. We are going to see people’s lives that have been wrecked by sin put back together. I’m blessed to be part

of a church that has been making an impact on people’s lives for the past 50 plus years and is going to make an

even greater impact in the future.

I am also feeling very humbled. I’m humbled by the fact that God is allowing us to be part of His work. We don’t

deserve to be part of it, but because of God’s mercy and grace He has allowed us to be partakers of His kingdom

work. I am also humbled by you because Hillcrest is an extraordinary group of people, and God has allowed us to

be a part of this group for the past year, and you have treated us so well. It never ceases to amaze me how God

uses broken people to share His message to the world.

I am grateful. Hillcrest has been so wonderful to me and my family. You all have loved us as one of your own,

and we are still blown away by the love and support you all have poured out upon us. We thank God daily for you

and are asking God to pour out His blessings upon you.

Please begin praying and asking God to show you what part He wants you to play in helping Hillcrest advance the

gospel into people’s lives. Every person that has a personal relationship with Jesus Christ is called to make a

kingdom difference in this world. We are all called to be obedient to the Great Commission of Jesus Christ. Your

part is an important one and you are uniquely gifted to minister to those around you in the community in which

you live.

I’ve often heard it said that “Home Is Where the Heart Is,” and I believe it. The moment we walked in the door on

January 1st we knew that we were home. We knew in our hearts that we were exactly where God had called us to

be. We are ready to be home. We look forward to continuing worshiping with you on a weekly basis and getting

to know you more. It is an honor to be your pastor.

DO YOU HAVE A PERSONAL RELATIONSHIP WITH JESUS CHRIST?

If you believe in your heart that Jesus Is Lord, the

Christ, the Savior, the Son of the Living God, and you

are willing to turn from sin to God, then receive Jesus

Christ now by faith and pray this prayer:

“Oh, God, I know I am a sinner. I believe Jesus died on the cross for me. I believe His shed blood paid the price for my sin, and that His death, burial, and resurrection were all for me. I now receive Him as my personal Savior and Lord. Thank you for forgiving me of my sins and for the gifts of salvation and eternal life. In Jesus’ name I pray, amen.” Take God at His Word and claim His gift of salvation.

Remember, it’s God who does the saving—not your

good works, not your family pedigree, and not your

church. Believe and you will be saved.

Greetings to you from the staff of the Hillcrest

Herald! It is our prayer that as you entered the year

2014, you embraced it, expecting and open to receive

all of the blessings that God has in store for you!

This year is a year of great excitement for the

Communications Ministry. We are celebrating our

first newsletter publication. We hope the newsletter

will be a blessing to you.

As we begin our first year, we will publish the

newsletter on a quarterly issue and prayerfully move

to a monthly issue at a later time. Therefore, you will

only receive the newsletter four times per year—

January, April, July, and October. We are putting

processes in place that we hope will enhance our line

of communication with you rather than diminish it.

We will inform you of these as they become

available.

If you have access to the internet, we encourage you

to add the church web-site to your favorites or make

us your homepage (www.hbcmd.org) and check it

regularly. This will be one method we use to promote

the church’s ministry and make other pertinent

announcements. The quarterly issue of the Hillcrest

Herald will be posted on the church website as well.

If you would like to submit information to be

included in the newsletter, you may do so by emailing

[email protected] (subject line

Attn: Newsletter) or by submitting a hard copy to

the church office. Let us hear from you! The deadline

is the first Sunday of the month preceding the month

of issue. Additionally, we look forward to receiving

feedback from our readers on how we can make the

newsletter an even better publication.

We’re always looking for additional members to join

us. If you would like to be a part of the newsletter,

please contact the church office.

Look for us again in April 2014!

CHURCH HUMOR

Dear God,

Please take care of Daddy and Mommy

and my sister and my brother and me.

And please take care of yourself, God. If

anything happens to you, we’re gonna be

in a big mess.

Page 9: Happy New Year!! - Clover Sitesstorage.cloversites.com/lifefellowship/documents/HBC Newsletter _FINAL... · Dallas Cowboys (football) and Chicago Bulls (basketball) What advice would

The book-at-a-time Bible reading plan provides two readings for each day. The first reading alternates

between Old and New Testament books, giving you three or four chapters a day. The Gospels are spread

throughout the year. The second reading takes you through a chapter or so of the wisdom literature and

Isaiah. Combined, these readings will take you through the entire Bible in one year.

To prevent the frustration of falling behind and to provide some reflection time, each month consists of

only 25 readings. You’ll have several days each month to meditate more deeply on something that was

significant to you in the past week, to catch up on missed readings, or to revisit favorite passages.
