What is Geo-Caching?Geocaching is a real-world, outdoor treasure hunting game using GPS-enabled devices. Participants navigate to a speci� c set of GPS coordinates and then attempt to � nd the geocache (container) hidden at that location. (Source: geocaching.com).

Piecing Together the Past is a program developed by Lackawanna Heritage Valley National and State Heritage Area and Steamtown National Historic Site (NHS) that takes participants on a geo-caching hunt of historic sites in Scranton. Caches containing puzzle pieces are hidden at each site. Once all 12 pieces are collected, geo-cachers may

show their assembled puzzle to o� cials at Steamtown NHS toredeem their prize. A self-guided tour, you can embark on your historic geo-caching adventure at your own pace!

Let’s Get Started!1. Your historic hunt begins at Steamtown NHS where you

can pick up an o� cial Piecing Together the Past starterpack. Hint: the starter pack includes an empty puzzle traythat you will need later!

2. Visit geocaching.com for participating site coordinates.

3. Explore all 12 participating historic sitesand search for corresponding puzzlepieces for each site.

4. When you’ve collected all 12 pieces, assemble your puzzle and bring it toSteamtown NHS to collect your prize!
